FAN CAST: Thundercats By THEHAWK

FAN CAST: Thundercats By THEHAWK

My first cast in quite a while, go easy on me.

A cast based off of the amazing Thundercats series from the 80's

Here is a cast that is close to my heart. It is of one of my favorite shows from when I was a kid. It is of course the THUNDERCATS

Catchy ain’t it? It’ll be stuck in your head all day!

Lion-O- Scott Speedman

The leader, and the hereditary "Lord of the ThunderCats." Lion-O, based on the lion, wields the legendary Sword of Omens, able to fire bolts of energy and allow Lion-O to see across great distances with its power of "Sight Beyond Sight," and the Claw Shield, a gauntlet that launches grappling lines from its claws. Very handsome, as described by Cheetara. A mere child of twelve years old at the time of Thundera's destruction, Lion-O aged to adulthood during the trip to Third Earth when his suspension capsule failed to prevent him from aging too much, a malfunction that did not occur with WilyKat and WilyKit, who were around the same age as himself, though as Lion-O recalls in the series' first episode, his mentor Jaga had mentioned that some aging does take place while in the Suspension Capsules in which he and the other Thundercats were placed when their flagship was damaged. Lion-O assumed that this was the reason for his aging to adulthood, though he did not express any confusion regarding why WilyKat and WilyKit had not also aged as he had, which seems to indicate that he simply accepted it as a quirk of the capsules. Although cunning and skillful, he is truly a child in a man's body, and throughout the series, must learn what it takes to become a true leader and gain true maturity.

Scott Speedman has had an iffy career over the years, btu I think that this is the perfect role for him to truly shine in and deliver his true potential as an actor. My second choice would be Sam Whisperington

Jaga- Ed Harris

Known as “Jaga the Wise,” based on the jaguar, this elder warrior was once regarded as the greatest of all ThunderCats. An adviser and protector of the Lord’s family, it was Jaga who gathered the nobles of the ThunderCats to escort Lion-O and the Eye of Thundera to safety, but in his aged condition, he did not survive the trip to Third Earth. However, Jaga does reappear on Third Earth as a spirit — seen only by Lion-O at first, to guide him in his lessons and adventures. At times, he appears before the other ThunderCats as well, such as when facing down Grune the Destroyer, and when the ThunderCats need to rescue their fellow Thundereans. When he was alive, Jaga also wielded the Sword of Omens and was a formidable fighter in combat.

Harris may not necessarily have the build, but he does have the skill to act as Lion-O’s force ghost mentor in an Obi Wan sort of way.

Tygra- Karl Urban (Hardest to cast!)

A staunch, level-headed warrior, based on the tiger, Tygra is known as the ThunderCat architect and scientist. He is the one Lion-O often turns to as second-in-command and for counsel. He is responsible for the design of all of the ThunderCat structures on Third Earth — the Cat’s Lair and the Tower of Omens. He is also gifted with "mind-power" — the ability to create life-like illusions in other people’s minds; he used this for Lion-O’s Anointment Trial, but it puts a great strain on him. He uses a whip-like bolas in combat, with which he can render himself invisible to the naked eye. In the episode "All That Glitters," Lion-O instructs Tygra, "If I do not return, you will be the new Lord of the ThunderCats." This verifies that indeed, Tygra is the second-in-command. Where creators Ted Wolf and Leonard Starr described Panthro's character as being based on "strength" and Cheetara's character as being based on "speed," Tygra's character was described as being based on "integrity."

This was the single hardest role to cast on here! Tygra was one of my least favorite characters when I was a kid, but looking back he was the most level headed of the group. Urban is an amazing actor and could easily pull off this role!

Panthro- Dennis Haysbert

The next noble and also the second eldest after Jaga (until Lynx-O is introduced), based on the panther, this warrior is the chief mechanic/engineer and pilot for the ThunderCats. He is also physically the strongest and is a cunning warrior in combat, relying as much on martial arts as on physical strength. With Tygra’s help, he builds all of the vehicles the ThunderCats use on Third Earth — including the ThunderTank, the Feliner and the ThunderClaw, ThunderStrike and HoverCat. A jovial soul, he is, however, also quick to lose his temper and has a paralyzing fear of bats and a dislike of spiders. In combat, he uses a pair of chained fighting sticks (nunchaku) with open-away cat-paws, which house several chemical spray-compounds that he can use against foes. The spikes on his chest bands can be used like projectile weapons or as rappelling lines.

