Superbad Actors Did Their Kick-Ass Research Ahead of Time

Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke discuss their comic book cred!
The producers of Kick-Ass did not have to send copies of the comic book to at least two of the stars of the upcoming film to familiarize them with the story. Superbad co-stars Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Clark Duke told MTV that they were both familiar with the comic book before signing on to make the movie.

Mint-Plasse, famous for the role of McLovin in Superbad, plays the crimefighter The Red Mist in director Matthew Vaughn's (Layer Cake) Kick-Ass movie adaptation.

"I got the script and said, 'I've seen this name before,' and went through my dad's comics, pulled out the first issue and read it."

Not to be outdone, Duke, who played a partying teenager in Superbad and plays Marty in Kick-Ass, one-upped Mintz-Plasse by dropping some real comic book knowledge:

"I had the comic first. I've been a big fan of Mark [Millar] ever since The Authority and followed everything he's done since then. And John Romita, too, obviously—he's drawn every major character in the world over his career. So yeah, I definitely had the comic first."

Kick-Ass also stars Aaron Johnson as Dave Lizewski/Kick-Ass, Nicolas Cage as Damon Macready and Chloe Moretz as Mindy Macready/Hit Girl and opens April 16, 2010!
