Mads Mikkelsen Teases The Dark Humor In DOCTOR STRANGE

Marvel Studios has a pretty solid track record when it comes to balancing humor and the various other elements in their blockbuster films and according to star Mads Mikkelsen, it sounds like they've done it again in Scott Derrickson's Doctor Strange.

Marvel Studios delivered a heckuva main course in May with the gargantuan Captain America: Civil War, and this November, they're bringing you some seconds with Doctor Strange.

While promoting his latest film Men and Chicken, star Mads Mikkelsen took a few moments to chat with Digital Spy about his upcoming role in the Scott Derrickson-directed film by sharing a little about the film's humorous side, which the first teaser trailer didn't really touch on. He starts out by affirming that the film, like the several Marvel films before it, certainly has a good sense of humor and several moments of levity, but says his character - the villainous Kaecilius - doesn't take necessarily part: "You can't bring [the humour] yourself, if it's in the script you have to sort of lean into the script that's already there. There is some. My character is not necessarily carrying too much of it but Doctor Strange is." He further explains: "There's a certain darkness in the Doc and a sense of humour in there, absolutely." It's always been somewhat assumed that a Marvel film will always contain memorable comedic beats, but considering the darker and tragic nature of Stephen Strange's origin story, it'll be interesting to see how Derrickson blends the humor with the mystical and strange.

On another note, Mikkelsen revealed that while his character will undoubtedly appear in CGI-heavy scenes, during filming he mostly dealt with practical effects and stunt work versus anything too reliant on visual effects: "CGI is not a new thing for me, I've done it in a few movies, This one was not too bad, the CGI was not in direct interaction with me in my scenes, it was more like the backdrops, the landscapes would be slightly different sometimes, but I didn't have to interact with it."

So, what do you guys think? Sound off with your thoughts below!

Mads was my choice for Sinestro before he joined the MCU, but from the looks of it, he's probably a vessel and won't survive. So there's still hope!