I know I know, you are going to say “But he is so old!” or “Hey HAWK why do you cast this guy in everything?” Well he isn’t too old and he is an amazing actor! To me he is the epitome of Bad-Ass and Panthro was always my favorite character. Vin Diesel would be my second choice.

Cheetara- Jessica Biel

A female warrior, based on the cheetah, who is the only adult female ThunderCat (until the later appearance of Pumyra). She is as lovely as she is brave and caring. Often a voice of reason, she is also the bearer of a budding "sixth sense," detecting when something is unsafe or if evil is near. This precognitive sense, which Cheetara regards as a curse for the most part, also allows her to perceive visions — whether involuntary or by forcing herself — but can leave her very weak; she may require days to regain her strength. She has incredible speed, once clocked at 120 m.p.h. on a morning jog. She can maintain this speed only for brief periods, but with it, she is very fast in combat. Her weapon of choice is a bo staff that can grow or shrink to variable lengths. When not in use, it is attached to her left armband. One episode found Cheetara mentally linked to an alien life form - a ship which had tapped into her 'sixth sense.' It was hinted that she had, at one point, developed romantic feelings towards Lion-O; yet the subject never came up after this episode, and the matter was dropped from the series altogether.
As revealed in the comics, besides being the prettiest of the ThunderCats, Cheetara is by far the best swimmer among them; in fact, she alone doesn't mind getting wet from time to time. ("...I'll never understand why the other Cats don't like the water...")

Biel is hot and can act, Cheetarah inspired an entire generation of Furry fetishists… Biel can start on the new generation. lol

WilyKit and WilyKat- Abigail Breslin and Jimmy Bennett

Twin siblings (Kat, the boy, and Kit, the girl) who are the youngest members of the ThunderCat team, both based on the wildcat; they are technically and jointly referred to by the others as "ThunderKittens." They are the mischief-makers, and often have their own lessons to learn alongside Lion-O while they live on Third Earth, where they frequently use tricks and traps to combat evil. Kit is the more adventurous, while Kat usually errs on the side of caution. Kit also appears to be the more agile, and at times, she employs a rolling-attack against the enemy. Their agility is often displayed when they ride their "space boards" — specially designed flying devices shaped like Earth surfboards that can carry them over long distances. Each uses special capsules, balls and other gimmick weapons carried in pouches and on their belts. They sometimes use slingshots to fire these at the Mutants or other foes. They also carry trick lariats, with which they can either tangle and ensnare foes, or use to pull themselves out of danger. In the first episode, they appeared to be slightly older than Lion-O, but when they went into suspended animation, they did not age as far in their suspension capsules as Lion-O did in his. WilyKit is the elder of the twins

Breslin is an amazing up and coming actress, I suggest you check out some of her work, she will be one to watch for. She has mainly done serious stuff so far, but we got to see a little bit of her mischievous side in Zombieland and that glimpse was enough for me to know that she would do amazingly in this role!

Jimmy Bennett may be known to you as a young James Kirk from the new Star Trek, or from Orphan. Honestly his brief role in Star Trek made me immediately think of Wilykat (weird, I know) and was the reason I actually finished this cast. He would do a great job in the role.

Both actors are 13, and the Wily’s are about that age as well.

Snarf- Ryan Reynolds

An elder Snarf, properly known by his name Osbert, which he hates, Snarf served as a nursemaid and protector for Lion-O when he was a boy. After Lion-O grew up, Snarf found that often Lion-O didn’t want to have him "mothering" or protecting him. Still, Snarf has remained loyal to Lion-O and the other ThunderCats. At times, he does come through in a pinch with an idea and takes action when it is needed. Despite his age, he does keep up with the others. Even though not a fighter by skill or nature, Snarf is very agile (he boasts he can outplay anyone at tailbail or kick-the-bucket). He also can communicate with other animals on Third Earth to enlist their help in his tasks.

Okay, quit laughing and let me explain. Ryan Reynolds said in an interview (I think with Wizard magazine) a long time ago that Snarf was his favorite cartoon character and he would like to play him. Honestly, if there is actually someone in this world that actually wants to be Snarf I say we let them.

