RUMOR: Has CAPTAIN MARVEL Found A Director In Indie Filmmaker Emily Carmichael?

Do we now know who'll helm the Captain Marvel movie? Nothing too solid here, but at the very least we have a couple of intriguing coincidences that are worth speculating upon...

A few weeks ago, The Wrap's Jeff Sneider dropped a few interesting hints about the director (or one of 'em, anyway) he's heard is being lined up to helm the Captain Marvel movie, and the actress being eyed for the Carol Danvers role. According to him, the star is someone we've heard rumored in the past, and the director shares the same first name.

There have been several actresses linked to this character, but as far as we know, only Emily Blunt has ever been mentioned by anything even close to a reliable source, so we put our speculation hats on.

One of the directors we came up with was indie filmmaker and animator Emily Carmichael, who wrote, directed, and animated the Penny Arcade web series and has also written and directed several live-action short films that have screened in competition at Sundance, Tribeca, SXSW, and Slamdance. Then today, we were given a heads up that Captain Marvel screenwriter Nicole Perlman had followed Carmichael on Twitter.

Still no biggie, right? But then there's this:

I look a way

The original caption accompanying this image stated "on my way to a Disney meeting", before being changed. Again, far from irrefutable evidence that Carmichael is going to direct Captain Marvel, but definitely something worth keeping an eye on.

What do you guys think?

@Tuuralihn - I really want her :(

not a fan of Emily Blunt as Captain Marvel, she's not the best for the role lookwise and I preffer a more unknown actress to breakout

Hey!!!!! Ive seen her; heard her speak. Saw her animated short RPG OKC, at the Philly film festival 3 years back.

Very inventive

Pretty cool short. I HOPE, IF this is true, she's right for the job. I like that Marvel fosters indie filmmaking talent. It's wonderful. I trust Marvel and the talent they bring in. With Phase 3, they've seemed to have learned from their past mistake and really matured as a studio.

"8 years in the cinematic universe game, how much have we learned? Grown from?"
Lol

Sounds good to me, if the Russos can make good movies so can she. When they said the Russos would direct TWS it was weird because they did not seemed qualified whatsoever especially since they directed You,me and Dupree

@CaptainAmerica31 - The Russos were (and I guess still are) among the highest sought after pilot directors working in TV. Just because you didn't like one Owen Wilson vehicle doesn't mean that they were some unheard-of commodity.

@Spock0Clock - I'm not saying they were unknown im saying they didn't strike me as action directors

@CaptainAmerica31 - I guess you never saw the paintball episodes of Community. Maybe you want to check them out, if the Russos have pleasantly surprised you in the past :)

@TheFamousJMC - I really liked community but that still doesn't mean at the time they were qualified action directors in our eyes

@CaptainAmerica31 - I'm kind of interested in what you think makes people qualified. Are people only qualified to do what they have done previously? And how did they manage to do it the first time if they weren't qualified?

So.... there's obviously a way to see potential in abstract ways right? The Russos were OBVIOUSLY QUALIFIED. End of story.

@CaptainAmerica31 - I'll tell you who was obviously not qualified...

Marc Webb's previous film (50) days of summer was a steaming pile of shit.... it was a tonal and narrative mess, and I could see from miles away that he did not have the tools to make any kind of film much less a follow-up to a loved franchise, where Sam Raimi made two perfect instalments out of three.

@TheFamousJMC - yes the Russos are qualified, I never said they weren't. My original comment was speaking to the fact that someone on here asked if she was qualified to direct Captain Marvel, so I harkened back to 2013 when they announced The Russos were going to direct TWS. People including myself didn't think they were qualified, clearly they were. Moral of the story people on this site don't mean shit.

Sorry you get so riled up by a comment

@TheFamousJMC - someone is qualified in my eyes if they've made a good movie before. Simple as that
