Hollywood Destroys Captain America

It looks like Hollywood is trying to destroy another comic book character.

Next summer, Captain America, a classic comic book character dating back to the 1940's, will have a new Hollywood film. But it might be a little different than you'd expect. Find out what the film's director Joe Johnston, said about this superhero. This character may not be as patriotic as he may seem. Lucy Kafanov RT producer joins Alyona to discuss what this says about where American pride has gone. Kafanov explains how the director is downplaying the American angle.

I think what he means is that it is being 'downplayed' so that audiences from other nations could relate to him. The fact that he is a good person should at least be enough for every fan. He is just a person who is trying to protect his country, a feeling that people from various nations could relate to whether you are American, English, French, etc.

This is hilarious. I mean REALLY hilarious. Watching two bimbos criticize a comic character who they probably only just learned about when they heard of the movie.
It's also hilarious seeing that they take Johnston's comment SOOOO literally. Of course he's still patriotic. What did they want? Some over conservative freak that runs around screaming "AMERICA AMERICA FRICK YEA!!!". No. Captain America's never been that kind of guy. He's always been and always will be a freedom fighter. He will always fight for what his country stands for, but not always his country.
If you've read more then five Captain America comics, then you would know that.

Excuse me ladies, would you please STFU about stuff you don't know anything about. Good lord!
Jingoism- "Extreme nationalism characterized especially by a belligerent foreign policy; chauvinistic patriotism"
Johnston basically said that Cap is not an obnoxious, 'my country is so much better than your's' dickhead. The movie isn't going to be released just in the US. You can't make a movie shoving America in everyone's face because no one outside of the US will relate to it. Cap will be patriotic. He serving his country and representing the dream that he believes it stands for. You make him relatable to everyone by playing up more that this is a good guy. It's kind of like Superman and the whole "Truth, Justice, and The America Way" thing. Superman is someone I think represent integrity, morality and so many positive ideals. To say that those are just things that are American is BS. He's a world hero. Same with Cap. I'm hoping that the movie can show people this and make them understand so these two ladies think to themselves "Man, I'm a stupid b!tch."

You cannot downplay who and what Cap stands for. And there is nothing wrong with American exceptionalism. This is still a great country. We still lead the world. We have to remind ourselves that Vietnam wasn't popular either. I'm not saying that we should have been there nor the current battles, but I am saying that we are still a great nation that when the chips are down: the rest of the world asks for our help. It is not reactionary to respond that the left in Hollywood wants to downplay this just to sell tickets amidst forwarding its own agenda. Remember they took "American way" out of the last Superman movie. It's truly disgusting. Is he going to 'Singer' Captain America and try to make him Jesus, too? Not sure I'm going to see it now.
Ryden
Ryden - 7/24/2010, 10:33 PM
@MarvelGuy- Sorry to dissapoint you but America isn't the rest of the worlds "leader" as you put it,America just seems to try and get involved with everything. And are you seriously blaming "the left"...oh please...for starters if Captain America was a right-wing flag-waving, shove democracy down your throat type of character character then no-one outside of Bill O'Reilly, Sarah Palin and yourself would be interested in him. And what has Vietnam got to do with Cap? Didn't you LOSE that war?

Also, Superman is an alien..why the [frick] should he say "American Way"

[frick] the American way, it's all just imperisalistic captililst garbage.

What director johnston meant is that Cap isnt initially america f**k yeah! but a regular guy serving his country.

I'm an American but Captain America should not
be solely fighting for America! He has the name
CAPTAIN AMERICA but he is a freedom-fighter for
the whole world! It wasn't just America fighting
in WWII. It was the whole world against a
goosestepping Tyrant! Cap just happens to be from America!

They are not downplaying America in the movie they
are UP-playing the world! Cap is part of the
AVENGERS which is the super-protectors of the whole
world from super-dangerous antagonists!

These bitches are ridiculous!!!!!!!!!!
Ryden
Ryden - 7/24/2010, 11:10 PM
@mileena- ;)

@barryallen- Exactly, and that'swhat makes Cap so interesting!
Macksimus
Macksimus - 7/24/2010, 11:23 PM

Johnson says he just wants Cap to be a "good person" more than anything. Well, being a good person is all relative to your beliefs. For instance, the Germans, who beat and stole from the Jews during WWII, were considered "good" people in Germany. Cap is a "good" person because of what he believes in. He believes in the United States Constitution's core values: liberty, democracy, equality, and justice. During WWII and before, those things were practically nonexistent. The reason why people all over the world love Cap is because of the fact that he embodies all of those core American values.

The United States Constitution is not just an American Symbol. It is an international symbol of hope. Like wise, Captain America is an American symbol...and also an international symbol of hope.

I don't want Cap to love America just because he fights on her side or was born there. I want him to understand what our country really stands for and what it really means to the world. If Joe can do that and keep the movie free of any political agenda, I will be very satisfied.

Ryden
Ryden - 7/24/2010, 11:40 PM
@gambitfreak- [frick] RIGHT off racist, don't be spreading that "white power" crap around here man.

@Pure Justice- Nice to meet you to. I'm Scottish, so yeah technically British althoug I'd rather not consider myself British. Sorry butyou sound like a complete and utter moron, like the vast majority of right-wing Americans...and for the record America DID NOT invent democracy, you seem to have deluded yourself of this. It was invented by Ancient Greek Philosophers and was utilised by Britain long before America.

And explain to me how America has been the leader of the free world when the rest of the world in all its entirity HATES USA with a passion.

America is a [frick]ing joke at the moment, slowly losing its world superpower to China or Korea...think about it, in the history of mankind America will have been the shortest country to have ever been a superpower.

But you know what you're just too stupid to realise your counries obvious flaws.

BarryAllen2121
BarryAllen2121 - 7/24/2010, 11:40 PM
@Macksimus so if cap is being good in his own views would that mean he would be enforcing jim crowe laws? THAT RACIST! LOL
Macksimus
Macksimus - 7/24/2010, 11:40 PM
@BarryAllen2121

Excuse me sir, but it was because of the fact that we live in America and we have the constitution that we have that we no longer have laws like "Jim Crowe."

Be thankful for that.

@Ryden Why is it when let's say Sirprize@ put's a funny video up like Ninja Say What? Everyone laughs cause it's funny, but when Some says for instance White power, then it's OMG! Racist, come on it's not racist just funny relax... I don't wanna argue about racism because we both know that's a fight neither one of us can win. Sorry if i offended you in any way. : (

@Barry second! Amazing what can trigger a humans brain to go berserk!
Ryden
Ryden - 7/25/2010, 12:14 AM
@gambitfreak- Because there's a big difference between saying "Ninja Say What?" And "White Power" it's not very funny it's just racist.

@Pure Justice- Ahhh dumb patriot and its sweet ignorance. What has my country contibuted? The telephone and the television and also anaesthetics for starters. And also Haloween, something that you Americans seem to think you have invented. Not to mention a modern day achievment of the finest cancer research in Europe. Why is it that some Americans think all Scottish people wear kilts? No-one wears kilts here. That's like me saying every American is fat and is an inbred hillbilly, I mean you probably are don't get me wrong but most Americans aren't.
