Tom Welling Isn't Being Courted By Marvel

Despite recent reports that the Smallville star was being looked at by Marvel (specifically for Doctor Strange), sources close to the actor confirms that Welling isn't up for a role under Marvel, or at least right now...

Recently, What's Playing.com.au reported that Tom Welling - who portrayed Clark Kent in the recently ended Smallville series - was already being looked at by Marvel for a role in one of their films, and the site assumed that Marvel was interested in him playing Doctor Strange. However, Superman Super Site is confirming that, despite these reports, sources close to the actor shot down the rumor. Here's what they're saying:

Sources close to Welling have quickly shot down this rumor stating that "Welling isn't up for Doctor Strange, and hasn't been approached for any Marvel property yet but that doesn't mean there isn't interest in him."

There may be another superhero project in the future for Welling but will audiences be able to shake the image of him as Clark Kent that's been ingrained in their minds for the past 10 years? At this point, only time will tell.

Would you be interested in seeing Tom Welling play a Marvel character? If so, which one?

I knew it was just a rumor, having him as Doctor Strange is like casting Christian Bale as Wolverine. And I agree @Hellsing, Johnny Depp would be a far better choice. Joseph Fiennes isn't a bad choice either.

Johnny Depp is Doctor Strange lol. While Joseph Fiennes is a great Merlin I don't see him as Doctor Strange.

deep would be a good choice but the dude needs to keep him self in check or who ever the director would be the movie and not let him play some weird quirky version of dr. strange (its gonna be interesting to see how he plays the vampire dude from dark shadows).

Tom Welling is a brutal actor. He doesn't deserve to be the star of a tv series, much less the main lead in big screen film.

Johnny Depp just got paid 55 million for the 4th pirates movie. I would rather Marvel hire a guy for 4-8 million or less and spend more of the budget on the actual movie.

Can the mere presence of Depp as the lead be enough to make a Dr. Strange film Haul in an extra 100 million? Since studios only receive about 50% of the Gross ticket sales back then it would have to. Example if a film costs 150 mil to make it needs to gross 300 mil to break even, assuming box office as the only source of income.

Depps recent track record is pretty good.

Pirates 1: Budget 140 mil Gross 654 Mil
Pirates 2: Budget 225 Mil Gross 1 Billion
Pirates 3: budget 300 mil Gross 963 mil
Pirates 4 Budget 150-250 mil Gross 400 mil and counting

Rango (Voice only) Budget 135 mil Gross 240 mil

The tourist: Budget 100 mil Gross 292 mil.

Alice in Wonderland: Budget 150-200 mil Gross 1 Billon

Public Enemies: Budget 100 mil Gross 214 mil.

Sweeney Todd: Budget 50 Mil Gross 152 mil

Charlie and the Chocolate factory: Budget 120 mil Gross 475 Mil.

Finding Neverland: Budget 25 Mil Gross 118 Mil

What do you guys think? Would Depp be worth 50 mill to a Dr Strange movie?

I watched all 10 seasons of Smallville almost religiously. I had a love-hate relationship with the series like most fans...Having said that, after watching Tom Welling for 10 years, it's beyond clear that he cannot act. Sorry Tom, but it's true.

I like Johnny Depp.

He's been in a lot of movies.

He can act pretty good.

I'll say it again, he's been in A LOT of movies.

But he certainly has a great look for Dr. Strange.

So I'd say go with him, someone else or once again a no namer that can act!

Welling won't ever be in a CBM because he isn't a fan of comics and would never wear a suit...EVER.
