RUMOR: David S. Goyer Hired To Write MAN OF STEEL Sequel

With Warner Bros.' plans for a Justice League film looking uncertain, the studio is rumored to be accelerating development on a sequel to this summer's Man Of Steel with David S. Goyer back on board to pen the script.

It was recently reported that reaction to early Man Of Steel screenings have been very positive, with some even calling the Zack Snyder-directed Superman reboot the best movie of the year. Assuming that the film is a big hit for Warner Bros., it would make perfect sense that the studio would release a follow-up shortly afterwards. A Justice League film has been in development, but with screenwriter Will Beall's script reportedly scrapped, the DC Comics ensemble's future is currently unknown. However, according to Think Mcfly Think, WB is accelerating development on a direct sequel to Man Of Steel. David S. Goyer, who wrote the script for the first film, is said to be on board for the follow-up. As for Justice League, some rumblings claim that it's still a priority, while others say that it's now on hold. Keep in mind that none of this has been officially confirmed, and could very well be false. Stay tuned to CBM for more news as we have it.

Man Of Steel stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne and Russell Crowe. The film is set to hit theaters June 14th, 2013.

I would love to see the next one deal with Lex Luthor and Brainiac. It is about time Lex gets to be shown like he is in the comics and not the dumb idiot like in the past Superman films.

Good. I like Goyer.

Goyer is very hit and miss, he's usually good when he's with someone competent I.e. Nolan, del toro. But when he's on his own he's bad.

Good, this will most likey make budget in weekend one and if Goyer can be inspired to write a sequel that's as good this one looks...

Good job, WB! First good thing you've done for Superman in a while...

I'd say Parasite and Lex Luthor. Save Brianiac for the 3rd film. Especially if they already deal with an alien invasion in the first.

@ Spideyguy94 - True, let's hope Nolan stays on to reign both those clowns in.

Snyder too, someone needs to ground him.

@ Dynamo - Me, personally, I'd like to see Superman face off against the Elite in a Live Action adaption of "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?"

you know how people say that superman is "too powerful" or somehow he is LESS interesting because of all his powers?

i never agreed with that. EVER. it's like the OPPOSITE. all those powers is AWESOME.

it would be like a guy complaining that his girlfriend was "too hot".
imagine a guy, who says: " my girlfriend- i just can't relate...she is beautiful- gorgeous face, lovely hair, mesmerizing eyes, stunning body- AND - she's smart! ...uuuggghh... i want to dump her and go out with a dumb skank so i can 'relate' better".

dumb@$$e$.

this is probably not even a "rumor"- just an easy speculation. ANY tentpole film is going to have a sequel considered if it makes enough $$$. and goyer/nolan probably had a treatment in place for more films when they turned in the MOS script.
CavEl
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 11:56 AM
I think Snyder's style is well suited for "What's So Funny About Truth, Justice & the American Way?" because of the desaturation he often implements in his films can make for a very dark world.

Plus, both him and Goyer have both expressed their desire to knock Supes of the stool and drag him through the mud and no other story does that as well as Action Comics 775.

@JAKE-

action #775 would be an excellent basis for a superman movie. i think there was a follow-up to it as well.

also- i'd do anything for a combination of the 90's "warworld/EXILE" storyline and the classic "for the man who has everything" by alan moore.

that'd be AWESOME.

I want a JL movie but I rather see Wonder Woman & The Flash in solo movies first.

@ malcopunch

BOTH!!!

supergirl could be tied into BRAINIAC (like the superb geoff johns story)
and superboy could be connected to lex luthors superman-clone/bizzaro experiments.

Well if MOS is good and he helped write it, this would make sense.

@79: How about Parasite, Live Wire, or Mongul for the villain?
RMN666
RMN666 - 2/28/2013, 12:01 PM
@ Dynamo In general I think superman is going to be mainly fighting alien invaders especially in the movies.
CavEl
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:02 PM
Oh, and if they use the Elite the title is simple...

World without a Superman.

@ Malcopunch - Nah, no Supergirl. I want to see Superman struggle, and both Kara and Clark are more intresting by themselves. Together, they no fun.
CavEl
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:06 PM
@ JorL5150 - "For the man who has everything" would be great as a Justice League movie sequel, but as a Superman tale?

Nahhh, keep in mind Supes only does stuff at the end of that book, it would get boring watching him just stand there.
Durf
Durf - 2/28/2013, 12:07 PM
@79: yeah I think he would be pretty awesome. It would be another one Supes would have to actually work to defeat

I hope to God they scale back the stupid in these Superman films. He's so long been a sort of hard infinite trump card (NOBODY is more powerful than Superman); but he wasn't that originally, he just got inflated as DC competitively gave him the same powers as every other superhero coming out over the years. But when an entity is that all-powerful, the concept of challenge and conflict just becomes a joke (and even Kryptonite can't save him, because that just becomes stupidly repetitive too) and the whole thing just becomes a snoozefest (unless Grant Morrison handles it :) ).

But I do have high hopes for the film. It looks like a great team, and the trailers have been beautiful (e.g. best implementation of super-flight I've ever seen in a superhero film).

Fingers and toes crossed! It's great how all the superhero films coming out are raising the quality bar higher and higher - great for all of us who are fans of the superhero/s-f mythos as the real modern mythology.
CavEl
CavEl - 2/28/2013, 12:12 PM
@ Malcopunch - Silly question, every hero can beat every villain. Batman outsmarted Darkseid before, but Batman only has an IQ of 216. Darkseid is a god.

Heroes are supposed to beat villains.

Goyer is DC's guy. I don't see why they wouldn't have him in there on the sequel.

@MrMxyzptlk

I am not convinced that an actor Christopher Meloni path you are given a character like "Colonel Hardy". ...

ie where does that character, unless as Rachel Dawes and even Det. "Robin" John Blake not justification

at least until after seeing the movie and solve all my questions

but for now believe that it is a strategy to cover up the "real Lex Luthor" until proven otherwise

also in many film set photos appeared quite "bald" although military had

took ideas from Tim Burton's Superman and Lex Luthor turned into a CIA agent as well as rumored in that movie, it seems

@MrMxyzptlk
