TDKR: Tom Hardy Initially Felt He Wasn't The Best Choice For Bane

While attending the premiere of Chris Nolan's final Bat-film, Hardy spoke to MTV about how he felt he wasn't right to play the villainous role of the back-breaking Bane when given the part. Watch the interview after the jump..

From Hardy on his first impressions of portraying Bane:
When I first heard of Bane, I think, like a lot of people who aren't Batman-centric in a way, I didn't know who he was, so it had to be explained who he was, and then I looked at him and I saw his luchador mask and his way-tight wrestling pants and his huge muscles. I thought, 'He must have got the wrong man, because I can't play ... I don't play that.'

The Dark Knight Rises is directed by Christopher Nolan(The Prestige, Inception) and stars Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hardy, and Anne Hathaway. The film will be unleashed upon audiences on the 20th of this month.

And you didn't play that Tom;) haha, no Bane is great in the movie, but I'll concede that it is not in any way the Bane from the comics aside from his brutality.

Too add to Ror's comment, all the people who made the "midget Bane" jokes for the past year will look like complete fools when this comes out.

"Tom Hardy Initially Felt He Wasn't The Best Choice For Bane"

He was not alone with that feeling. And yes, he is still a midget Bane. Like there are pygmy elephants and miniature dobermans.

His performance is one thing...his appearance in the film is another. He may play the part well but he looks NOTHING like the comic book character. Me, I'd rather have a strong performance than a spot on appearance.

@Gmoney84 agreed, and I think he's closer to his comic book counterpart in terms of personality.

I'm sure he'll be great. I still would have liked to see Javier Bardem as Bane though.

Bane was originally depicted as Batman's physical equal, who manipulated Batman into exhaustion and beat him at his weakest point. He was taller than Batman but never towering.

Hell, Venom doesnt even increae the users size, that was only added when Bane became more a hired muscle gimmick. Originally, Venom only gave the user increased strength and stanima. Batman even used it himself for a time before he detoxed.

i cant believe some people on this site would sacrifice a characters performs and acting just so they can see a character look exactly like it does on screen as in the comics. Quality of quantity. what i love about nolans movies and what captures the attention of the audiences the most is these actors performances and there character relationships with one another. outside this CMB community very few people actually know who bane is or what he looks like so whats the point. it would look ridiculous to have a guy in a wrestling mask and skin tight spandex suit lol. as for the size i havent really heard any reviewers complain about that, not a big deal.

I'm sure he'll do well, but it had better be the greatest performance to ever grace the screen for all the changes they made to Bane. Enough with the realism. Ra's al ghul is going to be like 4 inches taller than Bane. Taller than Bane!
IronManFTW
IronManFTW - 7/19/2012, 1:06 PM
There was also no reason they couldn't have put a little effort into using camera tricks or cgi to enhance the look of the character.
