The cast for Warcraft was announced back in December 2013,
Consisting of (left to right) Ben Foster, Daniel Wu, Paula Patton, Clancy Brown, Travis Fimmel, Toby Kebbel,
Robert Kazinsky and Dominic Cooper. (not featured above)
filming began on January 13, 2014 and ended on May 23, 2014. And here we are nearly
two months after and we still only know the character of one actor, and that is Ben Foster as Medivh.
I know many of you may not know much Warcraft lore but I'm here with some brief details on the casting and character info. We should know exactly who's who on July 26th, but until then, this is my best guess.
My predictions for the cast/character match-ups are as follows.
Travis Fimmel - Durotan
Travis Fimmel was one of the earliest actors in talks for a "lead role" in the film. Based on that and Duncan Jones stating that the films two chief characters are Durotan and Lothar. Of the two I'd put my money on Durotan for Fimmel.
Durotan was the heir apparent to Garad, chieftain of the Frostwolf clan, in the years prior to the First War.
Which is what the film will be covering.
Without giving any spoilers or ranting on too long the core trait of this character is that
of a burdened soul, one of the few sane minds on his planet of Draenor.
The Orc story line will be told from his prespective.
Robert Kazinsky - Anduin Lothar
Lothar grew up in the court of Azeroth as a childhood friend of both the Prince Llane Wrynn, and Medivh. The trio shared many adventures in the Azerothian wilderness in their youth. Upon coming of age, Lothar joined Stormwind's military, later knighted and arose quickly to the position of "Armsman of the Brotherhood of the Horse, eventually becoming the leader of Stormwind's armies.''
Toby Kebbel - Gul'dan
Little is known of Gul'dan's early history except that he was originally a member of the Shadowmoon clan, and showed extraordinary talent with working with the elemental powers of shamanism. Because of this, he was chosen as the honored apprentice to the elder shaman Ner'zhul, chieftain of the Shadowmoon Clan and spiritual leader of the orcs.
(On a related note - Just look at the portrait of Gul'dan... does it not kind of remind you of
Koba?)
Ben Foster - Medivh
Medivh had a happy childhood, primarily spent with friends Prince Llane Wrynn and Anduin Lothar.
Medivh's mother, Aegwynn, served as the Guardian of Tirisfal before him. Eight centuries before the coming of the orcs, she fought and seemingly defeated Sargeras.
(I leave this intentionally vague, too many potential spoilers.)
Dominic Cooper - Llane Wrynn
In 577, Llane reached to the Age of Ascension and was given the full title Prince of Azeroth. During the evening feast arranged to honor the young Prince, the great wizard Medivh, who had been absent from events of the world for years, interrupted, announcing his return to the world and giving an obsidian hourglass to Llane.
Clancy Brown - Ner'Zhul
Ner'zhul was the chieftain and elder shaman of the Shadowmoon Clan and one of the most popular figures in orcish society. He was admired, respected and venerated by all for his deep connection to the spirits, and was the closest thing the orcish race had to a single leader prior to the foundation of the Horde. However, deep within, Ner'zhul craved a power he did not have...
Paula Patton - Draka
The courageous warrior mate of Durotan, Draka was a firm believer in theFrostwolf clan's convictions of the old ways of honor and shamanism. She was the daughter of Kelkar by his mate Zuura, and the granddaughter of Rhakish.
Daniel Wu - The Prophet Velen
Velen has been the leader of the draenei people since their flight from their homeworld of Argus.
the draenei came into contact with the orcish clans, and began to trade with them; the relations with the orcs were cordial, but aloof and businesslike.
Every single one of those characters effect the story in some epic way. And there are dozens more in the lore.
(On another side note, this is my first go at an article, so be gentle.)
