Terminator 5 is in the Works

Terminator Salvation director McG confirmed that a sequel is already in the works!

Not much of interest came out of TCA, but there was some good news for Terminator fans. Director McG, attending as the producer of the Human Target TV series, admitted that a sequel to Terminator Salvation was in the works.

McG announced:

"Yeah, we're working on it right now. We're very far down the line with the story for that – for the next picture, and even the picture after that, and feeling good and we'll see where that takes us. I'm prepping 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea right now and I'm looking at Spring Awakening, but also the notion of the next Terminator – I mean, we're making it. Warners is excited about it. Sony is excited about it. And we can't wait to get back at it and show the world what becomes of that war and how we master time travel because we stayed away from time travel in Salvation and I missed it. We decided it was the right thing to do and we did a lot of things right in that movie and we did many things wrong in that movie. And we'll learn from the experience and we'll grow and I think the next movie is going to be even more exciting and a better film.

When asked about the plot for the sequel, McG said:

"One of the problems is that in a post-apocalyptic world, everybody's a little bummed out because your brother melted... your friends are gone. Everything went haywire. So the idea is to play with one of the tried and true rules of the franchise – time travel – and introduce it in this picture. I don't want to share too much, but let's just say it's very, very likely that John Connor is going to end up running through rooms like this where he knows something that none of us know. And I think that is a platform for great storytelling. Because I always love it when [Kyle] Reese is in our world, as you saw in the first picture, and everybody thinks he's out of his [expletive] mind and he knows and he can't afford to be concerned. And he's got to convince someone he cares about to come with him! And that's one of the engines. And we'll have a much more clearly defined antagonist in the new picture. It will be more of a chase movie with a new Terminator that is on your ass."

McG also admitted that the Terminator TV show, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, probably hurt the film, rather than boosted it, as they had hoped it would:

"That's one of those things that we realized looking over our shoulder. I believe that we can put enough separation into our film construct where the television show would be the television show and the film will be the film. But one could also argue that (Smallville) cannibalized (Superman Returns) to some degree...it's always witchcraft. It's guess work. It's dangerous."

Sounds bad. I really think they need to get away from time travel.

Brent@ what does this guy have to do with human target? Hopefully not alot
superdog - 8/10/2009, 5:03 PM
Sounds like Terminator 1-3 all over again..get chased by Terminator thats back from the future....escape in the end...
uhh under superdog again??? anyone see my umbrella???
Rumblebeast - 8/10/2009, 5:11 PM
@superdog: McG is a producer of the show.
Brent Sprecher - 8/10/2009, 5:12 PM
@ Superdog, what other direction would they go? We already know that Reese goes back, I mean how else would John Connor be there? Time travel is an integral part of the story man.
WulfComicFan - 8/10/2009, 5:15 PM
RE: Human Target

Human Target is based on the DC Comics title of the same name and isproduced by McG. Actor Mark Valley plays Christopher Chance, a mysterious security freelancer who protects clients in danger by assuming their identities.
Brent Sprecher - 8/10/2009, 5:17 PM
Seriously hope this doesn't get made.
TheMyth - 8/10/2009, 5:18 PM
Woah woah woah, wait, back up, McG is connected with Spring Awakening? Does that mean it's getting a movie? Or is he going to do stage work?

And I'd like to see at least a little bit more of the apocolyptic future, before we go back to time traveling and recycling plot-lines.
Phoenix9109 - 8/10/2009, 5:19 PM
Oh! Thats nice
supermikesnonexistentgirlfriend - 8/10/2009, 5:19 PM
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
SirPrize - 8/10/2009, 5:41 PM
I want cameron back.
spideysweb - 8/10/2009, 5:42 PM
Hey sirprize, love your avatar buddy.
spideysweb - 8/10/2009, 5:43 PM
AND THAT IS [frick]ING IT! WELL DONE MCG, YOU HAVE SINGLE-HANDLEDLY RUINED THE TERMINATOR FRANCHISE. YOU COULD HAVE KEPT IT IN THE POST-APOCALYPTIC FUTURE BUT NOOOOOOOOOOOO! NOW ITS JUST BASICALLY T1 - T3 ALL OVER AGAIN! GOD I HOPE THIS MOVIE FAILS SO HARD AND MCG GETS RUN OVER BY A BUS TOMORROW! WE NEED JAMES CAMERON BACK!

