Live-Action CLOAK AND DAGGER TV Series Coming To ABC's Freeform Network

Nope, this isn't John Ridley's mystery Marvel series! Instead, ABC has given the green light to a Cloak and Dagger TV series on Freeform, a network which usually creates content for a younger audience...

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is about to get even bigger with the addition of Marvel's Cloak and Dagger, a new live-action seres which has been given the green light and a straight to series order by ABC. The show will air on Freeform (the home of Shadowhunters), the network which was previously known as ABC Family before being rebranded to bring in younger viewers. This superhero love story - that's how it's described by Variety - will revolve around Tandy Bowen and Tyrone Johnson, and the official synopsis for the series states that, "The live-action interracial romance follows the duo, two teenagers from very different backgrounds, who find themselves burdened and awakened to newly acquired superpowers while falling in love — Tandy can emit light daggers and Tyrone has the ability to engulf others in darkness. They quickly learn they are better together than apart, but their feelings for each other make their already complicated world even more challenging."

Cloak and Dagger doesn't have a writer or cast just yet, but the hunt for the titular heroes is currently underway. It sounds like the plan for this one is to bring in the Young Adult audience, so chances are that it won't be to everyone's tastes! Still, there's plenty to choose from in terms of Marvel content on ABC as they also have Marvel's Most Wanted in the works along with John Ridley's mystery series and the currently on the air Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Agent Carter. Do you have any interest in a series revolving around Cloak and Dagger? As always, let us know your thoughts in the usual place.

Holy shit! That came out of nowhere.

@TheBritAvenger - While it isn't stated, I'm assuming this will be part of the MCU right? If it is, being on this Freeform network definitely makes me a little nervous. A lot of AOS's problems, particularly in the first season, was due to the prime time TV restrictions that come with being on network televisions. The show just had too much of that network TV family-oriented sitcomy cheese that was just a bit too heavy to be a part of the overall MCU. I will say that show has improved a ton on that front though. Regardless, I now sit here and ask myself how bad things could be on that front with now being on a pure outright family network if straight ABC is already bad enough in that category.

@Triggermv - I agree. They better not screw this up... or, well, maybe they will, I don't care much about Cloak and Dagger anyway, but it'd be a shame.

@Triggermv - well, they have a literal MCU sitcom in the form of Damage Control on the way, so it may be unavoidable that a "sitcomy" network show be part of the MCU eventually. But considering that the films, ABC and Netflix shows have had little impact on each other (or at least on the larger film narrative), I imagine it won't be hard to ignore any show you don't really care for.

freeform....is that the network that has that ridiculously bad tv show based on the Mortal Bones book series? I tuned in once to see the human guy put up his fists against vampires, i think, and say "come at me bro" in a weak nerd voice.

I promptly turned it off.

I've not read these comics, so a query to those who have - Does the comics of Cloak and Dagger fit a YA demographic?

@SpideySupes94 - Depends on which direction they go Cloak and Dagger first appeared in a Spiderman comic and they were both young adults by they can be very dark at times

@SuperbatSpider1003 - Oh, okay. So, this being on ABC freeform isn't going to mess with the overall tone of the source material?

@SpideySupes94 - Oh yeah it will. Addiction, drugs, killing? I mean the girls power is with daggers, that's like giving wolverine a Nickelodeon TV show, he's only gonna show his claws but never use em.. So, yeah.... Hoping I'm wrong tho..

@Hawkeye47 - You're indeed wrong my friend, the Mortal Instruments or whatever it's called show on Freeform actually had multiple deaths shown on screen that included someone getting thrown from a window and to her death and a sword being used to kill two other people (without the gore of course) but I don't think the show will be all that but we'll just have to wait and see.
