DC Rebirth #1 featured the shocking reveal that Watchmen's Dr. Manhattan is responsible for stealing a decade's worth of history from the DC Universe and possibly creating that world in the first place. However, will some familiar faces from the classic Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons series join him? While it's possible that these are the original versions of the rest of the team (particularly in the case of Ozymandias), chances are that Dr. Manhattan could have inadvertently recreated his old friends in very different roles, and based on some of the evidence and theories you'll find below, it seems as if writer Geoff Johns may have been sewing the seeds for a reveal like that for quite some time now...
Ozymandias - This mysterious hooded character first appeared in Geoff Johns' short-lived Superman run and could be seen monitoring the Man of Steel and claiming to have played some sort of role in the hero's training. However, Clark never had a mentor as far as we're aware, and many fans at the time jokingly pointed out that his logo resembled the Nostalgia Perfume one from Watchmen.
In DC Rebirth, this mysterious blue eyed figure introduced himself to the pre-New 52 Superman as "Mr. Oz", making it clear that he's not what he thinks (a Superman from another world). Could it be that Dr. Manhattan attempted to wipe the hero from reality, only for Ozymandias to create and train a new Superman to take his place? The New 52 version is now dead, and we know from Watchmen that Adrian Veidt has some experience with creating biological beings. Remember that squid?
Rorschach - Destroyed by Dr. Manhattan at the end of Watchmen, speculation is running rampant that this faceless redhead could be a version of the violent vigilante, and there's definitely a resemblance.
The Comedian - Another character who died during the events of Watchmen, is it possible that The Comedian is one of the three Jokers who have haunted Batman over the years? Eddie Blake is a complete psychopath, so it's a role that you can imagine him taking on easily enough in the DC Universe. Which of the them he could be is anyone's guess, but I'd place money on the original.
Nite-Owl and Silk Spectre - A very popular theory currently doing the rounds is that the two mysterious vigilantes who will soon make their presence felt in Gotham City are Nite-Owl and Silk Spectre. There's once again a physical resemblance there, and as Watchmen's only true heroes in many ways, it makes sense that they might take on a similar role in the DC Universe, don't you think?
