RUMOR: Kyle Chandler & Mackenzie Davis Are Being Eyed For Cable & Domino In DEADPOOL 2
Clear Eyes. Full Hearts. Can't Lose! A new rumor has surfaced from a very good source with an early casting update for Deadpool 2, specifically on who's being considered for Cable & Domino.
Deadpool is easily one of the biggest blockbusters of the year, having grossed over $782.6 million worldwide on a very modest $58 million budget. And with those kinds of numbers, it didn't take long for 20th Century Fox to officially announce their plans for a sequel with Tim Miller, Ryan Reynolds, Rhett Reese, and Paul Wernick all returning in their respective roles.
During the film's surprise second post-credits sequence, the Merc With A Mouth gave us a quick Ferris Bueller-style tease of who we'd see make their long-awaited film debut in a potential sequel and name-dropped Cable a.k.a. Nathan Christopher Charles Summers, the time-traveling mutant son of Scott Summers & Madelyne Pryor, which sent X-Men fans into a frenzy. At that point, a sequel hadn't been announced yet, but that didn't stop Mr. Pool from rattling off a few names: "Mel Gibson, Dolph Lundgren, Keira Knightley," before bidding farewell. However, a lot of time has passed since then and it sounds like Fox may be looking at a very different man to take on the Cable mantle.
During today's installment of Meet The Movie Press, Mashable's ever-reliable Jeff Sneider shared the name that's he's been hearing for Cable and it's apparently one that's been circulating for months: "People were talking about Cable from Deadpool 2. There's been a name floating around for Cable for months, hasn't changed, don't know if it's changed. Didn't make any calls about this. This was just the name that has been out there for months. So take this with a gigantic grain of salt. The biggest grain of salt your tiny little brain can imagine. The name that is floating around for Cable right now is Kyle Chandler." Bet you didn't see that coming. Chandler is best known for his Emmy-winning portrayal of Coach Eric Taylor on the excellent high school football drama Friday Night Nights and as John Rayburn on the hit Netflix series Bloodline. His prominent film roles include The Wolf Of Wall Street, Zero Dark Thirty, and Argo.
Sneider didn't stop there and also revealed who the studio may be considering for fellow X-Force member, Neena Thurman a.k.a. Domino: "The name for Domino, who is said to be the scene-stealer of the movie, is Mackenzie Davis." Another out of the box name, but it's paid off before, so if true, it's likely it could pay off again. Davis is an up-and-comer, best known for her roles in The Martian, That Awkward Moment, and What If. She currently stars on the AMC period drama Halt and Catch Fire and can be seen next in Denis Villeneuve's yet-to-be titled Blade Runner sequel.
It's still very early in the production process and anything can happen between now and the rumored early 2017 start date, so it's hard to say whether either of these casting rumors will actually pan out, but considering Sneider's track record, they certainly have a shot.
