UPDATED! First Images from Hollywood Fan Film BATMAN EVOLUTION

Actor and real-life ninja Eric Gable offers Brent Sprecher and CBM an exclusive first look at 'Batman' in action in the fan film made by Hollywood professionals, Batman Evolution! UPDATE: New high-res fight still!

A Batman fan film titled Batman Evolution went into production in Hollywood last month. "What's the big deal," you ask? "Fan films are being made all the time and they usually suck." True, true, but few fan films can boast a Hollywood director behind the camera, a rogues gallery of thugs played by Hollywood’s premiere stunt team 87eleven (The Avengers, 300), and an actor playing Batman who also happens to have black belts in jujitsu, tae kwon do and ninjutsu. Yeah, that’s right. This fan film can claim an actor playing one of comicdom's greatest ninjas who is actually a ninja!

Actor Eric Gable — first profiled right here on CBM as my choice to play Iron Fist in a Marvel Studios production — not only stars in the short movie, but he also wrote it and choreographed all of the fight sequences. He also happens to be a big fan of the CBM community, which is why he shared with us the very first look at Batman Evolution the day it went into production. The movie is now in post-production and Eric has once again offered CBM an exclusive first look at ‘Batman’ in action in a trio of new still images.

UPDATE: 9/9/12

So...Eric was stoked by your comments about the images he released to me, but he wanted to clarify that the images above were not actual stills from the movie, but screen captures he took during editing, which is why they're pretty dark. He sent along a true still image so you can see how crisp and vibrant the final film will look. Dig it!

Since many of you will inevitably (especially, now that I’m mentioning it) pose questions that have already been answered, I’ll just let Eric answer those questions (again):

CBM: What’s up with the title?
Eric:

Batman will "evolve" in this movie from the old Adam West Batman to the modern Batman. …there's a lot of gritty, badass action in this, obviously, but it also has a parody element to it. I want to show how Batman — in a somewhat funny way — transforms from the '60s look into the "Dark Knight" as we know him today. Hopefully, the fans will be okay with a little Adam West-style fun — with a nod and wink — before we break bad with a truly dark, modern Batman fight.

CBM: No cape? No utility belt? What’s that about?
Eric:
That's actually part of the plot. Black Mask challenges Batman to fight his way through a...through his goons without using his bullet-proof cape and belt full of gadgets — just his fighting skills!

Cool. It's good to see Batman (Eric) doing martial arts in this film since we didn't get to see a lot of it in Chris Nolan's TDK trilogy.

Sh!t, dude. This is looking bad@$$. I'm liking this more and more everytime I see it. Cannot wait for this!! :)

@bsprecher - Dude, this is looking sweet. True, there may be some fan-films of Batman out there that weren't as good as Batman: City of Scars or Seeds of Arkham, but from what I'm seeing with Batman: Evolution, this might trump both of those films. Thanks for sharing this with us, man.

@ToDandy - Indeed, dude. Now we get to see Batman's skills and fighting technique without any assistance from his arsenal of gadgets. I've always wanted to see that on film. :)

Hmm...interesting. I will keep an open mind and for a fan film the expectations shouldn't be that high so it may surprise.

Except Nolans Batman was essentially the comic Batman in heart, motivation, and importance/influence

For once I'd like to see on film the truest Batman style. That means cape and everything. Nolan's films barely touched on it. Somebody else said that "Begins" was the closest to seeing real martial arts. But to also see, full on, the use of his cape and everything in a fight would be something new. This looks different and interesting. I'll definitely be checking it out.

It would be awesome if DC decided for Batman to have this type of look in the movies. Maybe having the Batman beyond wings would be a nice change.

Hopefully will be won over by the final film, but the whole Black Mask challenges Batman plot seems a bit weak.

As for people having a go a the Wonderer I would say seeing as Batman has gone from camp, space traveling hero to gritty underground vigilante it would seem tough to tell him to pick up a comic, seeing as the character like all comic book heroes have undergone many interpretations.

So as much as I will agree it was 'Nolan's' Batman, that isn't a bad thing to get another interpretation as it provides us with fresh takes on different characters, which means, much like James Bond, every has their definitive Batman if that be the 60's show, Snyder comics or Nolan movies.

This argument goes both ways, in terms of saying something is faithful too, as so much variation over so many years any CBM has to pick and choose how to translate to film.

Was Hawkeye any less of the character because his suit was different? Nope. Was Black Widow any less the character because she wasn't Russian? Nope.

Why couldn't Nolan hire someone well-trained to do Batman's fighting scenes? It's not like it'd take a lot of effort to differentiate between Bale and the stuntman. All 3 were pretty good films, the action in each and every one of them was complete shit. Never for one second did I believe that Bale's Batman was a trained ninja.
