With so many films and shows coming out of Marvel I decided to list who I would like to see in some of the roles.
Dreama Walker as Jessica Jones: Some of you may recognize Walker from TV shows like Gossip Girl and Apartment 23, but it’s her role in the extremely disturbing film Compliance that made me think she’d be perfect as Jones. She’s able to play both the confident, independent woman equally as good as she plays the vulnerable young girl. Plus, at 28 years old she’s the perfect age when compared to the 31 year old Charlie Cox.
Gaius Charles as Luke Cage: I think in most cases, fans tend to cast actors in their late thirties and forties for the character of Luke Cage. But what’s needed is someone much younger, and thus the 31 year old Charles is at the right age for this role. However, his age is just of part of what makes him ideal. He is an outstanding actor, coming off a powerful performance on Friday Night Lights in addition to his stint on Grey’s Anatomy. He can bring both the aggressive ferocity and likeability to the character.
Gregory Smith as Iron Fist: With both Chris Pratt and Emily Vancamp firmly in the MCU I can’t help but feel their Everwood co-star should also be there! It was his phenomenal performance as the tragic Ephraim that really contributed to the show’s magic. Currently Smith stars on Rookie Blue as cocky cop Dov Epstien, where he showcases a blend of comedy and heroics that is quite reminiscent of Danny Rand. One of the finest young actors working today.
Jeff Goldblum as Purple Man: I don’t think much needs to be said about Goldblum. His work is consistently great. I think casting an older Killgrave would be much more sinister than having him be the same age as our heroes. Goldblum would be beyond ideal and also act as the familiar face to regular movie goers.
Travis Fimmel as Black Bolt: Now this could be considered slightly typical casting as he already plays a king of sorts on Vikings, but I think Fimmel would be amazing as the leader of the Inhumans. Presumably, Black Bolt would be a rather difficult character to portray on screen due to his reliance on facial expression and body movement alone, but this is something I think the actor could definitely handle. As the soft spoken Ragnar, Fimmel has already proved this, and on top of that he has the look completely down.
Josh Hartnett as Maximus the Mad: Now if you’ve seen my previous articles/castings you’ll know that Hartnett is my favourite actor. Every performance is infused with a degree of sincerity but also with an air of mystery and darkness, which is why he would be ideal for Maximus. His latest turn as Ethan Chandler on Penny Dreadful proved many of his critics wrong and showed just how talented he is. With a history of great CBM performances, I can’t think of anyone better.
Laura Prepon as Captain Marvel: Whether you’re obsessed with OITNB or fell in love with Donna on That 70s Show years ago, you’ll know how enjoyable Prepon is to watch. She’ll undoubtedly be able to deliver on both the dramatics and fun humour the MCU is known for, in addition to having the right look. Most importantly, the actress always comes across as strong and smart, and therefore has all the qualities that Captain Marvel needs.
Ted Danson as Mephisto: Whether we see him in the MCU or not is unknown, but it would so awesome to see Mephisto whispering in Thanos’ ear come Avengers Infinity War. And who better than Danson? His career spans decades of TV and film, comedy and drama, hero and villain. There is so much dark humour and drama Danson could bring to the role and really make the character his own. Chances of this happening are unlikely, but if it did it could go down as one of the best performances in the MCU for sure.
