Based on a few hints - and admittedly, a healthy does of speculation - we recently reported that Marvel may have been looking at Emily Carmichael to take the reigns of their Captain Marvel adaptation, and now a new rumor suggests the studio might have their eye on another independent director.

According to We Got This Covered's sources, "a private meeting was held last week between Marvel representatives and Elizabeth Wood". Wood's debut feature, White Girl, garnered acclaim when it screened at Sundance in February, and was nominated for the Grand Jury Prize.

Like the Carmichael rumor, don't read too much into this for now, but given everything we've heard so far it does seem like Marvel is going after an up-and-coming director to helm this movie, so Wood definitely fits the bill.

It would continue the trend of picking lesser known directors. Makes sense.

@LEVITIKUZ - I think that was a reference to Jon Watts directing Spider-Man and the Russo brothers.

@LEVITIKUZ - Most of Marvel's directors are indie director, up and coming directors, or directors who aren't well known. There are a few exceptions like Kevin Braughn, Edgar Wright, Joe Johnson, and Cooler, but they are rare.

@PantherKing - It's clear they're speccing out who they want directing and starring, so we should have an announcement soonish.

I'm guessing once they confirm that and the recent Black Panther casting they'll have a standalone event like they did for the Phase 3 announcement. Maybe drop some more Dr. Strange footage and a first look at Guardians Vol. 2

@CapnSquintyEyes - I guess so or they might go big at the next D23

@SlyASpiE - Possible, but that's not until July 2017 which is after the release of Strange, Spidey, and Guardians. Feige already said to expect Captain Marvel announcements before the end of the summer so I figured that would be the time to do a big push for all these new properties.

@CapnSquintyEyes - Oh yeah I was forgetting that D23 is every other year, probably at comic con then, unless as you say they hold their own show hopefully announcing some of phase 4 fingers crossed
