As you probably already know, licensed comic book movie toys are not always the best source of information when it comes to what we end up seeing on the big-screen. However, a more plausible reveal has emerged for the next Marvel Cinematic Universe installment.

According to Heroic Hollywood, the following is a description of (and a first look at) the first wave of Diamond Select’s Doctor Strange minimates, and it seems to confirm not only who Rachel McAdams will be playing in the Marvel adaptation, but also the mystery villainous characters to be played by Mads Mikkelsen and British martial artist/actress Zara Phythian.

A Diamond Select Toys Release! The next chapter of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is now the next entry in the long-running Marvel Minimates line! Series 70 of Marvel Minimates mini-figures travels to the world of the Doctor Strange movie, with four different two-packs: Dr. Strange with The Ancient One, Mordo with Kaecilius, the specialty-exclusive Stephen Strange with Christine Palmer and the specialty-exclusive Wong & Zealot! Each 2-inch Minimates mini-figure features 14 points of articulation and fully interchangeable parts. Each two-pack is packaged in a full-color window box.

Based on that minimates product description, and the pairing of the toys in the photo, Rachel McAdams is indeed playing Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange, which has been speculated ever since the Oscar-nominated actress entered talks with Marvel Studios. Furthermore, this means that Mads Mikkelsen's character is Kaecilius while Zara Pythian is playing Zealot, both of whom were spotted on the set in similar costumes back in April.

In the comics, Kaecilius was disciple of Baron Mordo (Chiwetel Ejiofor) before becoming an enemy of the Sorcerer Supreme (Benedict Cumberbatch). The character hasn’t appeared in many issues, but that should give director Scott Derrickson and co. lots of creative freedom. Meanwhile, the name Zealot (not to be confused with DC’s version) notably belonged to a male mutant who first appeared in a Magneto comic book. Therefore, this is likely a completely different character with the same name being portrayed in Doctor Strange, unless Marvel Studios and 20th Century Fox share rights to the character a la Quicksilver.

Directed by Scott Derrickson, Doctor Strange has Benedict Cumberbatch (Stephen Strange), Rachel McAdams (Christine Palmer?), Chiwetel Ejiofor (Baron Mordo), Amy Landecker, with Scott Adkins, Michael Stuhlbarg (Nicodemus West), Tilda Swinton (The Ancient One) and Mads Mikklesen, and the movie is scheduled to open in theaters on November 4, 2016.

@Menks123 - I have it on good authority he's playing the biggest bad guy in the entire MCU: Trevor Slattery.

So since kaecilius is a disciple of mordo. Then mordo is the main baddy right?

@lordhaterig88 - I hope it doesn't mean that Marvel is pulling a, "a friend for some reason goes mad and becomes a villian" on Baron Mordo

It doesn't matter who Mads is playing. He'll be incredible in any role.

I think it is weird how we find out major casting announcements thru these crappy toy merchandising packs.

OK they are often wrong but also can be correct.

Just seems odd that Marvel are so secretive and they gag the actors but the toy companies just come out go BAM!

Got to be better ways to announce casting.
