Director Alan Taylor Cites BATMAN BEGINS As Inspiration For TERMINATOR Reboot

Even though Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor won’t confirm or deny if he’s directing the 2015 reboot to the Terminator, he did say the film would be similar to Batman Begins if he was to direct the film.

Even though director Alan Taylor won't confirm or deny his involvement in the film, did, however, admit talks have been progressing and if he was to direct the film – hypothetically, of course – fans should regard it like Batman Begins in relation to the Joel Schumacher Batman movies. That is: a respectful remake taking a franchise in a new direction after multiple missteps. While Taylor was very assertive in saying his attachment to a new Terminator film was still a rumor, he did talk about the information leaking online:

Funny thing was it came out really early, a reminder of what the blogosphere can do. I had one conversation, didn’t tell anyone and then all of a sudden, BOOM, it was online the next day. So my agent said, ‘You probably should know [this is gonna come up].’ It’s progressed a lot since then, but I’m still officially going to call it a rumor.

He was then asked hypothetically how he would handle the franchise. He says:

We all love the first two and I actually went back and watched them again and my respect level only went up. I think there is another famous franchise that had a wonderful beginning and then turned a little bananas….Tim Burton’s first Batman is just glorious and by the time it got around to nipples on costumes and all that stuff it sort of lost its way. And for [Christopher] Nolan to come in an say ‘I respect this material so much I’m going to take it up to *here,* that’s a great inspiration.’ I think any version, whoever is directing Terminator, would be very respectful and serve the first two and probably feel a bit more freedom by the end.

The director ended by saying that official announcements, including casting announcements, “will probably start leaking pretty soon.” Do you think Taylor will be a good choice for the Terminator Reboot? The new Terminator film is set for release June 26, 2015.

I guess Batman Begins is now the go-to inspiration for all reboots and origin stories.

That's why The Dark Knight trilogy is one of the best trilogy ever. It will continue to inspire many film makers for a long time to come.

Terminator 3 SUCKED ASS.

Terminator 4 was awesome! T2 is the best, T4 is second best, and the other 2 follow.

No dont reboot it please. What was wrong with Terminator 4 it was a good movie.

Also as for the director using Batman Begins for inspiration for a Terminator film that's been done countless times with movies.

Why don't they be smart and follow the story of salvation??? Recast Bale and show he becomes the real leader of the humans. They already gave us a clue to how he survives the war by us finding out that he has a heart from a machine.

agreed! T3 sucked arse! T4 was a worthy addition to the franchise. T3 should officially be negated and T4 should be the follow up to T2!
