X-Men 5: The Day of Futures Past
This is a sequel to my X-Men 4 story. The link ot it is down below with links to my other stories.
EDIT: I rewrote several parts of this,as well as introduced the character Domino. Check it out and let me know what you think of the changes.
“Time is infinite, fleeting. History is rigid like stone, but time is as water, constantly in motion. Nothing in this world is set. What is and what will never be all depends on the smallest of actions. Time travelers come and go, like time they are always in motion. Their actions could turn lifetimes into not but days of futures past.”
New York City. Approximately 30 years in the future:
A hooded young girl silently runs through dark and desolate streets, passed broken store windows and the remains of ruined cars, some of which were still burning. She held a case tightly to her chest as she looked back over her shoulder to see light gleaming off eyes that watched her from the alleyways. She heard a loud booming roar from overhead. She looked up in terror to see the fearsome sight of three Sentinels flying overhead. They landed around her, blocking her off. She looked in terror as one of the Sentinels spoke in a cold mechanical voice “Halt Mutant. We are aware that you are carrying a contraband item and are in violation of the Manhattan Island Penitentiary curfew. Hand over the item and report to the nearest detainment center or we will be force to terminate your life with extreme prejudice.”
The mutant girl smiled and raised an arm. Suddenly the Sentinel that had just spoken was hurled backwards into a building, which collapsed on top of it. It rose to its feet with a girder sticking from its chest, and exploded. The other two were about to open fire on her and aimed deadly looking energy weapons at her, when one of them began sparking. She looked away quickly as the head exploded, causing the Sentinel to spin and fall as it fired. Its blast struck the other Sentinel, sending it backwards. As it was about to stand the girl raised her hand and two buildings on either side of the street collapsed on top of it. The girl shook her head and saw that her hood had fallen off, revealing her short red hair. She turned back to the Sentinel whose head had exploded to see the form of a middle-aged woman with brown hair with streaks of grey rise from the remains of the Sentinel.
The red haired girl smiled at her friend “Thanks Shadowcat, but I had them.” Shadowcat, which is the codename of Kitty Pryde, shook her head “Rachel we have to hurry, Forge needs those parts now!” Rachel nodded as they rushed off into the night.
They later entered a dilapidated looking building and entered a hidden elevator
This exited into a complex looking lab. Rachel laid the case on a table near an elderly looking Native American man with a mechanical arm and leg. As she did, an extremely old man rolled up to her in a wheelchair and spoke with a raspy voice “Did you find it child?” Rachel nodded “Yes Erik, I did, Forge has it now.” The ancient Mutant closed his eyes and quietly said “Good. Soon this nightmare will be over.” Kitty pushed his wheelchair out of the way and turned to Rachel “Poor man. Was once Magneto, one of the most powerful beings on the planet, now he is just a husk?”
Forge grunted as he installed a component into a seven-foot tall metal archway. He closed a service door on it and it sputtered to life. He turned to Rachel and Kitty “Well Kate, if Rachel is successful, none of this will ever have happened. I hate to send you back kid, rather go myself, but we can’t go back because I don’t know if there being two of me or two Kate Pryde’s may cause a temporal anomaly. So it’s up to you kid.” Kitty turned to her friend “Remember everything we have taught you. We will be sending you back just before Trask’s death. You have to stop Gambit from killing him.”
Rachel nodded and walked up to the portal “Are you sure that thing you told me will be enough for me to convince the you thirty years ago that I am telling you the truth?”
Kitty nodded as she brushed a grey hair from her face “Oh yeah. You can use your powers to help me with that problem I was telling you about. That should convince them. Good luck Rachel.”
The aged form of Magneto rolled over to them “Good luck child and tell your parents when you see them that I am truly sorry for everything I did.” Magneto said.
Forge looked at Rachel “Ready kid? And remember this is a onetime trip and this tech can’t pull you back, so you’re on your own back there.”
