REVIEW: The Spider-Man Reboot Script

REVIEW: The Spider-Man Reboot Script

(This is NOT MY Review) Follow the jump to find out how the script for the controversial Spider-Man reboot possibly plays out...

Filed Under: Spider-Man

I was just searching through YouTube for G4's reaction to the news about the reboot just to pass the time when I came across this. Apparently, this guy got a sneak peek at the script by James Vanderbilt for the reboot.

In case you guys didn't know, Mr. Vanderbilt was responsible for writing the recently scrapped script for 'Spider-Man 4' and was also engaged by Sony to write for the fifth and sixth installments afterwards. After Raimi left, he wrote the script for the new 'gritty and contemporary' Spider-Man film.

Keep in mind this was from January 15th of this year. The day at which it was confirmed that 'Spider-Man 4' was scrapped was on January 13th, two days earlier. And James had already written the script before Sam pulled out since Sony wanted to reboot the series after the fourth endeavor.

Please, just humor me and listen.

If this guy is telling the truth then I really, really, really like what I'm hearing. I am hoping that what ever changes Alvin Sargent or Marc makes on the screenplay doesn't defeat the quality. Alvin co-wrote the past three Spidey films so there is no reason I shouldn't have any faith in him, especially with Mr. Webb directing.

To remind you all, I don't know whether this guy is telling the truth or not. I hope this doesn't diminish my credibility here in this site.

So sound off below. Do you think this guy is legitimate or do you think he was just trying to shut the barking fans up at the time.

@Everyone
Please inform me if this should be in the review section. And please, don't take it out on me based on your opinions. I just brought this up because I thought it was interesting so please forgive me.

@Average..I don't think this will diminish your credibility...just the video reviewer...I have faith in Webb and whoever the cast...its gonna cause a lot of rifts here but once we see the actual product it may change their tune

this sounds pretty good and ive heard things along these lines about the film

from what ive heard and deduced from the film is that the movie starts with peter already as spiderman, the villian is mysterio and the gwen stacy, maryjane and peter love triangle is a large part of the movie

@BlackAirsAki87
Thanks. :)
I do believe that Marc's involvement will make sure that the film doesn't get tampered with. And it is true, there are times when we think something will turn out bad but it flips over into something unexpected.

@sirawesome754
I'm glad you and everyone else so far are taking this positively. Mysterio would be interesting but I doubt he'd be the only villain from what the guy said. The love triangle would also be pretty good too.

@Dragonzord
Same here. When I heard him say that I just lit up with excitement. Knowing they'll go that route makes me feel all the more comfortable so long as none of it is changed too dramatically.

@ AverageCitizen99 sweet find weather it's true or not man!

on if he's right or not i hope that's the story but i hope it's more than a trilogy and i hope that marvel gets it in the cinematic universe! besides that nothing wrong so far as he said... just to explain why i don't want a trilogy is because (for spiderman especially) u just can't sum his whole story up that fast! i mean the first films only did 5 villains! even if they did some smaller and even doubled that that's only 10 villains! i don't want a spidey story summed up that fast sides i want the sinister six! and no they can't do that in 1 or 3 it has to be at least in 3 and after the 6 u have even more doors to open... it's not the end it's just the beginning! anyone agree with me? also love the spectacular spiderman

@bleedthefreak16
Thanks for all of the support from you and everyone. :)
You're all correct, it's not like I reviewed it. I just didn't take it like, "Oh my God! I'm going to get kicked out!" Though I did; as a 'What-If?' silly situation. I'm glad that your really stoked about it.

P.S.
Sorry. No clue on any open castings but I'm sure a casting call could be issued.

And I originally intended for this to be on the review section since I thought most people would shurk (if that is even a word) it off. But with how well this is doing I think it be best if it stayed under news. ;)

@MarvelCinematicUniverse
Here is to hoping this is real too. If this is legit then this will simmer down everyone's frustrations and negativity toward the project.

@otherside
Thanks bro! :)
I do hope that once Sony is finished with it that MARVEL will bring Spidey back home. But if this is a sign that Sony is going to show more respect towards the source material and the character(s) then I'm okay with them keeping him for a little while longer.

I am glad you've agreed with what he's said so far. So long as this trilogy is good I won't mind if all the villains from the past and recent times appear. Plus, he did say we could be getting multiple villains so the Sinister Six could be up there with the plans.

