CinemaCon: RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES Sequel A Go

It appears that 20th Century Fox is looking to begin production on the sequel to last year's Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes by the end of the summer, potentially for a 2013 release.

Today, 20th Century Fox held their CinemaCon 2012 panel. Amidst debuting new footage from Taken 2 and Neighborhood Watch, Fox Co-Chairman/Chief Creative Officer of Fox Filmed Entertainment Tom Rothman hinted that we may be soon see a sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes, a reboot of the popular franchise released last year to critical acclaim. A list of movies that the studio is planning on beginning production on this year has been revealed. One of those movies mentioned were the Apessequel. Also on the list were The Wolverine and Robocalypse.

Coming Soon speculates that Fox may schedule the sequel as its third summer 2013 movie, or the more open fall/winter slate. Additionally, the studio hasn't confirmed that director Rupert Wyatt will be returning (despite his postponing work on Londongrad in case Fox decides to fast track Apes 2), and star Andy Serkis may be busy working on The Hobbit this fall (although he has signed on for the sequel).

Do you want to see a sequel to Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes in the near future? Be sure to check back for more news on the sequel.

Interesting. If they're planning on releasing the movie in Summer 2013, I think it'll be a mistake though. One year is rushing it. And that's not to say that a good film can't be made in that span of time. I think X-Men First Class turned out okay. But, I also think it could've been better had Fox given Vaughn more time. Instead, what they gave him was limitless resources to sprint to the finish line. IMHO, that's not the best way to make a movie.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes exceeded my expectations on every level. I just want its sequel to be given time to reach its potential.

I agree, releasing it next summer would definitely be rushing it. A fall/winter release would be better, if they're going to begin production this year.

Am I seriously the only person who thought that this was a bad movie?? James Franco is awful. They did not utilize John Lithgow on any level. There's no explanation as to why all of the zoo apes followed Caesar and his gang when they did NOT receive the treatment.

And what was the deal with the hyper-nosey pilot neighbor? Pilots are NEVER home. They are constantly travelling and therefore he never would have been getting in everybody's face in the middle of the day.

@QuietStorm, I watched it twice last weekend.

James Franco - horrible
Draco Malfoy kid - horrible
Why did Caesar turn all gangster at one point?? The 600Lb gorilla became his bodyguard prior to being exposed to the drug. And the Orangutan was also super smart prior to the drug... he was using sarcasm while talking in sign language! And what was that alpha ape's problem with Caesar? I was waiting for him to give him a wedgie or something...

I'm feeling very alone on this... so very alone.
