Created by Dr. Naif Al-Mutawa and released August of 1007 by Teshkeel Comics, The 99 isn’t your ordinary superheros, there the First Muslim superheros and there about to branch out away from the comics and onto your TV set. The 99 is about a group of Teenagers and adults who have 99 special gemstones that contain the powers. The concept of The 99 is based on the 99 attributes of Allah. Many of these names refer to characteristics that can be possessed by human individuals. For example – generosity, strength, faithfulness, wisdom are all virtues encouraged by a number of faiths. The 99 will make its Debut on The Hub ( Formerly Discovery Kids) In January (2011).

This Highly criticized Muslim Superhero group was praised by President Obama for teaching kids to be tolerant of the Muslim faith. By saying “These Islamic butt-kickers are ready to bring truth, justice and indoctrination to impressionable Western minds,” she says, citing the aforementioned burqa requirement (”hair-hiding head scarves are mandatory for five characters, not including burqa babe Batina the Hidden“)

If Obama's endorsing it.... haha goodness. I doubt I'll watch it. He's just a celebrity like any other; he's not a President.
Just looks like a stupid show...

Sheesh, people are completely missing the point, the comic is "influenced" by Islamic virtues which are basically universal such as love, courage, strength, mercy ...etc

The religious backgrounds of the characters are left ambigious since many of the 99 team also include Western Cacausians like Miklos Szekelyhidi codename JAMI - THE ASSEMBLER and John Weller. This was made to make it more universal as Dr. Naif doesn't consider himself, uber conservatives nor uber liberal. And he has many times criticised radicals in debates..etc
