I thought I would include a few of my choices for the roles of the Justice League of America. The League originally appeared with a line-up that included Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman and the Martian Manhunter (from wikipedia.com).
Superman
The list of CBMer’s choices to play Superman include Matt Bomer, Henry Cavill and Jim Cavezil. Unarguably, the final choice of actor for this role needs strong screen presence. My choice is Tahmoh Penikett. He stands 6 foot 3 and his build is a match for the Man of Steel. Many will agree that he possesses the screen presence that is sought for this role. He has proven in Battlestar Galactica and Dollhouse that he certainly has plenty of acting talent. I certainly believe he can give us a convincing Clark Kent – one that is not overly clumsy.
With a few touch ups, such as blue contact lenses, he can certainly make a worthy Superman. With recent news that the actor for a Superman will be from a TV series, why not Tahmoh?
Superman’s abilities include invulnerability, flight, super-strength, heat vision, x-ray vision and super speed. He is known as the Boy Scout. His Kryptonian name is Kal El. His alter ego is Clark Kent and he works as a reporter for Metropolis’s Daily Planet.
Batman
It is unlikely that Christian Bale will play Batman in a Justice League movie.
I really like Tom Hardy for Batman. I think the orignal casting for this came from Ryden, so the credit goes to him. I think Hardy is an excellent pick for this role. His acting credits include Star Trek Nemesis where he played the vengeful clone of Captain Picard and thereby proving this actor can play dark, obsessive and intelligent roles. Batman is additionally known as "the Caped Crusader", "the Dark Knight" and "the World's Greatest Detective". Batman's identity is Bruce Wayne, a playboy, industrialist, and philanthropist. (From www.wikipedia.com). He has no super powers but his power comes from his intelligence.
Wonder Woman
This is role has proved very hard to cast. Jodi Lyn O’Keefe is one the most popular choices for Wonder Woman and I have to agree with other casters to use this actress in this role. She played a tough, no-nonsense character on Prison Break and is definitely capable of the fight action needed for a movie of this caliber. Wonder Woman is known as Diana. Her powers include superhuman strength, flight, super-speed, super-stamina, and super-agility. She is highly proficient in hand-to-hand combat and in the art of tactical warfare. She uses her Lasso of Truth, which forces those bound by it to tell the truth, a pair of indestructible bracelets, and an invisible airplane. (From www.wikipedia.com).
Green Lantern
Ryan Reynolds has already been cast, therefore I am not going to explain further. Hal Jordan is a member of the Green Lantern Corps. He wields a power ring. Through the use of will power and imagination, he can use the ring to generate green energy in any form he can conceive. The ring was created by the Guardians of the Universe who also created the Green Lantern Corps. (From www.wikipedia.com).
Martian Manhunter
This role undoubtedly needs an actor whose voice and acting ability suit the detective J’onn J’onzz (or John Jones) and Martian Manhunter. I can certainly believe Laurence Fishburne is perfect for this role. However, in order to add a new choice for the role, I put forward Eamonn Walker. He is a British actor who played Saïd on the TV series “Oz”. Ultimately, he could also play The Black Panther. He is a strong actor who exuded a lot of intelligence and leadership as Saïd. Martian Manhunter is a green-skinned extraterrestrial humanoid from the planet Mars. His abilites include super strength, speed, stamina, intangability, invisibility and telepathy. (From www.wikipedia.com). His strength is on a par with that of Superman’s. He has an intense fear and of fire since he can be harmed by it.
Flash: Barry Allen
I have seen various names put forward by CBMers for the role of Flash. I would, however, like to add some new choices. James Denton (Desparate Housewives) is my favourite choice for the part of Barry Allen. I certainly think he looks the part and is potentially a good choice to play Barry Allen. He can pull off the serious, always-do-the-right-thing attitude that is part of Barry’s personality. I can also see him being the perfect mentor to Wally West. Barry Allen is a police scientist. A lightning bolt shattered a case full of chemicals and spilled them all over Allen. As a result, Allen finds that he can run extremely fast and has matching reflexes. He draws his energy from the Speed Force (www.wikipedia.com).
