After the recent “Totally Awesome Hulk” reveal (Click Here) Marvel Comics came under fire from some loyal comic fans for a lack of creativity when it comes to creating new characters.

The latest news about Marvel’s Native American character Red Wolf getting his own ongoing series may help to soothe those burns.  Red Wolf’s first appearance was as “Talltrees” in "The Coming of Red Wolf!" published in Avengers #80 (cover-dated Sept. 1970).  Red Wolf was reintroduced in the current 1872 series.  The signs for a Red Wolf series were definitely foreshadowed as he was featured in Marvel’s All New, All Different teaser art.

According to Mashable. The series will be written by Nathan Edmondson and artist Dalibor Talajic, with Native American artist Jeffrey Veregge inking the covers.  The series is set to launch in December.  Think of Red Wolf being to New Mexico what Daredevil is to Hell’s Kitchen.

Veregge said,

"There's not a character like Red Wolf out there right now.  As a native, I’m really excited to see that he can do things, he can figure out things and stand with Captain America, and hold his own in this universe. That’s what’s awesome about it: You have all these characters of different nationalities and ethnicities, but it’s not all about their culture. It’s about them being a hero."

On the Red Wolf’s background or association with any specific tribe, Edmondson said, "Nobody should go to this looking as its historical.  He comes from another dimension, after all.  But, it's very important for us to approach it in as authentic a way as possible.”

On the character’s abilities, attitude, and personality, Edmondson said “Above all, he’s resourceful.”

"He’s kind of in a sense the Jason Bourne of the West, who can find a way out of any situation, or a way to use the resources of whatever room or position he may be in, he’s not a gunslinger, but he might use a gun if he has to. ... But beyond all that, he’s just a brawling, tough-as-nails fighter."

What do you think, are you going to pick up Red Wolf this December?  Sound off in the comments!