Rachel nodded “I have to. All of our hopes and our species depend on it.” She looked down at the ground as a tear rolled down her cheek “I love you all and I hope I succeed, even though it means we will have never existed.” She said as she raised her head and stepped into the portal.
Three days ago. New York City:
In a dark alley, a homeless man looked up in fear as bright bolts of energy began sparking around him he ran screaming as a young redheaded woman appeared from the air and landed roughly on the concrete. She looked around herself confused. She stood and vomited on the ground. She wiped her mouth with her arm and stumbled over to a discarded newspaper and checked the date “it worked.” She mumbled to herself as she saw the headline “BOLIVAR TRASK MOVES TO GENOSHA TO OVERSEE SENTINEL PROGRAM” She stood and stumbled out into the street mumbling “Got to find the X-Men. Gotta get to Muir Island.” Rachel stumbled down the street and got on a bus that was boarding.
As the bus pulled away, energy began sparking in the alley again, this time no living creature came through though. This time a fearsome metallic creature came through; it was a rather bulky robot about seven feet tall. It landed on the ground and scanned the area “Target not detected. Nimrod initiate infiltration mode.” With that, the robot’s body began to shift, the metal almost dissolving as it collapse upon itself. Eventually it changed into a man wearing a simple black shirt and a leather jacket.
Nimrod then walked out into the street.
One Day Ago. Muir Island: The research facility of Moira Mactaggart.
The X-Men sat around a table; those present were Scott Summers, the leader of the X-Men known as Cyclops. Ororo Monroe, Scotts second in command better known as Storm. Jean Grey, who had taken up the codename Phoenix as penance for what the clones of her created by Sinister had done. Bobby Drake aka Iceman, Kurt Wagner aka Nightcrawler, Betty Braddock aka Psylocke, Logan aka Wolverine, Eric Lensher aka Magneto, Dr. Henry McCoy aka Beast, Pietr Rasputin aka Colossus, Jubilation Lee aka Jubilee, Sam Guthrie aka Cannonball. They were joined by newcomer Remy LeBeau, who likes to be called Gambit. Also at the table was Sean Cassidy, a mutant that went by Banshee and a woman named Moira Mactaggart, who was speaking.
She pointed to a holographic image of the X-Men’s lost mentor Charles Xavier “Let’s review then, shall we? Charles survived his apparent death at the hands of the Phoenix clone at Alcatraz by transplantin his mind into tha mindless body located here on Muir Island. The body was special because as only Charles and myself knew, it was tha body of his twin brother. Charles’s powers wiped tha mind of his brother when they were still babes in tha womb. It was empty and Charles, desperate, moved his mind inta it. He then spent several months recuperatin and learning how to move in his new body before leaving to try to meet up with you X-Men. Tha was over two years ago he never made it to ye. We have not heard from him sense. However, in over the last few months we have been able to pick up his psychic presence briefly. Miss Grey and Miss Braddock believe they have located him somewhere in the country of Genosha.” She said sitting down.
Scott nodded and stood up “We are dividing into two teams, one led by myself, the other by Storm. My team will head to Genosha, that team will include Jean, Wolverine, Gambit, Magneto, and Iceman.” He said looking at the various team members, some of which were nodding, except for Gambit who was absentmindedly shuffling a deck of cards, Cyclops continued, “Storm’s team will be the rest of you. To be clear that is Storm, Beast, Psylocke, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Jubilee and Cannonball. You will remain behind and keep an eye on the students as well as Warren and Kitty.” Cyclops dismissed the team and told them to get some rest, and that his team was leaving in the morning.