Flash: Wally West
Wally West is impulsive and has a mouth that is almost as quick as his feet. I am very aware that many CBMers don’t like casting actors who have appeared in the same TV series in the same movie. However, I don’t think that should disqualify actors from appearing together in a movie that is totally differentiated from their TV series.
I choose Shawn Pyfrom (also from Desperate Housewives). Those of us familiar with the character know him to be smart with a somewhat devious and artfully cunning towards his mother in the series. This trait is part of the reason why I think Pyfrom has the personality to play Wally West/Kid Flash and ultimately The Flash. He is youthful and likeable, which also make him potentially an ideal choice for a young Wally West. Emphasis on young. I believe Shawn would play cocky extremely well, which is a personality trait of Wally. Otherwise, Michael Weatherly or Scott Porter for Wally West. Wally is Barry Allen’s nephew. He gained his powers in a repeat of the accident which gave Allen his powers.
Green Arrow
Like so many of CBMers, I cannot find fault with Josh Holloway as Green Arrow. He has the ideal characteristics to play the Emerald Archer. His alter ego is Oliver Queen. He is a skilled archer who invents trick arrows with various special functions, such as a glue arrow, a net arrow, explosive arrow, time bomb arrow, grappling arrow, fire extinguishing arrow, flash arrow, tear gas arrow, cryonic arrow and a boxing-glove arrow. (From www.wikipedia.com).
Aquaman
I have cast Alexander Saarsgard as Aquaman who is also known as Arthur Curry. He looks the part and is phenomenal in True Blood. Aquaman is king of the underwater city of Atlantis. His abilities include undersea adaptability, telepathy and super human strength. (From www.wikipedia.com).
Zatanna
I had the idea of Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl) for Zatanna. This actress does look the part but I believe she can do the role of Zatanna justice. This actress has many acting credits (including a role on House MD) and I think she can play the part. Zatanna Zatara is the daughter of famed magician Giovanni “John” Zatara and Sindella, a member of the mystical Homo Magi race. Zatanna is a powerful sorceress whose abilities are apparently genetic. As a tribute to her father and as a focal point, she usually casts spells by speaking verbal commands backwards (from www.wikipedia.com).
Lois Lane
Lois Lane is strong-minded, charming and smart. You therefore need an actress who easily portrays these characteristics. Michelle Monaghan (credit to In Tyler We Trust) is an excellent choice. I would like to add another actress for the role. My choice is Emily Deschanel. She has appeared in the TV series "Bones". She plays the hard-headed title character which is a personality trait in common with Lois Lane.
Lois is a reporter for Metropolis’s Daily Planet. She is also Superman’s love interest.
Dan Turpin
Dan Lauria looks like Dan Turpin. Why not have him play the hard-boiled detective, Dan Turpin? I came across this idea on the Internet, and I think it is a perfect choice. Dan Turpin is a member of the Metropolis Special Crimes Unit. (From www.wikipedia.com).
Kara/Supergirl
Kaley Cuoco from “The Big Bang Theory” is my choice for Supergirl. I am aware of the irony, however, this actress does look the part and has already shown that she is capable of fight-action as the young witch from “Charmed”. I would simply like to add this actress as a new choice to play Kara/Supergirl. Kara Zor-El is the biological cousin of Superman. Her powers are similar to Superman’s.
Hawkgirl
My choice for this role is Lexa Doig from the TV series “Andromeda”. I think she has the right traits to portray Hawkgirl. Shayera Hol, known on Earth as Hawkgirl, was a founding member of the Justice League, and a member of the Thanagarian military. her physical strength, endurance and durability are much greater than those of humans. Hawkgirl carries a mace made of Nth metal. (From http://dcanimated.wikia.com/wiki/Hawkgirl).
Hawkman
I have decided to cast Josh Brolin. I certainly think he has the personality and screen presence to play this role. And he has proved that can play villains and a hero and has shown to be capable of action roles. Hawkman is an expert with a wide array of archaic weapons including battle axes, maces, swords, spears and shields (From www.wikipedia.com). Hawkman is Carter Hall, an archaeologist who discovered a dagger with a crystal blade. Another version is Katar Hol, a policeman from the Planet Thangar. Hawkman uses Nth Metal to grant him flight, as the metal defies gravity and the abilities are controlled mentally. (From www.comicvine.com).
