While this may not be the first time that the highly successful Ben 10 cartoon will be adapted to live media, it will be the first to hit the big screen. Joel Silver - who produced films such as Sherlock Holmes, V For Vendetta, and the Matrix trilogy - has been hired to 'develop' the big screen adaptation. Variety broke the story recently, and here's what they have to say...

Joel Silver has signed on to develop a live-action feature film based on Cartoon Network's Ben 10 sci-fi franchise, with an eye toward distribution through Warner Bros.

"I cannot think of anyone better suited than Joel Silver to develop a theatrical action-driven adventure based on our franchise Ben 10," said Stu Snyder, chief operating officer of Turner's animation, young adults and kids media division.

Dark Castle's Steve Richards (who has signed on to produce with fellow shingle co-prexy Andrew Rona and Silver) said that the bigscreen version of Ben 10 would be completely recast from the character's previous live-action incarnations, and that the producers want to go as big as possible with the project.

"We really see this as a large, big-budgeted tentpole movie," Richards said.

Silver and Dark Castle are currently seeking writers for Ben 10.

So would you want to see a live action feature film based off of the Ben 10 series? Or should Hollywood just stop adapting cartoons into live action? Sound off your thoughts below.

I like the show, but the original two live action movies suck, mainly because of the small budget. If the big screen version does get made, it would probably be pretty good.

What the hell ever happened to the live action Johnny Quest film that was in development. Last I heard, Dwayne Johnson was in the running to play as Race and nothing else after that. Ben 10 had 2 chances to make a decent live action flick and it failed in both. BRING MORE OF MY CLASSIC CARTOONS TO LIFE!

Ben 10 the original was awesome i so loved that show, its up there with my top favorite cartoons of all times.

But Alien Force and Ulitmate Alien is TOTAL CRAP. They're just milking the series and although I wanted a sequel to the original i didn't wanted it to be that. The quality in everything fell from the animation & character designs to the writing and lack of humor. Those new series just suck ass so much

Anyway, topic at hand: Ben 10 has already (sort of) worked as two tv movies, so theres your proof of concept. Bigger budget, better cast, id have no problem w/ a big screen movie. My only question: why did it take Hollywood so long to realize the potential here?

@alexdelarge87 - the real ghostbusters cartoon was loosely based off the actual Ghostbusters movies if im correct...The Toxic Avenger was a low budget movie before it was turned into a cartoon aswell...if you remember the killer tomatoes cartoon that was also a film before a cartoon..... and there is already a Flash Gordon tv show...i think its finished because it was crap.lol