Mumm-Ra – Ron Perlman

The chief villain and antagonist against the ThunderCats, the demon-priest Mumm-Ra is the self-proclaimed "ever-living source of evil" on Third Earth, having powers of sorcery and an apparently unlimited lifespan. He is, in fact, a bound servant to the Ancient Spirits of Evil (represented by four anthropomorphic statues, resembling oversized twisted mockeries of Egyptian canopic jars, within the burial chamber of his pyramid), who provide him with increased power and virtual immortality to further his pursuit of spreading their dark influence throughout Third Earth.

Residing within the Black Pyramid amid the ruins of what appears to be an ancient Egyptian civilization, Mumm-Ra exists in a decayed, weakened form that must return to a stone sarcophagus to replenish his energy. When leaving the pyramid, he can summon the power to transform himself into a more vigorous form: Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living by reciting the famous incantation: "Ancient spirits of evil, transform this decayed form to Mumm-Ra, the Ever-Living!". While in this form, Mumm-Ra possesses superhuman strength, the ability to fly, as well as fortification of his mystical might — casting spells, throwing energy bolts, etc. — to battle his foes. He can also alter his physical form into a variety of alter-egos to deceive his enemies.

Easiest choice of all. I didn’t even have to think on this one, it was the first choice I cast.

Well let me know what you think.

Welcome back! you gave us a scare there! Im glad you are well. I wish you and ThePhoenix a...

I love your casts! Where do you get the inspiration from? I loved them all but maybe Liono not too much. I cant put my finger on it.. (and maybe Seth Rogan as snarf?) but I still think this was Fantastic. I especially liked Jessica Biel and Karl Urban and Panthro and the Wily Kit and Kat and Jaga. Awww crap I loved it all! But hey its Hawk!

I loved this show as a kid too. Seeing your cast makes me want to see it again and see this actual movie with this fancast. You still got the touch baby! =)

You had me at Ed Harris.

This is a great cast Hawk, and this is coming from someone who didn't even watch Thundercats that much.

Haysbert as Panthro is awesome. Pure, unadulterated, awesome.

I don't like Speedman a whole lot, but I'd give him a chance to prove his talent.

Oh, and I did a Green Lantern/Justice League cast a few days ago, it's a few down in fan fic, I'd like to get your opinion. And welcome back :)
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 12:28 AM
@KeepItReal. Thanks, glad ot be back. I hope you and yours are good and had a happy New Year!

I'm glad you liked it.

This was my favorite as a kid, they don't make shows like this anymore...I miss the 80s[wipes tear from eye]

I'm not sure where my inspiration comes from, classic rock, Jack Daniels... I'll play it safe and say PHOENIX is my inspiration ;)

and thank you, I was worried I had lost the touch.

@Tyler. Thanks man, Speedman is an odd choice, I surprised myself with that one. I think given a chance he could pull it off though.

I actually tried leaving a comment on your GL casting earlier, but I couldn't for some reason, and I still can't. I do like it however. I thought it was well done, I would change a few, but as with most of our casting disagreements it is a personal issue like out Mystique picks.

Thanks guys!

Welcome back Hawk. I haven't been posting all that long but have been on this site for some time and always enjoy reading your stuff! I like Speedman as your choice. I am not a photoshop guy but a pic from underworld and change the dark blue/black to shades of yellow and you've got yourself Lion-O

Thundercats Ho!

Great fancast (again) @Hawk!!! I never really watched much of the Thundercats, but still you are the god of Fancasts!!!

THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 12:34 AM
@DogsofWar. Thanks man. And Yeah, I'm watching Speedman in Underworld right now actually (I can't sleep cause the pain killers are wearing off) and I see what you mean in that film. Glad you liked the choice though.

@TheCritic. Thanks man!

Hawk: Oh, that's odd. Anyway, glad you liked it.

Like I said, I'd give Speedman a chance, I do agree he is an odd choice, but he could possibly be a good fit for the role, if he got a shot.
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 12:45 AM
@Tyler. Yeah, and that would probably be a pretty big if, but I think he could pull it off nicely.