Orion
My choice for Orion is Cole Hauser. I chose someone who can play rage but at the same time be a great warrior and hero. Orion is the son of Darkseid. Orion possesses strength, stamina and durability that can make him more of a match for Superman or Wonder Woman. Fury fuels Orion and has made him the fiercest warrior among all the New Gods. His ferocity in combat, which is legendary, is what has earned him the title "Dog of War". (From www.comicvine.com).
Lex Luthor
I cast Ralph Fiennes as my choice of Lex Lutjor. Lex is arrogant, intelligent and ambitious. He puts on the mask of the humanitarian businessman for the benefit of the media and public. Yet despite that, he is cunning and devious. Lex Luthor has no super human powers himself. However, Luthor is a genius and financial wizard. He is one of the most powerful men on the planet and has access to all the technology developed by his company Lex-Corp and the wealth to buy anything he desires. (From www.rapsheet.co.uk). I think Fiennes would be great as Lex Luthor.
Mercy Graves
Sienna Miller proved in GI Joe that she is capable of fight action.
This character is strongly loyal to her employer, Lex Luthor. It has been speculated that she is of Amazonian descent but their true origins have yet to be revealed. (From www.rapsheet.co.uk). However, I would also like to nominate Famke Jansen for the role. She was in James Bond (Golden Eye) and even though she already played Jean Grey in Marvel’s X-Men, I think she can fit the role of Mercy Graves, which, of course, is DC.
Brainiac
I am in strong favour of the AI version of Brainiac. Whether the character is the AI, humanoid or combination of both, my choice for the role of Brainiac is British actor Charles Dance. He gave a truly intimidating and smart performance as the villain in “Last Action Hero”.
Brainiac seeks to conquer the Earth and destroy his archenemy Superman. The humanoid form of Brainiac is a scientist by the name of Vril Drax. (From www.rapsheet.co.uk). Brainiac is responsible for shrinking several cities including Kandor. He appears as a green humanoid with a network of red diodes across his head (From www.wikipedia.com).
The AI form of Brainiac is a super computer created by scientists on the planet of Krypton.
Darkseid
Most fans will agree that Darkseid is an ideal choice of villain for a Justice League movie. This character is unsympathetic, tyrannical and consumed with self-importance. Michael Ironside is perfect for the role. I also think Robert John Burke is a good candidate. He has played villains before. (And I hope I am the first to also nominate him for John Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man reboot). Darkseid is the ruler of the planet Apokolips. Darkseid possesses the Omega force, this allows him to project Omega beams from his eyes which disintegrate almost anything. (From www.rapsheet.co.uk).
Kalibak
Kevin Durand is a popular actor on this site. He has been named on this site for various characters. However, I think he suits the role of Kalibak perfectly. He has played the big dumb guy before (Road Hogs) and has the acting ability to play the brutish warrior. Kalibak is the son of Darkseid and is a bestial hulk of a figure. He is Darkseid's strong (but dumb) main brute. Kalibak's ultimate goal is to please his father. He feels he must gain his respect and love, and in doing so destroy his mortal enemy, Superman. (From www.supermantas.com). Kalibak is a skilled hand-to-hand fighter; this combined with his savagery makes him a deadly opponent (From www.rapsheet.co.uk).
Desaad
I put forward the notion of Willem Dafoe for Desaad. Dafoe plays bad so well. I think Dafoe can give a truly creepy and maniacal performance as Darkseid’s specialist. Desaad was one of the earliest allies of Darkseid in his rise to power on the planet Apokolips. Desaad was an inventor who specialised in the creation of weapons and devices for torturing and killing, usually in a long, painful manner. (From www.rapsheet.com)
Granny Goodness
I am adding a new choice for the role of Granny Goodness. Lainie Kazan (The Associate) looks the part but can also play mean characters as well. I think she would be believable as the not so kindly Granny Goodness.
Granny Goodness is an inhabitant of Apokolips is one of Darkseid’s lieutenants.
She uses torture to train Darkseid’s elite soldiers to become fanatical warriors willing to kill or die for Darkseids’s glory (from Wikipedia.com).
