Latest Iron Man 2 Set Footage Features Whiplash

ET's latest smattering of footage from the set of Iron Man 2 features Mickey Rourke and his character, Whiplash.

In this short video from the set of Iron Man 2, Entertainment Tonight (ET) focuses on Mickey Rourke and the character he plays, Ivan Vanko, AKA Whiplash.






Producer/director/actor Jon Favreau said about Rourke:

"His career got very busy as he was doing all the award season stuff and it took some time to make everything work out, but he was enthusiastic from our first meeting.

"Once we thought of him, we started developing the costume and the design of the character around him."

Robert Downey, Jr. said that Rourke takes acting very seriously, which would only help the production:

"We knew he would bring something to a nemesis character that would make it more engaging and more dimensional."



EDITOR NOTE: Whiplash's whips looked much cooler in the teaser clip shown at the San Diego Comic-Con than they do in this ET clip. With the SFX added, his flailing whips are truly a menacing spectacle.

FIRST!!! I can't wait for the movie to come out. I think that Mickey Rourke deserves a long shot under the spotlight.

THERE WAS A COMIC FEATURING WHIPLASH, RECENT, IT LOOKED LIKE VEGA FROM STREETFIGHTER BUT BUT ALLITTLE MORE ARMOR, THERES SOME SKIN EXPOSED BUT ITS LIKE THEYRE SAYING"THIS GUY IS THAT MUCH OF A BAD ASS WHERE WHAT HE LACKS IN BODY COVERING HE MAKES UP WITH DEADLY WHIP WORK, HIGH VOLTAGE LASER WHIPS THAT LOOK ASSISTED BY BODY STRENGTHENING CYBORNETIC BRACES..WHO'D EVEN WANNA GET CLOSE TO HIM WITH HIS REACH WITH THOSE THINGS, THAT FROM WHAT I CAN SEE CAN SLICE THROUGH AN AUTOMOBILE IN HALF LIKE BUTTER...

Damn right Cheadle! Rourke is a rare talent I think. He completely inhabits any role he plays..when he has an interest that is! I have also seen him stink up the screen. But I cant wait to see how he plays this dude.

I realy hope they dont make him a complete villian because if I remember correctly Whiplash got started hanging out with the wrong crowd.Then ofcourse he turned into Whiplash(I know I'm skipping stuff just bare with me)He tried to turn over a new leaf but his parents disowned him and he pretty much couldnt get a job so he went back into the buisness of being a bad guy.Iron Man kicked his but of couple of more times and then he realy turned over a new leaf. He got married and had a kid. He however took one more job for the money for his new family. I dont realy remember but his wife was killed while he was gone. His kid was kidnapped and he was blackmailed into fighting Iron Man again. Now Iron Man at this time created a new suit. This new suit was realy smart and ofcource had better gagdets and he made short work of wl. While wl was giving up and telling Iron Man about his kid and that he was sorry Tony Stark tried to stop hitting him but his suit pretty much just took over. Iron Man suit pretty much killed Whiplash right there. Now I know I left alot out but thats how I remember it. Please feel free to correct it. I just hope they dont go all Hollywood and go in another direction honestly.

You know...several times now I have seen that in this movie Whiplash gets hit by a car.
It could be that that ends the fight scene at the race track. Also it may well be that getting his legs crushed in front of a race car is the thing that brings about the upgrade to the full body suit of armor. Perhaps needed to assist him in mobility because there's no way he would walk away from being nailed by a car.

I think this movie is in DEEP DEEP DEEp trouble, there promo-ing it more than any movie ever.. WHY so much work if the product is good... Rourke looks like a bum in THIS footage, could get better later .. but sawry its looking like a train wreck to me.

@Sonny: This movie will be good considering the talent involved and the pressures to top the first one. And, Rourke looks skeevy cause he just got out of prison (orange jumpsuit).

Notice how Rourke's orange jumpsuit kinda-sorta looks like Whiplash's crazy waist cape in this old Iron Man comic? Coincidence?

Mickey Rourke was the best addition to the cast. Can't wait for this movie. Hopefully he'll have a better suit in the next trailer

Yea, he needs an upgrade that'll cover skin cuz otherwise, how will he withstand hits from iron man. it'll suck if that's it for his suit

None ever mentions his roll in spun the movie. That was one of the first films he did when he got back into acting, i think it was right before sin city. Really trippy movie and he played a meth cooker. Really good movie.

I heard from a friend of mine who's dad works on the set of Iron Man, that the "Pre Madona" stuff was an joke, he is actualy pissed on set when people don't do things he doesn't like and storms off and doesn't come back till he's "Ready"