I hope you will all join me in boycotting this piece of crap! I hope the sixth movie returns to the post-apocalyptic future in some way

oh and i cant believe it, someone thats more annoying than supermike has arrived: supermikesnonexistentgirlfriend! Go away now please!
dancingmonkey08 - 8/10/2009, 5:50 PM
@ Brent, can you get some kind of poll going on who should direct the next Terminator flick and then contact the winner? Maybe one day the fans will actually get a say.
spideysweb - 8/10/2009, 5:53 PM
Oh come on mr. Monkey, isn't there room here for all of us? You me, mickey, one big happy family
supermikesnonexistentgirlfriend - 8/10/2009, 5:54 PM
I agree that rime travel WAS an integral part of the story. Now they can go forward with the story as a futuristic war. Yes they can deal with sending Reese back etc. Maybe see that occur from the future time. See thier converstion what led up to taking over the skynet base that had the machine. I get that. But no reason to send John back or anyone else.
superdog - 8/10/2009, 5:55 PM
So tell us supermikesnonexistentgirlfriend, is he really a douche or is it all an act? LOL
spideysweb - 8/10/2009, 5:56 PM
i think it would be good if they went back to a similar formula of the first three films - the whole chase aspect was what made them so great! though TS was an ok film - this would make it better IMO.

and guys - head over to the Bucky poll!!! its getting kinda quiet over there! :)
joshw24 - 8/10/2009, 6:03 PM
Guys the whole reason everyone like James Cameron's terminator was because it dealt with time travel and the future and stuff. So how the hell are they not supposed to talk about time travel. The story is still in a post-apocalyptic setting but it also has to do with time travel. Maybe it'll be good. T4 was good T5 will probably better.

Also will people stop with the Super Mike obsession. Its starting to be more annoying than he is.
Watchtower31 - 8/10/2009, 6:04 PM
Well Mr. Webb, Mickey is even more wonderful in person. He has such a unique personality all his own =3
supermikesnonexistentgirlfriend - 8/10/2009, 6:04 PM
Webb@ as I said I agree time travel has to be Involved. But not time TRAVEL. They don't need to send Anyone back in time who hasn't already been sent. Show those events fro the perspective of the fuure. But mcg is talking about sending someone like John back in time to a contemporary time. That's what all 3 of the 1st ones were about.
superdog - 8/10/2009, 6:27 PM
I thought TS wasn't too bad. The interview was good, except seeing McG blame-shifting the movie's poor results to The Sarah Connor Chronicles tv show.

TS was good, but no T2. And simply said, Superman sucked. But I guess he had to employ some strategy to justify him being kept running the show.
soforizo - 8/10/2009, 6:27 PM
Salvation was alright, it won't have the staying power of the irst two, but i belive it was successful in reviving the series.
THEHAWK - 8/10/2009, 6:40 PM
supermikesnonexistentgirlfriend , he has 4 of them!
Supermikesgrammarteacher - 8/10/2009, 6:53 PM
DAMN IT! I can't escape them!
THEHAWK - 8/10/2009, 6:57 PM
Alright. Supermikes mom was funny. Dad was pushing it. Now it's too far. He is an asshole but his family and friends are too much
superdog - 8/10/2009, 7:01 PM
I actually am starting to miss the real Supermike.

Will the real Supermike please stepp forward.

Alright Superdog, when he comes up have the shotgun ready...
THEHAWK - 8/10/2009, 7:14 PM
I wanna see John Connor termianted. He was really pussified in the last movie. I mean, it was really all about Marcus. Bale did a subpar job anyway. Termiante Bale, take it in a new direction...Hell...let the bloody machines win already, this shit needs to come to a halt!
TheDurkinKnight - 8/10/2009, 7:27 PM
How long are they going to milk this franchise? Is it enjoyable, hells yes, can they get one more really good movie out of it? Probably, 2, pushing it, if they want to incorporate time travel have them send Kyle Reese back at some point, like say the very end of the film, tie them all together and leave it alone.

