SUPERHERO FEATS: Thor

SUPERHERO FEATS: Thor

As many might know, Thor is my favorite superhero of all time. So, I just thought I would share some amazing feats that Thor has displayed over the years.

Feature Opinion

I thought I'd break down his feats into several categories to make it more easier to read. Hope you enjoy!

Godlike Strength
1. Thor arm-wrestles Hercules to a draw, causing the area to collapse and shifting the planet out of orbit.

2. In probably his most famous strength feat, Thor lifts the Midgard Serpent, which is said to be half or just as heavy as the planet Earth itself.

3. Resists the gravimetic pressure equal to the weight of a neutron star.

4. Pushes the WorldEngine in order to reserve Yggdrasil the World Tree.

5. Accidentally knocks out Namor (while fighting in the rain) while holding back.

6. Struck a hole in Exitar the Exterminator's (a Celestial) armor. The force of the blow was felt thoughout the entire planet.

7. Carves out an uru hammer with his fingers.

8. Frees his half-brother Vidar by effortlessly breaking chains that're made to withstand the strength of 10 giants.

9. Destroys an alien tank and, from it, molds tons of metal into a makeshift hammer.

10. Breaks free from an Olympian metal harness.

11. Closes a chasm of "a million tons of earth" over Loki.

12. Effortlessly snaps out of adamantium alloy cables.

13. Crushes the Silver Surfer's force-field (amped by Loki's magic) that kept him away from Mjolnir.

14. Again, Thor destroy another one of Silver Surfer's force-fields with one strike.

15. Thor's punches, that when combined with another of equal strength, are capable of closing dimensional rifts.

16. Knocked out Abomination with a single blow.

17. Thor's and Beta Ray Bill's colliding punch leveled the surrounding countryside.

18. Matches a Savage Hulk's strength for an entire hour in a power struggle.

Superhuman Durability
1. Receives only minor scratch marks from Wolverine's adamantium claws.

2. Withstands the concussive blasts of vibromines, capable of shattering apart alien steel.

3. Withstand a blow from Rogue capable of shattering diamonds.

4. Survives being crushes by the weight of 20 planets.

5. Being unaffected by the temperature of the sun while confronting Atum.

6. Withstood an attack he created against Surtur that was 1000 times hotter than the sun.

7. Resisted temporal forces that can freeze molecules.

8. Unharmed by Ghost Rider's hellfire.

9. Survives an energy attack from Thanosi that destroyed the planet.

10. Survives an explosion caused by four Mjolnir-level weapons.

11. Withstood Decay's disintegration touch.

Mental Control Resistance
1. Resists being subdued by Horus, the Egyptian God of the Sun.

2. Resists Moondragon's and the Goddess mental manipulations.

3. Casts out Loki's spiritual influence from his mind.

4. Notices Morgana's warping of the world from her magic use, Scarlet Witch's power as well as the Twilight Sword, then resists her domination over his mind.

5. Thor's immortal noble soul caused Mephisto pain.

6. Withstands a mental attack from Glory.

Super Speed
1. The original Black Knight shoots bolas from his lance that are literally surrounding Thor, but with his speed, Thor knocks the lance away and evades being captured. Black Knight exclaims, "I've never seen such speed... such power!!"

2. Hela only has to touch Thor in order to ensnare his soul, but is unable to do so because of his speed, she says "His speed, his anger, are beyond comprehension!"

3. While simultaneously fighting Adam Worlock and Silver Surfer, Worlock compares his ability to catch his staff mid-swing and his combat speed to that of lightning, "He moves like the lightning he commands, much quicker than I remember."

4. Moves so fast that he become a blur of motion or move too fast to be seen. Shown here, Thor fights Heimdall and swings his hammer down on him at speeds "moving too swiftly for the eye to follow," even too fast for Heimdall

5. Digs a trench in a mere blur of motion that is "almost too fast for the human eye to follow."

6. While helping to rebuild Asgard, Thor repeatedly strikes down on a pillar "becoming a blur or motion".

7. Catches super-fast godling Zefra.

8. Lays a haymaker onto an Enchanter and spins around in time to snatch Mjolnir in mid-air all within the span of a few micro-seconds.

9. Swatting bullets away with Mjolnir with FTB (Faster Than Bullet) speed.

Super Powers
1. Body emits electricity

2. Project lightning bolts from his hands.

3. Emitting powerful energy from his body.

4. Reflects on his "Warrior's Madness" mode.

5. Can transcend the physical realm.

Claims of Holding Back his Power
1. Claims the anger he felt at himself in the above scene manifested by his quitting the Avengers, returning to Asgard and not appearing on Earth for an entire year (and several publishing years in fact). However, this nature of his persists to this very day and became a recurring theme in his adventures. He is, in fact, just that powerful and to live on Earth, he must hold back. He certainly must restrain himself against foes of lesser stature, such as Puma.

2. Says he hesitates to unleash his full power until pushed to the brink.

3. Here, against Grog the Godslayer he supposedly uses a self-proclaimed full-force Mjolnir throw to no avail. But after getting over his own insecurities, he throws one again to devastating effect.

