BOX OFFICE: DEADPOOL Breaks Records As It Takes Aim At Massive $130 Million Weekend

Well, no one saw this coming! With initial estimates of a $55 million opening weekend, Deadpool is now exceeding expectations as it looks to earn a record breaking $130 million. Bring on the sequel!

February may just be the new July thanks to Deadpool as the R-Rated superhero movie is performing just as well as any huge 20th Century Fox or Marvel Studios' blockbuster. After a record setting $47.5 million on Friday, the Tim Miller helmed release looks set to take $117 million over three days and a total of $130 million for the long Valentine's Day/Presidents Day weekend. That places it among the top 10 comic book movie openings and is the biggets debut in history for an R-Rated film.

Early estimates pointed to Deadpool making $70 million if it was lucky, and it was only last night that analysts started predicting a total of $90 million. It's now far exceeded that, leaving studio execs who pegged it as a guaranteed box office flop red faced. To put these numbers into context for you, Deadpool has beaten the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million), so this is a massive victory for Ryan Reynolds after a string of flops like Green Lantern and R.I.P.D.

Of course, the actor and movie deserve every bit of its success, and hopefully we'll get a message from Deadpool any day now which makes the sequel 100% official.

@Brainiac13 - Here in the Netherlands i have also seen some young kids going to watch the movie. But the netherlands is pretty lax when it comes to freedom of expression and artsy sh*t.

@shaddowkhan - where in the Netherlands? I watched it yesterday and they didn't let a 15 year old in, who will be in two months 16, and with both his parents there. They had to go back home. Because the movie is for 16 or older.

I seen this coming, Deadpool is much more popular than the media takes the character for. I mean come on, have you been inside a comic convention in the last 5 years? Dozens of Deadpool cosplays.

Now here's the biggie question. Since it has such love by the audience more than critics with 96% audience praise compared to 84% critical acclaim on Rotten Tomatoes, an extensive marketing campaign that is akin to Star Wars and such love for this character, do u guys think Deadpool could end up as the first R-rated film of all time towns its worldwide total with $1 billion worldwide, even now with a record breaking opening weekend it's about to have?

Moral of this story is, studio executives should always listen to the fans. We know what we want and we're willing to pay for it. Now listen carefully "X-Force,X-Force,X-Force,X-Force".
