To me, my favorite super hero has always been the Flash. I concider him to be the de facto first super hero of the Silver Age, and enjoy many of his stories of that time. Though, one thing for sure, I wonder how a Flash movie will turn out if it was made right now. Well, here are some ideas I would like to provide for the movie.
Cast
This is the main point of the whole article. Now,I have to admit not all of my choices are original; but I feel these choices for the movie just fit correctly in my opinion.
Patrick Wilson as Barry Allen/The Flash
On The Flash: This is the main protagonist of the film. Gained his powers through an accident, when he and some chemical substance was struck by lightning from a violent storm. I figure retaining all of the elements from the comics would work out great for a story; a guy who always subjected to his own slowness, ironically gained the powers of super speed to do things no one else can do. In this case, with his powers he will bring down the crime rate of Central City.
On Patrick Wilson: Honestly, he is the perfect fit for the character. His portrayal in movies like Watchmen, Phantom of the Oprah, The A-Team and Little Children gives me a picture on how well he will portray the characters. The sorrowful, wanting to do more side of Barry Allen can come from his experience on playing Nite Owl in Watchmen and the heroic, comical side of The Flash can be based from his role from the other three movies. He will indeed work out.
Bryce Dallas Howard as Iris West
On Iris West: She is a reporter for Picture News and the girlfriend of Barry Allen, so obviously she is the love interest of the movie. For her character here, she would be a hard working reporter that is very good at her job; a good sort of chemistry to Barry's slackerish personality. I think for the first movie, she will already deduced the Flash being Barry Allen; it happened in the comics before.
On Bryce Dallas Howard: The only thing that would make a lot of people say no to this was her involvement in Spider-Man 3 and Eclipse. I would argue with these reasons: 1) If the movie was better written, she would of been a really good Gwen Stacy (or better yet, if there was a fourth movie that revolves around her starting a relation with Peter), 2) Even though it was a Twilight movie, she was playing as the antagonist wanting to kill Edward and Bella; which in logic is concider a good thing (plus, its not like she appeared in ALL the Twilight movies), 3)She did appear in Terminator Salvation as Kate Conners, nuff said. I believe that she would do well as Iris, she can act and she nail the apperance of Iris West.
Bruce Greenwood as Jay Garrick/The Flash
On Jay Garrick: This guy is the original Flash, of the twin city of Keystone City. This guy is the main inspiration for Barry Allen, who will be a retired hero who is brought back in action later on in the film. I think his character will set off an idea that there were many super heroes in the past; and an interesting Master-Apprentice relation between him and Barry.
On Bruce Greenwood: The guy was mention in a lot of fan casts; and I can see why. Not only does he look the part, but his acting is good in movies and tv shows.
Phil LaMarr as Julio Mendez
On Julio Mendez: He is a fellow forensic scientist and friend of Barry Allen. I think for his apperance in the movie will be as a down-to-earth, comic relief supporting character who is a follower of all of the Flash's exploit. Also, I liked this original character from The Flash tv series.
On Phil LaMarr: Why not? I enjoyed him in many shows, from comedies like MadTV to fanboy shows like Static Shock, Samurai Jack and Avengers.
Criss Angels or David Blaine as Abra Kadabra
On Abra Kadabra: A man from the 64th Century, who has the desire of wanting to be a great magician in the 21st Centuary. In the movie, he would be the main antagonist in the film. I want to portray him first as just a popular magician at the beginning of the film, later on revealing himself to be the main antagonist for being the one responsible for the creation of the crime organization in Central City known as "The Rogues" and providing like minded criminals advance weapons from the future. Though he is the founder of the group, in the movie it will show he actually just want the fame of being a magician and has no desire of running his crime group; he was order to do so by a another person from the future.
On Criss Angels and David Blaine: I think it makes sense for Abra Kadabra to be played by either of the two (they are illusionist). For Criss Angels, if will give the character a more modern approach of the character. For David Blaine, he will look exactly like the character with every features (the hair, the goatee, the clothing).
Paul Giamatti as Captain Cold
On Captain Cold: A criminal who uses a stolen ice ray gun to commit the crimes. While Abra Kadabra is the founder of the Rogue, Captain Cold will the leader of the group itself. I want him to be portrayed as a cold-hearted (pun intended), no nonsense, paranoid villain who hates all of the Flash's involvements in ending crime.
On Paul Giamatti: He seems like the best choice for being Captain Cold. He has the looks, the physique, and the personaliity from the movies he appeared in. So why not?
Matthew Fox as Mirror Master
On Mirror Master: A criminal who utilizes mirror related weapons such as a ray gun that can blast out images of himself and laser, and uses a bunch o mirrors to transport himself through different parts. I figure he should be an ex-marines man working as prime mercenary for the Rogues. That way, he will be portrayed as the member who is well round with his weapons from Abra Kadabra.
On Matthew Fox: He seems like the a good choice for portraying this character. Though he was popularly assosiated for the Flash role, I think this guy is better off as Mirror Master.
