Kevin Feige Reveals How Benedict Cumberbatch Became DOCTOR STRANGE
With the release of new and amazing photos of Marvel's most-anticipated upcoming project Doctor Strange hitting the web, fans have unanimously agreed that Benedict Cumberbatch is Doctor Strange. Now, Kevin Feige reveals why he chose Benedict Cumberbatch to become Marvel's newest hero.
With the reveal of our first official look at Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, fans everywhere sighed with relief as his costume looked to be ripped off a comic book page and brought to life. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, revealed why they cast Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme and what they had to do to get him for the role. “He was someone that we were very interested in for a very long time,” Feige stated. “[But] he kept getting more and more popular! [Laughs] Which is not [essential] for us. Chris Pratt was not popular when we cast him in Guardians. That’s not a prerequisite needed for us casting [someone]. But he kept getting more popular, and more popular, and he kept getting busier, and busier, and it looked like the timing wasn’t going to work.” It looks like Benedict's increasing popularity almost cost him the role of Doctor Strange. Feige then went on to how they ended the search for Doctor Strange, "So we looked at some other actors for a while and ultimately decided, ‘We have to try and make it work with Benedict and with his schedule.’ Which is why we shifted the production schedule around. He finished Hamlet here in London, and I think had a day off, and then went to Kathmandu, Nepal, to shoot the first day of Doctor Strange.” Moving schedules around just so they could land Benedict Cumberbatch might have been one of their best moves and it looks like it's paying off. What do you think? Do you think someone else could've been Doctor Strange? Who would you have gone with?
