A real-life Superhero dressed in tights, a mask and a black and gold lycra suit, says he is helping to make the streets of Seattle safer by scaring away criminals.

The man, called Phoenix Jones, wears a bullet proof vest, and also has stab protection as well as being armed with a taser and tear gas.

He says when he walks into an area, criminals leave because they see the suit and do not want to take him on.

It is almost a case of Superman meets Batman as on most nights Phoenix walks into a comic store, enters a back room hidden behind shelves and is transformed into his character.

He has already managed to stop a man breaking into a car and possibly stealing it.

The would-be victim, known as Dan, was walking back to his vehicle in a car park when he saw a man with a metal strip trying to open his car.

Dan said: "He started sticking it down between the window and the rubber strip."

Dan began to call 911, but said help arrived before he even finished dialling.

He explained: "From the right, this guy comes dashing in, wearing this skin-tight rubber, black and gold suit, and starts chasing him away."

Phoenix is not the only costume-clad crime-fighter in Seattle.

There are eight other members of his Rain City Superhero group who also walk the streets, looking out for crime and prepared to fight it.

Since Phoenix started his crusade nine months ago, he has been stabbed and was threatened with a gun several times, but received no serious injuries.

Unfortunately, he did not find the man who was breaking into Dan's car.

He told CBS: "When I walk into a neighbourhood, criminals leave because they see the suit.

"I symbolise that the average person doesn't have to walk around and see bad things and do nothing."

Grif wins the thread

He might have bullet-proof vest, but the rest of his body is unprotected. So he's either gonna get in trouble with the local authorities or the street-gangs/group-thugs, and it's gonna end badly for him.

There's a reason why these type of "Super-Heroes" only exist in the comic-books, movies, etc. Playing with fire will get you burned sooner or later. There's a big difference between being brave and being foolhardy.

So here's to hoping he's always extremely lucky or hangs up his suit before he gets into REAL trouble.
Roscoe182 - 1/6/2011, 6:59 AM
like i said i hope the guy dnt get hurt bt it will end in jail or hospital .
SHHH - 1/6/2011, 7:13 AM

marvel72 - 1/6/2011, 8:33 AM

dudebro - 1/6/2011, 12:27 PM
You know if most people had the resources they'd attempt the same.
Anthrax - 1/6/2011, 12:29 PM
That sucks and annoying at the same time
Bandrews1 - 1/6/2011, 1:49 PM
@Protonite, I agree.
flames809 - 1/6/2011, 2:28 PM
idiot why if you a hero you go on camera for the whole world to see which means the guy you stop from stealing the car can be watching the suit and know were you hide at. if your a superhero there are rules you will have to follow and thats don't tell your secret to no one cause we in the real world people cant be trusted with shit like that unless there your closes friends. and also don't tell what your suit is made up why you think batman has the upper hand??????
Kendospawn - 1/6/2011, 3:02 PM
@ Protonite...and lackeys. Yeah, cause god forbid a super hero put his life on the line and do something silly like get shot. Oh wait, that's exactly what super heroes do. That's what makes em Super...not powers.

He may seem crazy, but many ordinary men have taken the law into their own hands. Read up on Teddy Roosevelt, who rode around on a bicycle cleaning up the streets and later became president!
OdinsMissingEye - 1/6/2011, 3:08 PM
This really makes me want to move to Seattle and become his archnemesis so I can create puzzles for him to solve and watch him attempt to escape from elaborate death traps
comicb00kguy - 1/6/2011, 3:25 PM
Flames: You make some very good points. There is a good reason that many of these guys have "secret identities".

I think it's a pretty cool idea to want to help people out like a real "superhero", but I hope this guy has the sense to leave real crime to the cops before he gets some gangbanger blowing his head off.
Badawi - 1/6/2011, 3:32 PM
Now we know he hides in a comic book store and we know his name! someone should tell him he's doing it wrong
steelrocks - 1/6/2011, 3:43 PM
f*ck! This dude cant be that dumb. I hope he finds another hide out now. WTF?

Nice costume. Hope it's bullet proof indeed
greenlanter13 - 1/6/2011, 3:54 PM
how come i have never seen or heard of this guy and i live in Seattle
patriautism - 1/6/2011, 4:08 PM
Now that I know how to access his secret lair,
I'm totally going to steal his stuff!

