DEADPOOL Gets A 15 Rating In The UK; Plus New Image With 'Vanessa Carlyle' And A Mask-Less 'Wade Wilson'

Deadpool may be rated R in the US, but it might not be quite as graphic as we've been led to believe if the UK and Ireland rating is anything to go by. More past the jump...

When Deadpool was officially rated R in the US it was for “strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity.” This makes it sound like it should warrant an 18 cert in the UK and Ireland, but it seems the British Board of Film Classification have rated the film 15, which is basically the equivalent of a PG-13. That would be for “strong bloody violence, strong language, sex references.”

Sounds a bit tamer, right? Ah well - perhaps the MPAA are just a little more squeamish than the BBFC when it comes to superhero flicks.

Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Starring Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, T.J. Miller, Ed Skrein, Gina Carano, and Brianna Hildebrand, Deadpool is set to be released on February 12th, 2016.

As long as it's good, I don't care what the rating is. Having said that, I do hope they push the boundaries further than any other superhero movie has done before. Deadpool needs to do that.

@rormachine surely you know that rated r in America is equivalent to a 15 in the UK. Nc17 is the equivalent of an 18 certificate and that's pretty hard to achieve these days.John wick and kingsman are both 15's and certainly not anywhere near a pg 13.

@Rormachine You think that's Bad...it's got a 14 over here in Canada.

Rated 14 A in Canada. That's not bad at all. Same as Looper and Big Trouble in Little China. Beverly Hills Cop was rated 18 A (that's more).

It's has to be Quentin Tarantino level of violence to get an R18 in the UK.

sickboy76, it varies. Nothing is ever slapped with an NC17 any more really, so usually an R will make a 15 yes, but a hard R will be 18 - like 50 Shades Of Grey for example, or the Hateful Eight. Point is the differences in the reasons given. The BBFC description sounds a lot tamer.
