When legions of monstrous creatures, known as Kaiju, started rising from the sea, a war began that would take millions of lives and consume humanity’s resources for years on end. To combat the giant Kaiju, a special type of weapon was devised: massive robots, called Jaegers, which are controlled simultaneously by two pilots whose minds are locked in a neural bridge. But even the Jaegers are proving nearly defenseless in the face of the relentless Kaiju. On the verge of defeat, the forces defending mankind have no choice but to turn to two unlikely heroes—a washed up former pilot and an untested trainee —who are teamed to drive a legendary but seemingly obsolete Jaeger from the past. Together, they stand as mankind’s last hope against the mounting apocalypse.

For even more on Pacific Rim (including an in-depth chat with director Guillermo del Toro), be sure to pick up the latest issue of Total Film.

Pacific Rim stars Charlie Hunnam, Idris Elba, Rinko Kikuchi, Charlie Day and Ron Perlman. The film is set to hit theaters July 12th.

It just doesn't ring true that we would have to build giant robots to kill giant monsters when manned-aircraft or drones could do the job.

@Greengo, it's just a figure of speech that will catch people's attention to pick up the magazine and see the film. But it's sure as hell not the biggest sci-fi blockbuster.

The concept art looks very great! This film teases of what a great Voltron film would've been close to looking like.

@pintoman guess you didn't see the part in the trailer where a fighter jet was no bigger than one of the creatures fingernail and did no damage to it

Yeah that's true. Thy're trying to relate the story to audiences on some more familiar level... mi comprende.

NO DOUBT. forget Iron Man 3..forget Thor 2..and sure as hell forget the Wolverine.

2013 is between Man of Steel and PACIFIC RIM. period.

as long as both movies would actually be as great (if not more than) as the trailers.

Really looking forward to it. A live action Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 should be next in the giant robot line.