KFirefly - 1/6/2011, 4:11 PM
I have to say sweet, but one of these days I'm sure someone will decied to take him down just to say they beat-up a superhero.
But power to this guy for wanting to do something about crime, just hope it doesn't get too out of hand.
That was pretty stupid to say where he "transforms", because any intelligent persons could narrow it down to comic stores, which this person ether owns or knows the people who work there.
Again, all the power to him; sometimes extreme examples are needed to make a point.
HAQ - 1/6/2011, 4:31 PM
[frick]in' Kick-Ass. Costume sucks though lol.
HAQ - 1/6/2011, 4:45 PM
I'm waitin' 4 a real life Batman or Iron Man - that'd b AWESOME!!!!! Not some amateurs in badly made costumes walkin' down the street gettin' intimidated by drugdealers etc. No, dudes, who have the knowledge, skills and money to buy/produce the needed functioning equipment to fight crime efficiently, protect themselves from harm and look dope while doin' it:D.
Geeksiah - 1/6/2011, 5:32 PM
lot of hate here for a man who's living his dream.
Cops and people in the military get injured and killed. This guy could follow.
But if this is his dream, if this inspires others I'm all for it.

valeriesghost - 1/6/2011, 6:00 PM
I live here in Seattle, I may have to track his ass down and kick him in the nuts to see if he's wearing a cup.

if he kicks my ass at least i can say i got it kicked by a costumed vigilante :)
Nav - 1/6/2011, 6:37 PM
The sad part is that a good ol' shotgun blow easily ends the party for all of em.
HarrisonBergeron - 1/6/2011, 6:40 PM
It is commendable, but he is doing it all wrong. First the news appearance is just stupid; I'm a comic hero fan and I want to beat the shit out of him, what does that mean actual ne'er do wells in his community are going to do? At least he didn't give away his secret hide out, so they wont be able to find him- oh wait, nevermind.

If you want to be a true super hero in the real world you should not wear a gaudy costume, it just makes you stand out. He's gonna end up being gunned down like the party character in Kick-Ass.

stewbondra - 1/6/2011, 6:49 PM
wow . .. that guy is stupid. almost cant wait for him to get [frick]ed up!!!! sorry to say it, but its true. -haha-
AEStark - 1/6/2011, 8:50 PM
We need more examples of good people doing good for the sake of justice. He gets all my kudos.
bgharcourt - 1/6/2011, 9:43 PM
"the one thing people love more then a hero, is to watch a hero fall." --Green Goblin
While I agree with the folks that the interview was a dumb move,( come on you showed your frick'n awesome hideout!)His spirit is in the right place. He may get hurt, as stated above he has recived many gunshot and stab wounds, but he keeps on going back. Maybe he has a death wish, maybe he is insane. But riddle me this, how many of you have ever done anything to help your fellow man? I mean really hepled someone.
wonderme - 1/6/2011, 10:49 PM
Is this guy looking to get killed? This isn't the dumb movie Kick Ass, it is real life, there are no stunt doubles. Maby his 'heart and his spirit' are in the right place but maby not his brain.
ZombieOverEasy - 1/7/2011, 12:12 AM
I read about these guys, there's more than just him. They're the Rain City Superheroes, most of the guys that do this have military training.

I'm iffy on the costumes, but I'm all for the initiative these guys are taking.

In New York City early last year, a guy was stabbed stopping a mugger. He then laid on a BUSY sidewalk and bled out as almost 50 people walked by, including the woman he saved from being mugged. Indifference is an evil thing, will this guy or one of the other guys end up dead or seriously hurt? Probably.

But the fact remains, they're doing more than most to help out their communities and they may (or may have already) save(d) a life or lives.
Thelastdalek - 1/7/2011, 3:01 AM
This guy is going to get himself killed but people her shouldnt hate on him he's only trying to do good. That being said he should stop what he's doing for his own good.
Ghola - 1/7/2011, 3:50 AM
ha this guy even made the news in Australia. guess now that hes famous he can get some comic book royalties and retire.
Technoman - 1/7/2011, 3:29 PM
