Drew Karpyshyn Addresses STAR WARS: KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC Movie Rumor

After a rumor last night suggested that Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic writer Drew Karpyshyn was working on a movie adaptation of the hit game, he now says that he hasn't heard anything about such a film.

Last night, a rumor went online saying that among the many Star Wars film projects in development at Disney/LucasFilm was an adaptation of the hit RPG Knights Of The Old Republic. The rumor stated that Drew Karpyshyn, who wrote the game as well as its sequel and The Old Republic, was working on the script. However, the writer has now taken to his Twitter account to address this rumor.

Of course, this doesn't necessarily mean that a Knights Of The Old Republic movie isn't in the works, as a different screenwriter could be penning such a project. Of course, the only Star Wars film that is in active development is J.J. Abrams' Episode VII, which may hit theaters in 2015. It has also been confirmed that, in addition to a new trilogy, stand-alone films will be released every 2-3 years. Various characters spin-offs such as Yoda, Han Solo and Boba Fett have all been suggested. Do you want to see a Knights Of The Old Republic movie?

@CCB1984: To be fair, Abrams was probably serious when he said that he wasn't directing. Then Kathleen Kennedy persuaded him.

@TheHawkWithin The sites arent responsible. Just like the sites arent responsible when pages of a comic Marvel is desperate to promote mysteriously get leaked to BleedingCool and then reposted on other sites.
Its Disney doing whatever they can to build up interest in fans.
Notice its happening more with every film associated with Disney more than any other studio.

And think about this, its a way for Marvel, the guys at the top in sales, to keep better comics from smaller publishers such as the New Valiant or Dynamite from getting articles. Why would a writer search for a topic when Marvel keeps giving them leaked pages and spoilers?
So this method can promote and keep attention off the competition at the same time.

I LOVE KOTOR, like it's nobody's business but mine. As in:

That said, it would never work out as a movie without some EXTENSIVE changes.

Bastila would be one of the worst movie characters EVER. Flawed, absolutely, but at the same time too perfect and convenient. Her "battle meditation" for instance, doesn't make sense outside the gaming world. Also, there's just not enough information (for people who didn't read the comics, which I just don't care about because they undermine everything) about their mission to Taris. BioWare has a REPUTATION for starting their games off on some glittering planet/village, and burning it all to the ground by the end of the first act. What exactly was the Republic hoping to achieve by sending the personification of their war effort to a Sith-occupied planet that no one really cares about?

Carth is one of the most relatable characters in the game, but it wouldn't be the same if they took away his trust issues - and you know they would. He's the kind of character who you either love or hate, or BARELY tolerate - they'd want you to like him.

Revan is also a problem.... do I even need to explain why?

A KotoR movie would absolutely rock! - hard!.
Who wouldn't want a movie based on that story but done like the TOR videos (Hope, Deceived etc) that Blur Studios did. Either animated just like that or live-action - Kotor would be ripe for a great story.

MASTERHATER!!!
I'm right there with ya! BANE is the best damn Star Wars series!
And Drew Karpyshyn is writing the script?!!!?!??!!......

"Will Disney go with the Bane story?

The BANE story is (DJ LANCE ROCK )= AWESOME!!
but a bit dark.
Could Disney grow some balls and rock out DARK SIDE story?

If Karpyshyn is writing the script, and J.J. Abrahms is directing?!? This will be a brilliant Fraking movie!

"OOH-DAH LOLLIE! hope this rumor is true."

I don't really like to call the Old Republic games prequels.

Because although it's still Star Wars and it takes place before the original trilogy, it really doesn't have any ties to the Skywalker movies.

Combine an Old Republic movie with a young Yoda. So we'd have a character we already know that ties the movie to the main series (E1-), but could still go 900 years back in time.
