BOX OFFICE: MAN OF STEEL Opens With Super $21M In Thursday Night Showings

Despite rather mixed reviews, Man Of Steel is guaranteed to be one of the highest grossing films of the year. Predictions for the film's opening weekend have been all over the place, with Warner Bros. predicting $80M and box office observers expecting $85-100M (if not more). Now, the Zack Snyder-directed reboot has taken in a super (pun intended) Thursday night gross. Man Of Steel opened in midnight showings with $9M, and combined with WB and Walmart's special screenings taking in $12M, the movie has made $21M last night. This is higher than Iron Man 3's $15.6M gross when the Marvel threequel opened last month, and this brings Steel in third place on the highest late-night grosses list (behind Harry Potter & The Deathly Hallows Part 2's $43.5M and The Dark Knight Rises' $30.6M). Of course, this is fantastic news for DC Comics fans, as Man Of Steel is expected to kick off a DC movie universe. Will you be seeing Superman's latest big screen outing this weekend?

Thursday night (7PM) showings don't count towards the midnight showing. So it's not third time. 9 million is the figure that needs to go into the rankings.

Glad its doing well - I'd hardly say Thor a thespians delight of a movie but I loved it and it managed to keep me entertained through 2 viewings which is rare for me. I'm sure MOS will be great also and my tickets have been booked for weeks. More CBM the merrier I say. Or maybe we should all go watch After Earth..? We live in a great time when I was a kid I dreamed of seeing LOTR and CBM as movies like we have now and nobody would make them. And now I do.

Hands down the best showing of Superman's in all his glory... So Amazing and epic. I'm still picking up my jaw from last night showing. Henry is now my favorite Superman. If you are one of the trolls that are trolling and says it sucks without even seeing it... I bet you if you went and see it you might be blown away...
jerryblake
jerryblake - 6/14/2013, 8:11 AM
@Jollem

ok, that's like Iron Man 3 (5,25) + MOS (9,5) divided by Jerry = probably 7 to 8/10 in my book
