CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Writers Reveal Why They Cut 'The Wasp' From The Movie

Kevin Feige has previously revealed that The Wasp was at one point going to be in Captain America: Civil War, but now the movie's screenwriters have shed some light on why she was ultimately cut.

Ant-Man ended with the reveal that Hope Van Dyne will soon be suiting up as The Wasp, and while we now know that will be happening in Ant-Man and The Wasp, she could have appeared in Captain America: Civil War! Instead, Scott Lang will be by his lonesome as he joins #TeamCap, but screenwriters Christopher Markus and Marcus McFeely have now shed some light on how Evangeline Lily could have factored into the movie. "You know, almost everybody made it in," the former tells Collider. "There was a period where we talked about bringing Wasp in. There was actually a draft Wasp was in because she was so almost on the edge of being in Ant-Man, but then you’re taking something awesome out of the Ant-Man team’s quiver if it’s like, “Well, we’re doing her!” Plus she had a similar skill set, so it’s like “Well, maybe we just isolate it to Scott."

Of course, with Scott about to take on his Giant-Man persona, that should be more than enough for the time being! It would have been nice to get an early look at The Wasp though, but McFeely went on to explain why she didn't necesarily fit into Captain America: Civil War. "When you see the movie, you see that Scott is his own comic relief so it would change that a little bit. They would be this pair. Everybody else we would talk about them and then they’d go away, but we got most everybody back."  That makes sense, and it now seems as if this is definitely one surprise cameo we should cross off the list. Even so, our first proper look at The Wasp can't get here soon enough...

Hope really should have suited up tbh

@WinterOstritch - If they had sacked up and worked her into Act 3 of Ant-Man she probably would have, but I have to give them credit for making sure she gets a whole movie of screentime to make her proper debut.

Really cool, glad they didn't put it in just for the sake of more characters.....wouldn't want it to feel forced. Looking forward to Hope and Scott in Antman 2, see that team up dynamic should be really fun.

@Menks123 - yea it would def feel forced. They can just reveal her in Ant Man 2. That way she can shine!

@TheSnyder - Exactly.....she deserves a very good intro and a lot or screen time building chemistry with Rudd before an ensemble film imo.

I wasn't expecting her to show up in this one, but it would've been cool for sure.

That's a darn shame, but there's always Infinity War.

Hawkeye and Ant-man are my two most anticipated characters in Civil War, can't wait to see what the Russos came up with

@Mick808 - I can't wait for the "Antman on the arrow", but I was thinking about the physics of this... would it be like trying to shoot an arrow witht the weight of a fully-grow man on the end of it? His size changes, but I don't think his weight does, right?

@TomSolo - Are you saying the winged ants he rode on in his movie were capable of carrying a full size man? I don't remember seeing one of em grab someone by the shirt collar and carry them off lol why would we need Ant Man if that was possible?

@Hadoken - That's also a good point. Trust me, I'm fine with saying whatever when it comes to comic book science. And I am drooling with anticipation until I get to see the Antman arrow shot. However, I was just thinking about the physics anyway. So when he punches someone when he is small, it has a big impact because he retains his mass, or else it would be like getting punched by a fly. So if that is true, Hawkeye should feel like he has a full grown man on his arrow when he shoots it, and it should go about 2 feet. Just saying.

@TomSolo - I know what your saying and I think it's more about applying the "science" to where it's best suited and has a purpose. He has his strength like if he were a grown man but keeps his weight proportional to his size and that's that. It gets complicated to make the power seem useful and I imagine harder to write fun things to do with it if you apply logical limitations like that. Yellowjacket wouldn't hang from the bug zapper he'd rip it down, them fighting atop a toy train set couldn't happen, running on a gun barrel is out. Fun stuff they couldn't do if they let him weigh the same regardless of size. The arrow is gonna happen,it's gonna be way more comfortable for Hawkeye than it will be for antman which is gonna be hilarious and We're ALL GONNA DROOL at that sight.

I figure he and daddy Hank are working on the Wasp suit and it is not yet ready.

How can you have a civil war with only 10 people? Captain America The Bar Fight more like it.

@Tempestjohn - Much better than the comics. At least they'll get to explore everyone's motivations, instead of just having a million guys on each side, with no explanations as to why they picked that side.

Ant-Man's the part of this movie I'm most looking forward to. Totally get why they didn't put her in it, give her enough time in the sequel so it's not rushed.