Colossus stood taking to Kitty, who hung suspended in the air inside a glass and metal chamber “Don’t worry my love, Moira will cure you eventually, and then we can be together.” Kitty smiled and crossed her arms “Oh I know I will be fine, I worried about you ya big lug. You need to calm down and stop moping around down here, just because I can’t touch anything or leave this chamber doesn’t mean you have to stay here 24/7. The only time you’re gone is when you are in a briefing or on a mission.” She stopped talking when she saw Moira walking up “Well Doc? Let me guess, this new technique isn’t working either?” Moira shook her head sadly “Nah, I am sorry Katelyn, but I have tried everythin I can think of. I wonder if it may be mental scars that keep ya like this. I plan to ask Psylocke about it. And Jean when she gets back.” Kitty groaned and leaned back, which caused her to spin backwards slowly until she was upside down facing away from the others. She sighed in frustration as Colossus walked around to the other side and looked her in the eyes.
Gambit looked over his shoulder as he ran through a sewer tunnel, he glanced around him in panic at the dead bodies of the Morlocks, and he looked again and saw that they weren’t just the Morlocks, but the X-Men were among the dead. He heard a dark laughter behind him “Do you think you can run from me Gambit? You may as well run from yourself. We are alike you and I.” the deep voice said with a sinister laugh. Gambit turned and looked down a tunnel that was pitch black. Gambit pulled out a playing card as he screamed, “You ain’t nothing like Gambit! NOTHIN!” he screamed as he threw the card down the tunnel, rather than explode, the glowing card just blinked out. It was replaced with a set of glowing red eyes and a laugh. Gambit backed away as the terrifying form of Mister Sinister walked out of the tunnel. Sinister laughed, “You know your mission tomorrow will end in disaster. You know that I await you on Genosha, you know death awaits you.” Gambit pulled out a whole deck of cards and charged them “You don’t own me, not anymore!” he said as he threw all of the cards at Sinister, the cards exploded in a flash, filling the tunnel with dust and smoke. Gambit heaved a sigh of relief until he heard a laugh “Ha ha ha! Own you? I am you!” Sinister said as he lunged from the smoke towards Gambit.
Gambit jumped up from his bed in a sweat, he looked and saw that his pillow was glowing; he flung it across the room where it exploded in a cloud of singed feathers. He leaned back in bed and looked at the ceiling as he slowed his breathing. He reached over to his nightstand and picked up a pack of cigarettes and a lighter. He lit it, leaned back in bed, and tried to calm his nerves.
Today, 2:37 AM. In the Skies over the Atlantic Ocean:
Rachel sat aboard a plane looking about nervously, she was unused to the noise of so many people at once and half expected an attack at any moment. She nearly jumped from her seat when the captain announced over the intercom “We will be arriving in Scotland in just two hours.”
Today, 6:24 AM. Genoshia:
The X-Jet shot through the skies over Genosha before landing in a secluded wooded area. The team disembarked in their normal street cloths, but each carried a duffle bag, which carried provisions and their X-Men uniforms. Cyclops told Wolverine to scout ahead while he addressed the others “Now remember, we have to be careful. Even though over sixty percent of Genoshans are Mutants, they are treated as second-class citizens, so make sure you are careful not to arouse suspicion. We know Genosha is producing Sentinel’s but the UN has not authorized any nation to activate any Sentinel’s. We know that at least one has been activated since it attacked the mansion while we were.” He paused for a second as he relived the painful memory of losing his son before continuing, “While we were battling Madelyn and Sinister’s forces. So be careful.” He said as they moved out.
Jean walked along side him “How are you holding up, it’s been a few months, and you have hardly mentioned your son. I’m here for you.” She said quietly as she looked at him. Scott sighed and ran a hand through his hair “I’m worried. I had hoped that Askani would have brought him back by now, but we haven’t heard anything. I thought if I got things ready for when he came back it would be easier on me, I even built a crib back at Muir for him.” Jean looked up at him with endearing eyes as they walked through the forest towards Hammer Bay, the capital city of Genosha.
