TMNT reboot fancast:
So, why am I doing this cast? Well, I'm not really impressed with the Michael Bay reboot. And I know, I know. Don't judge it just based on it's trailer. But, despite the trailer (which was okay), the recent casting news with Johnny Knoxville as Leo and Tony Shalhoub playing Splinter has kinda left me in a bit eh.....concerned.
I mean, they're great actors no less (well maybe just Shalhoub) but still. It's just doesn't look like Bay (who I doubt would do this) and director Jonathan Liebesman aren't taking the characters seriously.
I don't know. Maybe I need to see more footage or something, but I'm not convinced so far. So, I decided to a fancast/somewhat plot basis of a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film.
So, Hero2719 proudly presents: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!!!!!!
Synopsis: When a gang war threaten their hometown, four brothers joins forces with a former assistant to protect it from a wealthy scientist. But first, they need to learn how to work together.
Crew:
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown" />
Directed by Jon Faverau
Reason:
I originally considered Matthew Vaughn and Doug Liman, but I wanted to go with someone different. I was impressed with the first Iron Man and how was Faverau was able to balance the tone of the film. It wasn't serious like The Dark Knight, but not a total comedy like (*cough Green Hornet cough*). That's the type of tone that I want to see for TMNT.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-2" />
Written by Eric Kripke (story), Alex Kurtzman & Robert Orci (script)
Reason:
I'm a huge SPN fan and while I like Kripke's current show Revolution, I think he is great with coming up with ideas. However, putting them into script form is a different issue.
Hence, Kurtzman and Orci.
I liked their script for Star Trek and was impressed with their show Sleepy Hollow. I think they would do a great job in bringing depth to the turtles, while Kripke would be great at handing set pieces and helping Kurtzman & Orci with the character development of Leo and Ralph.

<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-3" />
Score by Henry Jackson & James Newton Howard
Reason: I'm a HUGE fan of Jackman. His score for Captain America: The Winter Solider was great as well as his scores for X-Men: First Class (2011) and Kick-Ass (2010). With the help of Howard, (who has worked with Hans Zimmer on The Dark Knight, and has done the score for The Hunger Games films, Snow White & The Huntsman, I Am Legend, etc.) the two would make a great pair in creating an awesome score for the film.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-4" />
Cinematographer: Ben Davis
Reason: Davis has done the cinematography for films such as Stardust, Kick-Ass, recently Guardians of the Galaxy, as well as next year's Avengers: Age of Ultron. I'm impressed with his work on Kick-Ass, mostly on how he brought the comic into the real world. I believe that Davis would do a good job bringing the fantastical elements of the TMNT universe to life.

Production Designer: Nathan Crowley
Reason:
I think Crowley did a great job in creating a neo-noir Gotham. If he create a Gotham that feels real, I can't wait what he can do with the big apple.
mg src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-10" />
Edited by Lee Smith
Reason:
Smith has edited several films including Batman Begins (and its two sequels), X-Men: First Class, and recently Elysium. I think he would do a great job in aiding the film's tone, while being unique and original.
Cast:
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-11" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/images.jpeg" />
Luke Mitchell as the voice/motion capture of Leonardo
Reason:
Mitchell is currently on the CW show The Tomorrow People, where he plays the leader of underground group known as The Tomorrow People. It's here where Mitchell shows the range of a leader and the burden it cares. He portrays his character John as witty, charming, and caring but not supportive. Those are qualities that Leonardo shares with this character and it's how I imagine him.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-12" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/images-2.jpeg" />
Taylor Kitsch as the voice/motion capture of Raphael
Reason:
I feel sorry for Kitsch. He's actually a pretty good actor. But the roles he picks just don't pan out for him as well as he hopes. I think the role of Raphael suits well because of his reckless attitude in John Carter and the I-don't-give-a-damn demeanor that he can bring to the character.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-13" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-19" />
Anton Yelchin as the voice/motion capture of Donatello
Reason: Like Kitsch, I feel sorry for Yelchin. Had Terminator: Salvation became a bigger hit, I think he would have became a bigger star. Now, he's a bit underrated. In this version, I imagine Donny as a combination of awkward and cute. He also presents a voice of reason for the Turtles and I believe that part of the character to life.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-14" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/images-3.jpeg" />
Dylan O'Brien as the voice/motion capture of Michelangelo
Reason:
For this adaptation, Mikey will still be the jokester of the turtles. But even though, he's the youngest doesn't mean the character is all comic relief. I think O'Brien can bring both sides of the character.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-15" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-20" />
Kristen Connolly as April O'Neil
Reason:
April will be a combination of the Mirage comics and the 1987 animated series. Her film backstory will consist of her being an assistant for Baxter Stockman before finding out his ties to the gang war between The Foot Clan and The Purple Dragons. This then leads her to quit her job and becomes a underground reporter.
I thought Connolly was great as Dana in The Cabin in the Woods and her performance as Christina Gallagher on House of Cards was amazing. I think she has the resilience, as well as the headstrong part of the character down.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-16" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-21" />
Garrett Hedlund as Arnold "Casey" Jones
Reason: Now actually, Casey won't be in the first film but will get a mention. I think Hedlund is suitable for the role because I can see him bringing depth into the anti-hero.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-22" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-23" />
James Hong as the voice/motion capture of Splinter
Reason: To be honest, I've only seen Hong in two films: Big Trouble in Little China and Kung Fu Panda. In Big Trouble, he plays a villain whereas in KFP, he plays a noodle-making goose. I think Hong has the voice suitable for the role and would make a good Splinter.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-24" />
Michael Madsen as Detective Eddie Carsan
Reason: Now this character is original. I imagine Carsan as the George Stacy of the TMNT universe. He doesn't know that the turtles exist until the end of the second act. Now why Madsen? Well, Madsen is one of my favorite actors. He has this dry whit that he brings along with each character and I feel that he can bring it to Carsan
Villains:
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-25" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-26" />
Hiroyuki Sanada as The Shredder
Reason: I originally considered Ken Watanabe but felt he was overused in other Fancasts. So, I went with Sanada who could prove that he can play a villain in The Wolverine. He would do a great job in bringing the story of the shredder to life.
*Note: Like Casey Jones, the character won't necessarily be in the first film but will have a behind-the-scenes presence.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-31" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-32" />
Giancarlo Esposito as Baxter Stockman
Reason:
I'm a very huge fan of this actor. If anyone's seen Breaking Bad or Revolution (in that manner), you know how great of a villain Giancarlo can be. I think Esposito would do a job in creating this tragic, but demeaning villain.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-27" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-28" />
Kevin Durand as the voice/motion capture of Bebop
Reason: I've only seen Durand in couple of films, so my preference of him might be a little short. I think Durand might be able to convey the straight-faced nature of the character.
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-29" />
<img src="/images/users/uploads/64197/Unknown-30" />
Michael Rooker as the voice/motion capture of Rocksteady
Reason: I'm a huge fan of this actor. I think his performance of Merle on The Walking Dead was great and completely describes what the character should be. A cocky, self-centered guy who happens to be a warthog. I think Rooker would be great in this role.
Anyways, that's my cast! Hope you enjoyed it.
