According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hugh Laurie (best known for his starring role in House) is in negotiations to play the villain in Disney's secret science fiction film Tomorrowland. Brad Bird (The Incredibles, Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol) is directing from a script by Damon Lindelof and Jeff Jensen, with George Clooney set to star. All that is known about Laurie's character is that he is the film's antagonist. The actor was in talks for the villain role in the RoboCop reboot last year, but was replaced by Michael Keaton after negotiations broke down. While the plot is currently unknown, Tomorrowland is described as being in the vein of Steven Spielberg's Close Encounters Of The Third Kind, in which a man searches for extra-terrestrials on Earth. The film, which was previously titled 1952 until a couple weeks ago, is set to hit theaters December 19th, 2014.

This is the big trend... getting modern day versions of Sherlock Holmes to play your villain. Johnny Lee Miller is next.

No the modern trend is to get the latest British actor to play a villain in your movie oh wait its not that new, Alan Rickman started this shit. Hell its been done in one of the greatest film of all time Lion King (don't hate bitch's) the villain was voice by a Brit whilst Mufasa was voiced by a James Earl Jones.