Also, I blame TS for getting the TV show canceled, the show was so much better and left on a huge cliffhanger.
Perrigren - 8/10/2009, 7:33 PM
I miss the show. ANd Reaper
THEHAWK - 8/10/2009, 7:37 PM
Yeah i hat it when shows get cancelled after a big cliffhanger. It's frigen annoying!!
superdog - 8/10/2009, 8:00 PM
What else is there left for them to do Terminator becoming as bad as Star War as bad as Watching Superman fighting Doomsday in the comics I mean these three thing are worse then The economy
Supermike - 8/10/2009, 8:07 PM
Supermike is an asshole
superdog - 8/10/2009, 8:26 PM
I was a fan of Salvation at least compared to the majority, but this fool blaming the floppage of his movie on SCC is unforgivable.
HarrisonBergeron - 8/10/2009, 8:39 PM
MCG is total failure. I HAVE A BOYCOT AGAINST MCG FOREVER HONESTLY, HE DIRECTED MADONNA MUSIC VIDEOS BEFORE. I HATE TO GO AGAINST THE GRAIN HERE BUT I'M A CHILD OF THE 80S THERE IS ONLY 1 TRILOGY (I BEGRUDGINGLY ACCEPT THE ENDING). AND ILL NOT GIVE HIS "MTV EXPLOSIONS" STYLE FILM MAKING A CHANCE. EVEN THOUGH I THINK BALE PERSONALLY IS A GREAT ACTOR!
dellamorte1872 - 8/10/2009, 9:46 PM
God i hope this is not true or McG comes to his senses. The formula worked for the first two, but by three it was getting stale. Now were in the future, at least, and he wants to go in the past yet again? Whats he going to do, stop his grandma from getting killed by an energy based terminator or something?
Shadowelfz - 8/10/2009, 9:56 PM
I somewhat liked TS, but it was still disappointing. I am looking forward to 20,000 Leagues though, I hope it follows the book well.

@HarrisonBergeron: Loved that story (Harrison Bergeron).

@TheHawk: None of us can.
TheCritic17 - 8/10/2009, 10:10 PM
McG has not ruined the Terminator franchise, T4 wasn't great but it was pretty good and a lot better than Wolverine and Transformers 2. Next to Star Trek it was the best actioner of the summer.
Ryguy88 - 8/10/2009, 10:43 PM
dellamorte@ you can't hate a guy because he used to direct music videos, everyone has to start somewhere. And his "explosions" are hardly MTV style, he and his team actually put alot into those action scenes and made them quite thrilling compared to most summer movies. The plot of the movie wasn't spot-on but the action was top notch.
Ryguy88 - 8/10/2009, 10:49 PM
i thought TS was pretty good. of course not as good as t1 or t2 which i partially blame on the retarded pg-13. but it knocks t3 out of the water cuz that one was just plain horrible. the only thing i think they shudnt have done was show us that marcus was terminator in the previews and commercials. if we didnt know that till the actual movie, it may have had a greater effect on us.
HopOff718 - 8/11/2009, 12:47 AM
idk....introducing the time travel device, machine, or what ever it is..is gonna be very interesting and very weird to me at the same time. cause if they do, then wouldn't the story from part one through part 3 cycle again? not that im saying they're gonna show part 1 through 3 in part 5. lol... and in the sci-fi theory, when you change the past, the future changes too..so doing that, the war changes right there instantly or what? idk...someone correct me cause idk what to think anymore. i'm going crazy. heh heh
prototype 3D - 8/11/2009, 2:14 AM
see what you people have done!? supermike was gone but you mentioning him has brought him back!!! Aaaahhhhh!!!!!
joshw24 - 8/11/2009, 2:42 AM
forget it..i think i'm beginning to understand a bit just thinking about it. lol
but by all means...anybody..correct me if you want. heh heh.
prototype 3D - 8/11/2009, 2:47 AM
I reckon John should go back to 1955 so he can take part in the enchantment under the sea dance then hook up a Arnie to a clock tower shooting 1.21 gigawatts of power through him thus bringing him back to life so he can live normaly among us ,yet keeping secret from his wife that he is working for the government....fun ensues and John realises his mistake when Arnie becomes Governer and decides he's done with him profesionaly!!

