Marvel has announced that writer Matt Fraction and artist David Aja are set to reunite for an ongoing series starring none other than Hawkeye/Clint Barton, which begins its run this August. The two are collaborating for the first time since their work on Immortal Iron Fist with Ed Brubaker. Below are comments from Aja and Fraction, as well as the covers for the first two issues in the series.

“Hawkeye was one my favorite characters when I was a kid,” Aja recalls. “One of the first Marvel comics I read was AVENGERS #25, and I [fell] in love with [the] guy; he acted as real person, was a complete jerk, so I suppose I identified with him.”

“Never had the chance to write a character like him, or to do a book like this before,” Fraction divulges. “And I wanted to chronicle him in an ongoing series because it'd keep me from getting bored. Repetition bores me to death. I had this idea for how to do a book that wasn't like anything else we'd seen him in before, wasn't like anything I'd done before, and couldn't stop thinking about.”

“Hawkeye is more about what inspires Clint Barton,” Fraction explains, “We got Clint in AVENGERS, SECRET AVENGERS, and anywhere else at any given time—but we wanted HAWKEYE to be about what Clint does when he's not at work, about what drives the guy. He's got some stuff coming up in [Avengers Vs. X-Men] and afterwards he's in a place where he's gotta figure out what he's doing with himself and why. What moves him, what's meaningful for him.”

"I’m thinking lately I'm going more iconic, more cartoony. You know, less is more," Aja sayss. "Your style evolving is the perfect excuse when you are cutting corners. Note to self: remember to do lot of black silhouettes and black panels.”

Do you plan on checking out the new Hawkeye series when it begins this August?

The look almost has a 60's disco vibe, which I oddly like. Not keen on look of purple v on top would liked to have seen a more practical looking outfit.

Hmmm, not sure what to read. There's AvX, DD, Avenging Spider-Man, and others. But seeing as how I don't have the luxury of money, I'm just gonna have to wait it out 'til they come down to a reasonable price for me. :)

Stay EPIC, my friends!

Also, not really liking Hawkeye's costume here. It looks too much like the Ultimates' one to me. But, oh well.

I thought Hawkeye and Mockingbird was good. I wish it hadnt gotten cancelled. Fraction's writing isnt always a sure thing, but he did some good work on Invincible Iron Man and Immortal Iron Fist. As much as I dig Hawkeye and David Aja, I know this is going to be a $4 book and I just cant do it. Maybe in trade down the road.

marvel has not done a good job recently using new villians, usually just recycling old ones. Hopefully since this is a new series, we will get to see some new guys enter the field, Hawkeye needs some new nemesis

Thought Secret Avengers would be his book. Looks cool. I'll probably pick up the first issue and if i love it i'll keep picking it up. If it's $3.99 i'll probably have to pass.

well this is no surprise. I'm not that too interested with the title despite the talent behind it. Hawkeye is more suited for leading a team or being a back-up character. His issue in Avenging Spider-man was interesting but also kind of boring. SPOILER ALERT: Hawkeye constantly trains at getting a perfect bullseye everytime because he has to be on target or else he is just some guy with a bow. I understand expanding his character but I'm sure in his entire comic career he has missed or his arrows not been effective.