Fighting Skills
1. On the verge of death and stripped of all his godly power, Thor defends himself against a horde of undead automatons when completely stripped of his godly powers and forced to rely solely on this thousands of years worth of experience and skill.

2. Handles himself and Captain America's shield with varying degrees of success against Zodiac's henchmen.

Mjolnir
1. Absorbs Silver Surfer's attacks.

2. Absorbs Hyperion's heat vision.

3. Absorbs the galaxy-destroying power of the Null Bomb.

4. Sucks and absorbs the energy out of the Presence.

5. Absorbs and redirect back energy tenfold and a hundredfold in his fight with Kang, and Thanosi respectively.

You just don't get more EPIC than THOR!

I'm no DC hater but he would seriously make Superman his bitch,
not that I think he would want to.

I am big Superman fan, but a even bigger Thor fan, the dudes just too powerful. You hear alot of people claiming that Superman holds back all the time, so does Thor. Total Badass one of my favourite marvel characters.

how 'bout when Thor kills the Hulk, the Thing, wolverine and captain america
just using the Odin power....and he does it with one of his arms cut off.
he takes them out in seconds. it was during Thor: the reigning.

Superman is an overrated punk. wonder woman isn't even close. thor
would kill her faster than she could blink. superman is a bitch when it
comes to magic and krypto. Thor would kick his as too, then polish
his hammer with sups cape. but say what ever you want, post as many
pics as you can find and spout off about the crossovers that DC wrote
if it will make you feel better.
SageMode
SageMode - 10/10/2011, 1:07 PM
@TheGDSuperguy: what has Wonder Woman ever done that shows that she's more powerful than Thor?

And that's not mainstream Superman. Its Silver Age. Thor that you see in All the panels of above are the same exact person.
SageMode
SageMode - 10/10/2011, 2:28 PM
Superman once needed help both Martian Manhunter and Wonder Woman to pull the planet Earth and needed Green Lantern's help with moving the moon and from the look of the scans, he was struggling his ass off on both incidents.

I like Thor as much as the next man but lets not go calling superman a bitch now people cuz he's done some amazing sh** too.

1.Superman is on the planet Uuz, which has no sun. He decides that everyone should be able to enjoy the warmth of the sun, so he creates one and moves the planet into orbit around it.

2. Hurls Planet: In order to protect his secret identity, Superman hurls a planet between the Earth and the Sun at 3 p.m. to make it dark enough that Lois doesn’t recognize someone else is pretending to be Clark Kent.

3. Superman #127 – Time Hurl and Time Vision: Superman hurls Titano the Titanic Ape through time by throwing him at a certain speed and spin. To make he did this correctly, Superman uses his X-Ray vision to look through time and check up on him.

4. Held a miniature block hole in his hand which is durablity, stamina, and strength

5.closing a rip in reality with his hands

6.superman absorbed the energy of the meggedon warhead which could at minimum take out half the galaxy (big energy absorbing feat showing his energy storage capabilities)

now these are just after a quick ten minute search. If i was to spend time on this bad boy i think everyone would be like "DAMN!"

@LukeCage2012:
No one denies Superman's feats are impressive. We all know how powerful he is and how powerful he can become. But most of the comicbookfans DONT know how truly powerful Thor is. Thor's feats are comparable to Supes', even Thor has more due to the fact that he has more powers than Supes' does.

@TheGDSuperGuy:
What does Thor picking up the Serpent in the Golden Age have to do with it? Its weight is listed as being immeasurable.

BlackPather2018 - 10/10/2011, 4:12 PM
@0SageMode0 - i totally understand what you are saying but i don't think a lot of people know exactly what superman can do also like vibrate his body to Doomsdays punches didn't hurt him, using his heat vision reparing a hole in the cosmos, and as far as what he can do it's never really been unleashed just like thor i don't really think they have a limit to what they can do. we all now that Thanos is the Darkseid of the Marvel world and superman has flown darkseid thru a black hole, pin him up against a wall and ripped his arm off simple because he was pissed and hand enough of his shit that day. I really enjoyed you artical and would like someone to do one of superman to see the many different ways he has used his powers.
SageMode
SageMode - 10/10/2011, 7:30 PM
@TheGDDSuperGuy: You know what...you're right. Mjolnir gives Thor a HUGE advantage in battle. But that really doesnt matter being that Mjolnir is a normal part of his arsenal. Their feats are comparable. The only thing thats clear that Supes has over Thor is speed. and even that debatable (as resulted in the scans above show displaying his speed.) And as Thor has said above, he's fought speedsters before and won, so fighting Supes wouldnt be anything different for him.

Supes would put up a hell of a fight, but Thor wins 8/10 times.
TheMadman
TheMadman - 10/10/2011, 7:44 PM
I think you should do one on most major characters! This was great and one on a few other characters would be a great resource for debates!
MARV3L
MARV3L - 10/11/2011, 4:31 AM
I love Superman but TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY is trying to ruin him for me, making him out to be the DCU's bitch by cleaning up everybody else's shit just devalues the Universe in my opinion.