Could happen :)
teabag - 8/11/2009, 6:44 AM
but then he might create an alternate timeline in which biff rules the future due to betting on skynet footbal games.
superdog - 8/11/2009, 7:18 AM
spideyswebb - thank you.

I hope this doesn't get made. The Terminator storyline is getting extremely tired. First two were great after that it went down hill. Skynet will always win, end of story.
SirPrize - 8/11/2009, 7:20 AM
Dog@...HELLOOOOO ANYBODY HOME!!! biff cant create an alternative universe beacause john caused a butterfly effect causing biff to remain buried in shit forever....kinda like Aston Kutcher's career...;)
teabag - 8/11/2009, 7:46 AM
they bet to nobody remembering the first 2, meaning they can repeat and repeat the old chasing robot formula all over again.. but in the apocalyptic world??

anyway, here are, in my opinion, the plot-holes in Terminator Salvation:

1.-So where did they get the fuel for the helicopters? from the MAD-MAX movie crew? lol! :-]
(the ammo i could understand, surely there were millions of weapons and cartridges useful around the world, but the fuel itself rans out fast )

2.- If Skynet´s priority 1 & 2 was to kill Reese and Connor, THEN WHY IN THE NAME OF ARNOLD didn´t Skynet just kill Kyle when they had him??
Why was he lying in that cryo-bed? was he about to be cloned or something?

3.- JConnor and Marcus managed to destroyed a couple of terminators and escaped, but why didnt skynet send like, 50 terminators to finish the job instead of just TWO??!! and inside Skynet´s very deep headquarters!!

4.-Why didn´t all the terminator ships recognize Marcus´face when they saw him all along the first hour of the movie?? (Of course unless it was part of Skynet´s plans to make Marcus play its game)

5.-So Marcus´s blood type is 100% compatible with JConnor? really? anyway it was more of a symbolic theme i guess.

6.-Again in the climactic battle, WE DON´T SEE ANY AEREAL BATTLE, no freakinig helicopetrs fighting the Ships! The most incredible thing is that the ressistance helicopter lies there for a loooooooooooooooooooooooong time and no freakin terminator seemed to come close and fire at it, neither by air!! we are talking Skynet´s headquarters here.

anyway it was a fun movie to watch.. good action but, well, Arnold´s cgi presence seemed forced and not accurate with was was told in T3 (when Arnold says that he took advantage of his look to fool Connor and kill him).
SirJediFrank - 8/11/2009, 8:02 AM
I'm surprised MetalHead hasn't chimed in.
SirPrize - 8/11/2009, 8:10 AM
I think someone else here is "supermike" one of you guys are busting a superman in a phonebooth on us hahaha

confess who has the supermike alternate identity????

Mcg is getting a bit annoying. Put me in charge I'll get the wheels rolling on a good plot
SdProphet - 8/11/2009, 8:44 AM
I was a bit disappointed by Terminator Salvation, as well. I'm not sure if my hopes were too high, or I was upset about Moon Bloodgood's nude scene getting cut or what it was, but I wasn't very pumped afterwards. Still, I'll probably tune in for another sequel...
Brent Sprecher - 8/11/2009, 9:38 AM
UUUHHH...stay away from time travel, PLEASE.

Salvation was heading in the right direction. People don't want to see the "chase." They want to see the things that they didn't see in the first three movies.

...like when and how did certain models of terminators come along, when and how did the plasma weapons start being used, when and how did time travel come to be, Skynet's base, the war against the machines, and some of the characters like CMDR Perry.

McG said that Salvation was a "War" movie...IT WASN'T. People want to see more of the future war.

