BIGBMH's Take on Batman: Part Five

BIGBMH's Take on Batman: Part Five

Part 5 of my take on the Batman franchise. In this article, I'll take a look at some of the little things that didn't exactly fit into the others.

There are a lot of things that aren't exactly major plot points, but I still feel would add to the movie.

New Batmobile: The Batmobile was destroyed during The Dark Knight. This provides the opportunity to update it and make it cooler. I don't really want to see a major change, but some new features and a new design would be cool. Maybe there could be multiple batmobiles. He could keep the Tumbler, but also have a sleeker stealthier model.

New Batsuit: A lot of people don't really like the armored look of the suit used in The Dark Knight. I didn't mind it, but it can be improved. Mobility is important. The second suit provided more range of motion than the first one. The new suit needs to still have good mobility as well as protection. Costume design isn't my strong suit so I really don't have much of an idea on how the suit should change. Like the Batmobile maybe they could use mutiple batsuits, like a normal and heavy duty.

Improved Batcave/mansion: At the end of Batman Begins, Bruce and Alfred were talking about making improvements on the area of Wayne Manor that connects to the Batcave. During The Dark Knight, the mansion was being repaired, so we didn't get to see any scenes in the Batcave. Without changing the natural feel, the cave should seem a bit more developed. It could have more equipment, a training area, a lab section, an armory, a garage to hold the tumbler and pod, etc. The mansion should have some sort of interesting way of accessing the cave.
The video game Batman Arkham Asylum features a preet cool version of the Batcave. Maybe elements from it can be taken for the new and improved Batcave (MINOR SPOILER ALERT! Arkham Asylum is an awesome game. If you haven't played it and want to, be warned there are some plot details in this video.)

Better Batman Voice: I just had to comment on it. I actually prefer Batman speaking with a raspy voice to the very plain voice previous actors used. It serves as a disguise and adds to the inhuman intimidation factor. However, a lot of people find it to be a bit cheesy and distracting. (leading to funny youtube parodies) I must admit, there is room for improvement. I've always loved Kevin Conroy's rendition from Batman the animated series. His Batman has a bit of distinction from Bruce Wayne, but it still sounds like a reasonable speaking voice. Bale could take some pointers from him. I'm not saying he should completely change it or that he should copy Conroy. However, maybe he should put a little less emphasis on the rasp and a little more on the deep tone. That subtle change could go a long way.

Introduce More Supporting Characters: It would probably be nice for the movie to include some more familiar characters. Their roles could range in importance, but just having them in would be nice. The three big ones that come to mind for me are Renee Montoya, Harvey Bullock, and Dr. Leslie Thompkins. Montoya and Bullock could show that more good and trustworthy cops are joining the GCPD. Bullock would be one of the people most interested in bringing Batman in. Montoya would work closely with Bullock. She's had experience with Batman and she doesn't fully believe that he would just turn into a killer so she might be looking to find the truth.

Thompkins would be brought in to help Bruce realize that he still has a family of people who care about him. At one point in the film he could sustain a serious injury (possibly shot). He would refuse to go to the hospital so Alfred would call in Dr. Thompkins because she's a long-time friend of the family. Naturally, once she finds out what Bruce has been doing and the state he's in, she'll want to make sure she's there to help him. By the end of the movie, Bruce will have a close circle of people he can trust including Jim Gordon, Lucious Fox, Alfred Pennyworth, Dick Grayson, and Leslie Thompkins. Without getting too sappy, he would realize that although he has felt alone, he now sort of has a family.

More good Jim Gordon material: I really like Jim Gordon and Gary Oldman has done a great job portraying him so far. I'd like to see more of him and the Gotham police department. He'll have to struggle between trying to steer the police away from hunting Batman and trying to avoid having suspicion cast upon himself. He knows Batman is doing good for the city and wants to help him, but he can't easily communicate with him anymore. Everyone already knows that he was involved with Batman before so any hint that he's still working with him would land him in deep trouble. He would lose his job, his reputation, and probably go to prison. He has to keep everyone convinced that he is actually trying to catch Batman. The whole situation is putting a lot of stress on him and making his life difficult. Both he and Batman are having a really hard time so I think at one point they should take it out on each other and have a big argument. By the end they'll make up and hopefully the relationship will go back to normal.

The hunt for Batman has to end somehow. In order to do so, Batman will have to regain the trust and respect of the city. That probably would mean that everyone finds out the truth about Harvey Dent. For their final scene together, I would use a scene from Batman: Year One. In this scene, (altered for the movie) the police are coming to a location where something has happened (possibly the true location of the Riddler)Batman is unmasked, and Gordon is the only one close enough to see who he is. For some reason, his glasses have fallen off. Gordon looks Bruce right in the face, and tells him "You know, I'm practically blind without my glasses." They exchange a smile that shows that they've moved from allies to friends. Bruce turns to leave, but stops, turns around, and says to Gordon "I never said thank you." Gordon smiles and replies "And you'll never have to." Bruce runs off, and Gordon stays back to wait for the rest of the police to show up. Their final words to each other are a repeat of their lines at the end of Batman Begins with the roles reversed. I think it would be a nice touch. Gordon finding out that Bruce is Batman would be a nice place to end the story of their relationship for this trilogy. This would most likely be the final scene with Bale and Oldman as Batman and Gordon so it's really important to get it right.

Doesn't this picture look like Batman is thinking "He he! I never get tired of sneaking up on Jim!"?
While Gordon is thinking "I know that jack@$$ is around here somewhere!"

Wow! Thanks a lot! This is pretty much the end of my ideas for this movie. However, I've written one more section that I'm in the process of editing that talks about the future of the franchise beyond this movie. I should have it up either tonight or tomorrow.

Good way of not changing his raspy voice (coz it wouldnt make sense to change it) would be just to speak less when dressed as Batman. I like that about Keaton's Batman- very little dialogue.
That, to me, is Batman: reticent and menacing.

Like I said, if they change it, it should only be a subtle change. Some people have commented that it was worse in The Dark Knight than it was in Batman Begins. I didn't notice a change, so if there was a change it was pretty small.

Well done, this is brilliant... I love poignant scenes like the one you wrote as Batman and Gordon's last, really helps bring the movie full circle. And, since it's full circle, I think another great character to include would be Talia Ducard, who becomes Bruce's romantic interest and is then revealed as the mastermind behind whatever other villain(s) are included in the film, revealing herself as Talia Al Ghul, the new leader of the League of Shadows.
That would give an even greater meaning to the "family" idea you came up with, as Bruce would really need them after a betrayal like that

Seriously though, I agreed with EVERYTHING in this article, which I've never done before. Well done

@ACira, Thank a lot! (sorry for the delayed response) It seems like they're definitely going to have a major female character in this so Talia would probably be the best choice.
