It’s been four days since we learned that Andrew Garfield would take up the mantle as Peter Parker/Spider-Man in the upcoming Sony reboot. After much distraught and distaste expressed by fan boys and fan girls alike as to this decision…including me originally…I took a closer look into the guy who would now portray my favorite superhero and it’s my opinion that he may in fact play an amazing Spidey. Take a look at the comparison pic below and decide for yourself.
But this editorial doesn’t focus on our FNSM, for we already know who has been chosen for that role. What we want to know now is who are the actors and actresses respectively that should portray the important characters within Peter Parker’s world? Furthermore I wish to share my personal opinion as to who should become said characters and the reasons why. Listed below will be my fan cast for the Spider-Man reboot.
Richard Jenkins- Ben Parker
Other than seeing him play the short-fused dad Robert Doback in Step Brothers, (ha ha by the way, I love that movie) I am unfamiliar with his work. However aside from the physical resemblance to the loving Uncle Ben, his ability to act (God help me I’m using an example of this poor man’s acting abilities) in Step Brothers is nothing short of excellent; he can go from a foul mouthed hothead who’s willing to spank his 40 year old stepson, to a compassionate and understanding family man. It is for that reason, I would like to see Jenkins play the man who teaches his nephew that “With great power, comes great responsibility”.
Helen Mirren- May Parker
A remarkable woman who needs no introduction, Helen Mirren has wooed the world countless times with her remarkable roles and talent. With an Academy Award for Best Actress (‘The Queen’), Emmy’s & other nominations, Mirren is a beloved actress by all on the silver screen. Her ability to change character flawlessly would make her an excellent candidate for Aunt May; May is known for her kind loving nature, however, she has also been known to become quite irate at times as anyone who has Peter for a nephew would. With such an important character as May, I believe Mirren could bring life to the character in a way no other actress could.
Taylor Momsen- Gwen Stacy

HERE UPDATED: Elena Satine- Mary Jane Watson
Wow. This gorgeous and multi-talented actress not only wants to play the role of MJ, but she is a huge fan of the Marvel comic-verse as well!! A special thanks to TANKGIRL for the pic! I know I wanted Mary Elizabeth Winstead for MJ, but that was before I discovered the beautiful Ms. Satine! Elena Satine is our Mary Jane!!!
Alden Ehrenreich- Harry Osborn
Although he was one of the finalists for the role of Spidey in the reboot, I honestly think the guy was in the running for the wrong part. Praised for his part in the movie Tetro, Ehrenreich has great acting capability and could fit in the persona of Pete’s best friend Harry like a glove. Hopefully this reboot is successful, and if so, Alden could make an incredible Harry mentally breaking down into the Green Goblin 2 in future films. And by Green Goblin 2, I mean not a guy in a paintball mask on a flying snowboard ;)
Bryan Cranston- Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin
From his memorable role as Dr. Tim Whatley on ‘Seinfeld’, to the loveable whimsical dad Hal on Malcolm in the Middle, and to his spectacularly dark act as Walter White in the TV hit ‘Breaking Bad’, Cranston has proved his amazing aptitude to act isn’t secluded to any one type of genre (and he’s got the awards to show it). As Norman Osborn, Spider-Man’s greatest enemy (it goes GG then Venom for me) Cranston could portray the Green Goblin magnificently in a way that would make us comic lovers proud.
JK Simmons- J Jonah Jameson
Hey, come on…NO ONE can top Simmons’ role as the Daily Bugle’s Editor-In-Chief…NO ONE. He already said he’d return for the 4th film when it was still being made and I say to still take him up on that offer!! Honestly, I wouldn’t think it the least bit lazy to re-cast him for the reboot…in fact I’d call it
brilliant!
Elisha Cuthbert- Felicia Hardy/the Black Cat
Need I say more? The girl is a gorgeous talented actress and she can play the sweet, playful and sensuous role amazingly (‘The Girl Next Door’). As the 3rd and most persistent temptress/ love interest to Spidey, the Black Cat goes from a life of crime to crime fighting to be with Pete. Cuthbert is Felicia Hardy incarnate hands down ladies and gentleman!
That concludes my fan cast for the important characters of Spidey’s world for the reboot. I know I didn’t list the following: Flash Thompson, Liz Allen, Betty Brant, Robbie Robertson & Captain George Stacy. That’s because I honestly ran out of steam as to who would portray these roles the best. If you guys have ideas as to who you think they should be, please feel free to tell me! And also please tell me what you think of my fan cast so far…but I ask that you please be gentle, this is my first editorial.