DogsOfWar - 1/2/2010, 12:52 AM
Hey Hawk (or anyone for that matter). Speaking of 80's cartoons, do you remember Star Blazers? They are making a Japanese live action. Its a dead ringer for the cartoon. I just posted it on news
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 12:58 AM
@Critic. Awe come on man, why'd ya have to go there. I would give him a shot at it if he wasn't 5'9" and Australian.

@DogsofWar. I think I might, it was a long time ago...
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 1/2/2010, 1:04 AM
@Hawk: Couldn't help it man... I keep seeing this scene in the movie: Right after Rogers gets his Cap gear for the first time, I can just see the next scene... Worthington is walking (with his squad through enemy territory) with a rifle around his shoulders commanding everyone... I can just see it!!! I do admit though, that his accent does need some work. But, Jackman's tall as Wolverine (who I think is what, 5'5"??), so I think it'd be ok. He just needs to get some help with the accent.
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 1/2/2010, 1:07 AM
Hey, were you ever able to get back/redo (hopefully you didn't have to) your 600-700 fancast?? Just being curious... it sounded AWESOME!!!
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 1:20 AM
@Critic. Well, I will be attemting to redo the 600+ casting, the original got lost when my computer crashed. made me sad ;.(

And I just can't see Worthington as Cap, he just doesn't have that all American good ol boy feel to him that Cap does. And the WOlverine argument, well in that case Jackman's height worked in the runts favor, but Cap being 5'9" when he is supposed to be an example of human perfection? Doesn't feel right to me.

CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 1/2/2010, 1:30 AM
@Hawk: That sucks about the fancast... but it will probably be the best one yet. Any hints on what its about??

I can see your point about Worthington..., and I also think that Jackman being taller is better than having someone small be Wolverine.

Once I finally get some time to do one, I will be doing a 20-30 Marvel reboot fancast. I shall attempt to recast Wolverine and Iron Man!!! As well as others...

Long avatar... its cool though!!
InTylerWeTrust
InTylerWeTrust - 1/2/2010, 1:31 AM
I guess it's not a good time to mention I changed my Cap choice to 5'10" Matt Damon, is it? *nervous laughing*

:)
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 1/2/2010, 1:36 AM
@Tyler: I could actually see Damon as Cap though... But not as much as SAM WORTHINGTON!!! Still though, I'd go see a Cap movie with Damon in it... he'd be a cool Cap!
THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 1:41 AM
@Critic. Tell me about it! And you can probably guess what it is, there aren't too many things that have 600+ characters.

@Tyler. Well, Damon is actually a talented actor, and that makes up for the hieght. If he were a few years younger I would be perfectly happy with him as Cap.
THEPHOENIX
THEPHOENIX - 1/2/2010, 1:46 AM

Oh well, I gotta drag Hawk's heavy ass to bed, night Boys.
CRITIC17
CRITIC17 - 1/2/2010, 1:48 AM
@Hawk: I'd say either two very big groups...

Who do you think could replace Wolverine (thats the only one that troubled me, I actually found a semi-suitable replacement for Iron Man).

@Tyler: Your another fantastic caster on here... Who do you think could replace Wolverine as well???

Aww crap!!! I gotta hit the sack too!!! It's almost four and I gotta get up in about 4 hours... Greattttt....

The Critic has left the building (been awhile since I said that)...
Phinehas
Phinehas - 1/2/2010, 2:10 AM
Ron Perlman, a man "who's face is made for prosthetics." I don't know if MummRa should be played by a physical person. He should definitely be played somebody in his frail and "decayed form". But I vote CGI for MummRa. He towered over Lion-O by 3 feet.

How do you know Panthro is second oldest? I don't remember that being revealed. I always assumed it to be Tygra that was eldest of the nobles.
BTW, does any one remember Tygra getting duped and drugged all the time?
I don't care for Haysbert to be Panthro. I don't feel it. I'd go for Kevin Grevioux who was in Underworld like Speedman.
Don't like Biel, or Harris for those roles.
Speedman's good and so is Urban.
DDD
DDD - 1/2/2010, 2:40 AM
Hey, Critic@ Hawk@(great to see you on here Hawk@) I
got a guy to play Wolvie! Christian Kane from Angel!
He's a short 5'9" and is already playing a guy with
Logan's personality on LEVERAGE" on TNT on TV.

