Guillermo Del Toro On The Possibility Of A PACIFIC RIM/GODZILLA Crossover

Pacific Rim director Guillermo del Toro shares his thoughts on a possible crossover film with Legendary's Godzilla reboot, saying that he would love to see it happen even though the two films appear to have different directions.

Currently, Legendary Pictures has two giant monster related films coming out - Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim on July 12th, and Gareth Edwards' Godzilla reboot on May 16th, 2014. Both films will be released in 3D. Since Godzilla engages in monstrous battles on a regular basis, could we see the Jaegers from Pacific Rim take him on? Collider asked del Toro about the possibility of a Pacific Rim Vs. Godzilla crossover film, and he says that (obviously) there are no plans for such a movie. He does, however, say that he would love to see it happen, but the two different approaches to the films ("super bright and saturated" for Pacific Rim, and dark and grounded for Godzilla) may cause difficulties in properly placing in the same epic.

"So far with the [Pacific Rim] sequel, what we’re writing, what we’re creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the [frick] out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain. But I don’t think there are plans on that. I don’t even know what direction they’re taking Godzilla in. I know somewhat that it’s grounded differently. Pacific Rim, my aspiration was, the color, the saturation of color, was almost an acid-drip version of the heavy-metal coloring that I loved when Richard Corben was working there, when [Jean-Claude] Forest was working there. Super bright, super saturated, the crazy color and aesthetic. And Godzilla is more realistic, somewhat. That’s my thinking. That’s what I’ve heard. I don’t even know which way they’re going."

I would not, sir. Not everything has to cross over. Have we learned nothing from Seinfeld on the worlds theory? Nay I say. Nay.

I kind of want both the Pacific Rim series and the Godzilla series to expand their series before doing crossovers. Like it would be cool for the Pacific Rim sequel to show the origins of the Kaiju and for the jaegers to actually go to wherever the Kaijus came from. As for Godzilla, I want to see the American series invent new monsters to fight in the sequels but they could bring in some classics, too. Would be a cool crossover, though.

Oh my god. That would have been so awesome begin with.

The portal opens from Pacific and monsters start destroying Earth. In near future human beings have build the giant robots as the protectors of mankind. But still they are not strong enough to beat the raging monsters. Then in some huge scientific laboratory. Governments has been making secret experiments with Monster DNA to create the ultimate beast which would be under their control. Enter Godzilla. This beast should help them to vanish the monsters once and for all but OF COURSE something goes wrong and Godzilla becomes too powerful people cant control it. And there we have a ultimate showdown on Earth. Godzilla acts violently against the monsters and Mankind.
That would make enough stuff for even Trilogy. :)

Godzilla vs the jaegers. that would be a ten minute movie.

5 minutes of Godzilla swimming/walking to where the jaegers are.

3 minutes of Godzilla obliterating all the jaegers.

2 minutes of Godzilla destroying tokyo just for for kicks, end credits.
