Disney XD's STAR WARS: REBELS Animated Series To Star A Group Of Teenagers

Yesterday we heard some details on Disney XD's upcoming Star Wars animated series, subtitled Rebels, and now a new report reveals that the majority of the protagonists will be teenagers.

Not too long ago, Lucasfilm announced that a new animated series titled Star Wars: Rebels will premiere on Disney XD next year. Focusing on the formation of the Rebel Alliance, the show will take place in between Episodes III and IV, and yesterday we heard that it will focus on new characters as well as familiar faces from the legendary franchise. Now, Bleeding Cool reports some more info on the series. The subtitle "Rebels" applies to the main characters (unsurprisingly), and the majority of these protagonists are said to be teenagers. Before you get too worried, Bleeding Cool notes that, despite the show being aimed at a younger audience, none of these characters are expected to be on the same level as someone like Jar-Jar Binks. Instead, they're "just a lot of youthful protagonists being teens at the same time as sci-fi heroes." What do you think of this news? And will you be watching Star Wars: Rebels on Disney XD next year?

Will this also be cancelled for no apparent reason like Clone Wars was?

Thanks Disney.

I have a bad feeling about this show.... Disney has "dumb down" all their cartoons.... This cartoon will be something on the lines of Ultimate Spiderman and Avengers Assemble.... A kiddie version of Clone Wars.

"just a lot of youthful protagonists being teens at the same time as sci-fi heroes."

What does that mean? In between space battles and gunfights, they pull flower peddles and say "she loves me...she loves me not"?

If it's about the birth of the rebellion then characters like Bail Organa and Mon Mothma well have to appear...I'm assuming.

Uhm...That's ok, as long as it's not like twilight, and they need to be badass, I mean really badass or people are gonna complain no matter what.

@JerBear I've been optimistic about Disney and Star Wars, but if it's not like Young Justice, I'm going to be a little iffy about the whole transition.

Especially considering that I loved the Clone Wars series.

@fettastic I believe 'Star Wars: The Force Unleashed' was set in between episodes III and VI.

Yeah, Wedge could easily be one of the main teenage characters

Actually Wedge is a few years older than Luke, but weve got 19 years to play with here so he could still be a teenage protagonist

@JerBear I really liked Young Justice, so that'sa good thing

I believe that setting them up as teenager there might be a possibility to see teen Han solo, teen Chewie, teen Boba

btw i really liked the episodes centered around younglings this last season of the clone Wars, obviously they need to sell toys, so aimed to kids, but still theCloneWars did a great job

@SotoJuiceMan Even though It's on Disney XD, I'm still putting my faith in David Filoni and Greg Weisman.

Those two guys know how to make some cartoons.

Greg Weisman is known for creating animated series that are more mature, intelligent and complex than the average animated series. That's what he's been doing for nearly 20 years. I doubt Disney would hire him to run their show if they wanted a "kiddie" version of Star Wars. As much of a fan of the property as he may be, I doubt he would accept a job on a show where he would be required to "dumb" down his work and not produce material of the caliber he's accustomed to.

With both Dave Filoni and Greg Weisman as executive producers/showrunners, I'm banking on getting a show that will feel like a blend of The Clone Wars and Young Justice.

Yeah, before anyone complains..A New Hope (as written) had two 19 year olds (Luke and Leia) and a late 20-something (Han)
darkspark
darkspark - 6/20/2013, 12:11 PM
so this is Ultimate Star Wars then? Are they going to give Luke some Iron Vader armor in an episode?

Complaining knee-jerk style about this isn't constructive when

A.)Fandom is fickle. We complain now then if the product is good, we claim we have supported it from the very start.

B.) The original Trilogy featured two teens and a 20 something.

C.) This is the same team that brought you The Clone Wars. While it's funny to see images of Bieber as Han, it's also short-sighted if you take it seriously.

A person is considered a teenager until they turn 20, so the characters might not be as young as people think.

The only thing that has me excited is Dave Filoni returning to direct. I can't imagine this being as dark as the Clone Wars though being it's on XD. However I can't say I really watch the channel so I don't know how kiddie their programming is.

Cant stand it when the majority of cast for animated or live action shows are youth based.
Even when I was aid I hated that crap..in comics young sidekicks were annoying.

Loved it when Robin was beat down with a crowbar then blown up by the Joker.
Ahhh..memories.