@averagecitizen99 well... i guess it's okay 2 have another spdiey universe out there but it's kinda boring me because like the spectacular spiderman show it's a great show (and i wish it had of gone on 4 more seasons instead of canceling it after only 2 seasons) but it just proves my point the reason of why to not have sony keep the rights to spidey! marvel had to reboot it because they want a new spidey show that can have crossovers with the shows they're putting out i'm pretty sure (the avengers show they're putting out black panther show they're putting out etc. (also i don't have any official info about the shows)) but after sony does the reboot and let's just say it was a trilogy, then hands it back to disney/marvel, they have to reboot it again to put it in the marvel cinematic universe! and i'm kinda getting tired of it... and yeah i'd love to see the Sinister six but in the marvel cinematic universe!
but great article dude!

i liked the review, and i hope it's true that it's good. i was looking at the ultimate spider-man essential 1 and was like woah. marc webb, im sure will do a good job. green goblin will be a villian in the this triliogy, cus norman made peter wat he is. the hero. it's got to be like the comics if this is to suceed. thats why rami's weren't all that great. not too close to the comics.
shocker's got to make a cameo. electro, rino, kraven, kingpin are so far villians that i know of that are likely candiates for this franchise. can't wait

@otherside
Thanks for the feedback. 'The Spectacular Spider-Man' was an awesome show! It was a great shame that they cancelled it. The creators said they had planned for it to go on for five seasons and they had already setted up Carnage, Hydro-Man, Scorpion, and Hobgoblin for future appearances. It especially would've been interesting as to how they would've approached the 'Night Gwen Stacy Died' storyline. RIP SSM :(

I don't think MARVEL would reboot it and start from scratch like Sony. Both are aware that if you have to retell a story from the beginning over and over again it is going to get ridiculous and make the character disinteresting. If MARVEL ever did make a Spider-Man film of their own I think it would just be an original story. That or they could incorporate him in say a 'Daredevil' film or a 'Marvel Knights' flick once they get the other rights back. There are a number of ways that they could approach this issue.

@kyle dalton
I'll cross my fingers to that. :)
The Ultimate Spider-Man and Spectacular Spider-Man series (animated or comic) both give the audience an idea of a realistic, or contemporary Spider-Man. Just picture 'KICK-ASS' the graphic novel minus the blood, profanity, sex and innuendo. Or 'the Dark Knight' but with Spider-Man in that it is going to be set in a realistic environment. Not a dark environment.

Oh God! I didn't mean anything from what I said up there to be of bad perceptions. It is just, as you pointed out, that this did come from of all places a social networking site. I, and everyone else, am so thankful to you for giving us this scoop. As I said, I didn't write this as a type of 'This Guy is Toying With Us' article. I am happy to have stumbled upon your video (as you can see above). I didn't even know you had an account here. Again, apologies if I came off as paranoid or rude.

I'm glad you understand. I never realized what a dark world getting and giving news could be. You've gone through a lot to give us the by-God facts and I salute you for it. As for the script, I don't think Marc is going to let Sony or Alvin screw it up. He just barely got his first film out, "(500) Days of Summer," which has garnered critical praise and had even gotten nominated for two Golden Globes. His career is just barely starting and I don't think that he would jeopardize it by making a crap film. And Alvin was involved in writing for the first two Spider-Man films so hopefully he follows Marc's orders more often than Sony's.

And don't worry, as much as I would love to I'm not going to squeeze you for more info on the script. Scripts go through various changes everyday when they're in production so who knows. Hopefully it will remain the same as it was.

P.S.

By the time you responded I was just about to do an update on this article about your response. Should I go ahead with that now?

Just a couple of questions if you don't mind. I'm not trying to be a badger or anything but I would like to know:

Which scene were you in on 'Spider-Man 3' and did you get to meet Topher?

I did say I wouldn't but ... What grade/rank/average would you give the certain and specific aspects of the script and the film as a whole?

I just want Green Goblin tossing Gwen off a damn bridge and Spidey breaking her neck trying to save her along with Spider-Man being the witty Wall-Crawler he is.

If this is true, and I hope it is, the reboot might not be a bad idea after all. I just really want it to be faithful to the comic, that's it.

@spiderman2o29: Please make an article on how bad the 4th movie was gonna be compared to the 3rd. Ive posted comments about it but no one seems to listen on this site.
They've all got there minds set that Raimi would have redeemed himself if they hadn't gone with the reboot.

@AverageCitizen99 hope ur right! still wish marvel had the rights back... if sony went along with the marvel cinematic universe then it would be alright but no trilogy's! has to be at least double that! never do the same thing as last time u should make 3 movies just the beginning not the end! that was the problem with the first SM trilogy, too much at once.

if this is real than the spidey movie is gonna rock! and i always liked peter and eddie as childhood friends. it would be good for them to have eddie and peter both work at the daily bugle and they have a friendly rivalry but as it goes on it gets worst.