That's McG's problem...he listens too much to the critics and fans. He just needs to stop listening to all of their BS, and create the vision that he wants for the movies. All the critics complained about how the movie strayed away from its "chase" roots.

**** that! It's been done already. McG's vision was original and entertaining, and I WANT MORE OF IT.
Macksimus - 8/11/2009, 2:59 PM
LOOK!!!!

I can you tell right now what people want to see...

People want to see THE ENTIRE MOVIE Be a Big Intense WAR Between the Humans and the Mechines.

The Futuristic War with an ENTIRE ARY OF T-800's Marching in a RAGING BATTE that we all saw in the first Minute or so in all first two Terminator Movies IS WHAT WE WANT TO SEE THROUGHOUT THE ENTIRE MOVIE!

I want to see ARMIES and ARMIES of T-800's Coming for the Humans NON-STOP with Ships BLASTING Away in aerial attacks at the Humans. I want to see Arnold being Captured and reprogrammed by John Conner to Fight Along Side the Humans in a Crazy, Non-Stop War against the Waves of Mechines....

THATS...What we've been waiting for for all these YEARS!!!!!!

Now in the MIST of all this Dark, Epic WAR, we can have the Mission Objective of getting to the Time Mechine or What Ever Need Pieces of the Time Mechine that is needed to get it built and Ship Reese out.

But keep the Party Going in the Future.

Near the END of this second Moive, do what was done in the lasr film and show us the Next Model of Terminator thats on the way against the Humans.... The T-1000!

PLEASE!!!

If you give us all that I asked, the Movie will be a Box Office Smash.

You've Build us all the way up to this point, you even made a Build up to the Build up Movie,...

Its time to Deliver!!!

NubaX - 8/11/2009, 4:14 PM
Macksimus and NubaX

Damn good posts! You're so right! Thats the way to finish out the current Terminator trilogy and not with a bloody chase movie! I love T1 & T2 but T5 & T6 are gonna suck if it returns to the same formula and anybody that doesnt think this has no bloody imagination! Now Im not one to insult people's opinions as people on this site are damn intelligent but anybody who wants T5 & T6 to be like T1 - T3 are idiots!

@ SirJediFrank
In answer to your point number 2, I think they were gonna make a T-800 with the appearance of Kyle Reese because they couldnt risk killing Kyle Reese because he would eventually have to travel back in time to help destroy the Arnie T-800 in Terminator 1 and the remains of this T-800 would lead to the creation of Skynet. So with a T-800 with the appearance of Kyle going back to 1984, after he had help defeat the Arnie T-800, the Kyle T-800 could kill Sarah to prevent John's creation. They just didnt explain it right in T4.

teabag & superdog
lmao at your comments! I think that would make a kick-ass T5. Now imagine Arnie in the role of the Doc.

"Greath Scotth, where we are goingh, we dont need roadhs, because we have to get the choppa!"

superdog - 8/11/2009, 7:02 PM
or they should show what was happening in the future during the 1-3 films were happening...gah!
redskullrevenge - 8/11/2009, 11:20 PM
SirPrize,
You're funny. Trust me, I know I could easily blow these "plot hole" arguments out of the water. It just gets really old trying to explain over and over and over that there were specific reasons why things didn't happen like these complaints by SirJediFrank:

(1) The reason the Resistance had fuel... is because there is still fuel on Earth!!! Not an unlimited supply but if the majority of the population was wiped out then not much of it is being used.

(2) Skynet couldn't kill Kyle in the future because it knows that his travel to 1984 is a key factor in its creation.

(3) Skynet didn't send more than 2 Terminators after Kyle & John (it was only ONE actually) BECAUSE THEY HAD LITERALLY JUST STARTED BUILDING THE T-800s AND THAT WAS THE FIRST ONE! This is something that you would have to pay attention to know!

(4) Yes, the "Terminator Ships," as you put it, knew what Marcus's mission was.

(5) Marcus's heart was not a real heart.

(6) Can't help you there but that's hardly a "plot hole."