On the show he is a hitman/strongarm who helps the
group of modern day Robin Hoods right wrongs done to
people by those above the law like evil Corporations,
CEO'S, politicians, etc.! He's got big arms, I mean
really big biceps! He's the spitting image of Logan
and he's not a giant like Jackman (6'2").

BTW, Logan is listed at Marvel as 5'3". He's REALLY short
and should be played by a short muscular man.
Christian Kane is just that man!

See, I was thinking Kingsley for Jaga. What about Claudus, Lion-O's father? I'm thinking William Hurt or Ed Harris.

Or the rogue Thundercat, Grune the Destroyer? Maybe Jeff Bridges.
TheMyth

Hawk, bro, send me an E-Mail with your new address. Mine hasn't changed.

I'm about to drop a CBM bomb of a confession... you all ready... I have never liked the Thundercats, not even in my youth. I know, there is something wrong with me, but GI Joe, TMNT, He-man, and She-ra were my preferred toons as a child. Nonetheless, I gotta put my 2 cents in on a Hawk casting.

I just have 1 question, why should I accept Scott Speedman as the leader of the group? Panthero was my favorite also. Tygra seemed like a fag and I never like the cliche-leader types.
Phinehas
Phinehas - 1/2/2010, 12:41 PM
Are you familiar with the backstory of the show, Myth? Lion-o was an adolescent boy that skipped (through suspended animation on the journey to third earth) the formative years into manhood, who also happened to be the heir to the monarchy of Thundera (home planet). He wasn't put in that position for his wisdom, leadership skills, and especially not for experience. Much of the Thundercat sub-story was the Thundercats grooming him for anointment as Lord of the Thundercats.
That was part of the draw of the show for kids I think. He was a boy in a man's body. And he had to grow up quick. Real quick.
As for Tygra he was a bit more stoic and reserved. He was a bit of a nerd and not necessarily prone to demonstrating his brawn. I must say, how is it that you found Tygra to be a bit of a fag, but liked He-Man?

THEHAWK
THEHAWK - 1/2/2010, 1:20 PM
@Critic. Kane would have been my suggestion as well, he was born for the role.
Wolvie is a short mother. I’ve noticed in the past few years, they have been drawing him taller. I mean in an X-Force comic they had him looking Warpath in the eye!

@Phin. Well, he could voice Mumm-Ra then I suppose. Oh and they say in the comics and show that Panthro was the second eldest. I have Greivoux cast as another character in their world.

@DDD. Thanks man, that means a lot to me! I gotta give props to Myth and Shaman for inspiring me ot write. And I concur with your purr ;)

@Multi. WOW! I have never seen that before, it is awesome!
Vin looks awesome as Panthro. Snarf could come out as a Jar Jar, but if he is done write he could be what he always was, the lifeblood of the team. I wrote a fn fic, which was lost when my computer got a virus. But in the story I gave Snarf a good role. It was emotional and a tear jerker to some. Snarf!

@LEEE. Same here bro, I can’t comment on some of the articles either! Glad you liked it though. And Vin is starting to look pretty good. As Panthro I mean.

@Anil. I am actually thinking of Kingsley for another role in the series, I will probably do another fan cast for this with him in it.

@BatmanKnight. Thanks man, and I have read the story and liked it. I will leave a comment on it in a bit!

@MYTH. Good to have you back bud! I am using Jen’s e-mail at the moment, I think you have it, if not I will contact you with her e-mail.
You don’t like Thundercats!!! It had my second favorite opening of any cartoon! My favorite being
X-Men the animated series. I want a She-Ra movie now :P
And I think Speedman is a good fit for Lion-O because he, like Lion-O, would have to earn your acceptance. And Panthro was the coolest on the show.

@dellamorte. Thanks man. I plan to make a second casting with the Mutants and the new Thundercats.

@PHin. Good analysis and funny!

I like the idea of ron pearlman as the big form of mumraa but think we need a decrepid version too...
And @ Phinehas yeah man i remember Tygra being drugged all the time...the weird plant thing underground he got addicted to...im sure that episode was hinting drugs are bad.lol

I know the accident messed up how you were going to release it before.