Sharlto Copley as Trickster
On Trickster: A mentally insane criminal who uses air shoes (allowing him to walk and run in air) and mini bombs. This guy should be something like the Joker but with more gag weapons and a over the top costume.
On Sharlto Copley: Take this to mind - A-Team, Murdock, Performance.
Hugh Jackman as Captain Boomerang
On Captain Boomerang: A criminal with athletic attributes who uses different kinds of boomerang. I think I just already describe what kind of character this guy will be.
On Hugh Jackman: Perfect candidate from a fan cast that I read; he is Australlian after all.
David Tennant as Weather Wizard
On Weather Wizard: Criminal who uses this technological wand to control the weather.
On David Tennant: The guy look the part, simple as that. Plus, I saw him in a Flash fan cast and figure he was perfect for the role.
Sam Worthington as Heat Wave
On Heat Wave: A criminal who uses a gun that emits fire. His character in the movie will be like that of the comics, hot headed (seriously, Flash villains are created just for cliche puns) and quick to argue the leadership of Captain Cold.
On Sam Worthington: The actor is tough, and can present a aggressive attitude for the character. So I say he will be good to play Heat Wave.
Seth Rogen as The Turtle (or Turtle Man)
On The Turtle: A criminal who is the Flash's first gimmicked villain, who uses a weapon to make people move slow. I figure this guy will serve as the first Rogue member to be taken down by the Flash when he is robbing a bank.
On Seth Rogen: I like this guy in Green Hornet, but I feel he will be better as a minor villain in a movie like this (seriously, The Turtle; a good comedic role for this guy).
Adrian Brody as Professor Zoom
On Professor Zoom: A man from the 31st Century who is both obsessed and jelous of the Flash, and have the same powers as the Flash. If the Flash was made into a movie trilogy, I want this guy to serve as the main villain for the series. In this movie, he will be the one who told Abra Kadabra to form the super villain group, the Rogue, in the past as a way to try and destroy the Flash in that time period. He will be a "shadow villain" in this movie, just orchrestrating the plans behind the scenes
On Adrian Brody: The guy is a good actor, and I think he will do a good portrayal as the deranged villain.
Story
Obviously, this will be an origin movie; but inspired from how the Captain America movie went, why not just make the first half an origin story and the second all the good stuff. I figure for the first half it will introduce everything like the background of Central City being over run by crime, Abra Kadabra being a very popular illusionist in Central City, Barry Allen before and after getting his powers and learning how to control them, and then the introduction of the Flash when he defeated one of the core members of the Rogue, The Turtle.
Than for the second half, it will showcase the Flash beating each and every member of the Rogue. Both Rogue leader Captain Cold and Abra Kadabra will grow sick and tired of the Flash's apperance. Barry will also visit Keystone City to meet his idol Jay Garreck. He revealed himself to the man as the current Flash, and ask if the old man want to get back in action as the Flash again, Jay declines saying that he is too old. Iris West will figure out the secret identity of the Flash being Barry Allen, and tell her co workers that she might have deduced the identity of the hero but not reveal who it is. One of the co-workers will turn out to be The Trickster, and inform Captain Cold that Iris West knows the true identity of the Flash. Breaking their allies out of Iron Heights prision, the Rogues plot their revenge on the Flash by taking hostage of the employees at Picture News hoping the Flash will come, and interrogate Iris West for the identity of the Flash. When the news reported the incident, Barry decides to go to where the Rogue is at and try to fight them all. While fighting, he was beaten by the combine might of the group, but saved by Jay Garreck in his Flash identity. The two men together than beat all the Rogue with their speed, and save everybody at Picture News. Barry investigated the weapons the Rogue uses and figures out the technology was the same thing Abra Kadabra uses for his performance. While confronting the man, Abra Kadabra revealed to Barry that he is from the future and he did provide the Rogue their weapons; Abra than fights the Flash to avoid arrest. In the end, Flash beats Abra Kadabra and manage to officially put all the Rogues in jail. Barry and Iris than talk to one another about Barry's heroics as the Flash, furthering making their relation more into a commitment. The final scene than shows Abra Kadabra speaking to a mysterious guy who is disappointed that both Abra and Rogue was unable to destroy the Flash. The unknown guy turns out to be Professor Zoom, who states in the end that he have to resort to his back up plan in Africa, to eliminate the good name of The Flash.
Presentation
For this movie, its genre would be a mix of crime thriller and science fiction. The uses of special effects will be heavy with the presentation of the Flash's movement and speed, as well as the weapons the Rogue uses in the movie. I think what would definately draw in the audience will be a uses of slow motion to present how fast the Flash moves compare to how we move in real time. The landscape of Central City will be base off on cities like Los Angelas and Chicago combine. And the costumes, well . . . maybe I draw some concept art on the apperance of the characters for this movie; maybe that will serve as a part 2 to this fancast.
Anyway, I hope that you all enjoyed this fan cast that I have made. It took a while, but I have to say it came out great.