The MU doesn't always go to Thor because they can't, probably because he'd say "[frick] off, thy have enuff shit on thy cosmic plate! Like polishing thy hammer while simultaneously judging the annual Valkyrior mud wrestling competition!"...LOL

I suppose at the end of the day I just think Thor would kick his ass on cool factor alone.
Dynamo
Dynamo - 10/11/2011, 5:22 AM
I love both characters. What I hate is when people claim they don't like Superman because he's over powered yet love Hulk and Thor who they also claim can defeat him. Erm... oxymoron much? They're all over powered, but that doesn't stop them from being great characters.

i enjoyed this very much as you know, could you do one on the hulk please.

@TheGDDSuperGuy:
I never said Superman was a pushover. I know he's kicked major ass over the years. Im just saying that given Thor's overall power, skill, and capabilities, he would beat Superman more often than vice versa. All the powers that Mjolnir has, thousands of years of battle experience in addition to his godly physical attributes just makes Thor more of the threat to fight against.

@marvel72: thanks man, I try my best.
Im gonna try and see what I can find on the Hulk.

@TheGDSuperguy:
Besides Speed (still debatable), what clear cut advantage does Superman have over Thor?

Strength - Equaled.
Durability - Equaled.
Endurance - Equaled.
Fighting Skills - Thor
Battle Experience - Thor
Intelligence - depends on what type of intelligence.
a. Book Smarts - Superman
b. Wordly knowledge - Thor
GLGeek
GLGeek - 10/11/2011, 2:43 PM
Sorry guys, but this match-up totally goes to Thor. I love DC and Marvel equally and for different reasons. But Superman has a weakness to MAGIC. No matter what age (silver, golden, etc) Thor is a being of magic. Even without Mjolnir, Thor would WRECK Supes. Would it take out several planets, possibly a solor system? Sure. But Superman would fall.

And then I'd cry. I love me some Supes.
SageMode
SageMode - 10/11/2011, 6:19 PM
@TheGDSuperGuy:
"Speed clearly goes to Superman, he's been seen to move at near-lightspeeds at will. Thor only moves that fast swinging Mjilnor. Even against Quicksilver, had Quicksilver been a powerhouse...like, say Superman, he would've pwned Thor. Just fraging an entire area isn't going to work on Superman."

This happened within MICRO-SECONDS. 1 microsecond is equal to 1000 nanoseconds, in which it takes light 1 nanoseconds to travel 1 foot. and from the looks of the pic, id say that Mjolnir is less than 5 feet away from Thor by the time he already punches Magnir. so that means he'd have roughly less than 5 microseconds or 5,000 nanoseconds to catch it. sounds pretty close to super speed comparable to Superman's to me, dontcha think.

"Intelligence, not even close, Thor is a thug with a hammer. Superman's mind is a computer, he'd outsmart Thor 10/10."

Like I said, there's a difference between books smarts and battle smarts. Book smarts aren't gonna help you in a H2H battle. If that was the case, Superman wouldve defeated Doomsday without dying, but he didnt.

"Energy projections? This is Superman, I don't have time for this. Ice breath, heat vision. Ice breath slows Thor down, don't even bother. Ice breath slowed Diana down, it'll slow down Thor. Will; AGAIN, no one in the DCnU is on par with Superman, not even Hal Jordan. Superman was even considered for the job when Abin Sur died, but the ring went with Hal."

Energy Projections and Manipulations: GodBlast, Anti-Force, Thermo Blast, Manipulation of Molecules and Matter, Weather Control, Cosmic Energy Projection, Resurecting the Dead, Energy Absorption, Teleportation, Force-Fields / Barriers, Controlling Alpha Particles, Electromagnetic Spectrum Manipulation, Invisibility and Intangibility, Time Traveling, ETC,. If Thor is able to resist the weight of 20 planets and break out of pressure that equivalent to a Neutron Star, why would he be able to break out of being frozen in ice? (Which he has also done before.)

"Superman wins purely because he has the superior hero to Thor. Thor has been beaten, many a number of times by beings more powerful than him (HULK) and beings powerful enough to match him physically and outsmart him (Rulk; Rulk wasn't even as strong as Thor). The Only time person Superman is always on the losing end to is Batman and that is solely because Superman doesn't want to kill him. Superman faced of against Captain Marvel twice and twice he got the upper-hand on him, Marvel has the power of 3 gods and Superman still beats him. Why would Thor have a better chance?"

Superior in popularity? Yes. Being overall more powerful? No.
The reason you said of why Supes gets on the losing end to Batman because he doesnt want to kill him. Thats the SAME EXACT reason why Thor takes it easy on the Hulk. Again, as proclaimed upto in the first couple of scans in the Restraint of Power section, Thor states that he ALWAYS hold back on Earth because of him not wanting to cause collateral damage to the planet and innocents that are usually nearby when him and the Hulk fight. You must have forgotten the fight between the two where Thor beats the Hulk no prob when he snapped his neck, making him turn back into Bruce Banner, or when he knocked the Hulk in outer space in the Fear Itself storyline.

Captain Marvel has the power of 3 gods, But he doesnt have the COMBINED power of three gods. He has the strength of Hercules only, not the strength of Hercules, Zeus and Mercury combined. Comparing him to Thor wouldnt be different for that aspect alone.