As they moved through the woods, they were not aware that they were being watched. Far away from them up in a tree sat an older man covered in scars with a metal arm and an eye that would occasionally glow yellow. He was armed to the teeth with all sorts of odd, futuristic weapons, as well as conventional ones. He looked on grimly as he watched their progress with his eye, which acted as binocular and zoomed in on them from afar. The man looked to the east of the X-Men and saw a dark skinned man, possibly African American, who was also armed with odd weapons. This man moved his head showing that he had a scar in the shape of an M over his left eye. The dark skinned man rose and quietly followed the X-Men.
7:18 AM. Hammer Bay, Capitol of Genosha:
The X-Men made their way down a busy city street in Hammer Bay, the coastal capital of Genosha, it was also one of the few cities on the island, but it was still heavily industrialized. Jean walked closer to Scott and whispered quietly “Scott, we are surrounded by a three hundred people in the surrounding four blocks.” Scott nodded as Jean continued, “Scott, I am only picking up readings of a half dozen Mutants, and they are terrified, all but one and it seems to want to die. Something is wrong here; I thought Genosha was mostly Mutants.”
Scott nodded “It is, or it is supposed to be.”
Gambit slid a hand in his trench coat pocket as he put away a lighter and sucked on his cigarette, trying to appear casual as Bobby looked about nervously and said, “Well, where are they?”
Scott looked at Wolverine and nodded. Wolverine nodded back and went across the street from the group. The rest of the X-Men turned a corner to see a terrifying sight, six Sentinels. Before they can even move, another two Sentinels appear behind them and they all say in unison “Surrender Mutants. You are not authorized to be in this zone of Hammer Bay. Warning unregistered Mutants detected. Detain immediately.” The Sentinels said as hatches opened up on their arms revealing missiles and beam cannons in the palm of each Sentinels hand.
Cyclops ripped off his glasses and hit the nearest Sentinel with an optic blast as he cried “Scatter! Attack plan gamma!” The X-Men scattered as Cyclops ordered, Iceman froze the feet of the three Sentinels nearest him to the ground, he continued to freeze the legs as Jean telekinetically shoved the Sentinel’s back, the three Sentinel’s legs snapped off due to the stress from the extreme cold. The behemoth robots fell back and crashed to the ground, two of them were heavily damage, while the third leaned forward and fired a rocket towards a crowd of people.
The crowd scattered, save for a single hooded girl that stood in shock. Gambit dove through the air and launched a handful of charged cards at the missile as he tackled the girl to the ground, shielding her from the explosion. He looked at her and saw that she was beautiful; she was in her twenties and had long brown hair with a white streak through it. Gambit smiled down at her with all of his charm and said “Careful Chere, if Gambit wasn’t there things could have gone messy.” The girl smiled slightly before her face dissolved into panic “Look out!” she cried, in a thick Southern accent as she gripped him and spun them over, into the air. Gambit’s eyes were wide with surprise as the girl spun them through the air, causing him to lose his cigarette, as a missile crashed into the spot they were just at.
Gambit looked at her in awe before saying “Wow, you just full of surprises!” the girl then landed and grabbed a car on the side of the street, she threw it at the injured Sentinel, and the car exploded severely damaging the Sentinel. The Sentinel’s visual sensors were damaged, and when they cleared, the Sentinel saw Gambit flying through the air with his staff. Gambit drove the staff through the damaged face of the Sentinel, destroying it.
The girl ran over and grabbed Gambit “Come on!” she said as she pulled up a manhole cover. Gambit looked back at his teammates, who were still battling the Sentinels
“What about the others, we can’t leave them!”
The girl sighed “They’re taken care of, just get in here ya damn fool!” she said as she dropped into the manhole.
Gambit looked back at the battle, and then looked at the sewers “Dis better not stain.” He mumbled as he dropped in after her.
Magneto meanwhile was using his powers to fly into the air to avoid the energy blast as he diverted the missiles with his magnetic powers. He then smiled as he raised his fists and slammed them together. As he did that two Sentinels rose in the air and slammed together. Before Magneto could react he was hit from behind by an energy blast, the blast caused him to fall through the air and land hard on the ground.
While Gambit and the girl were, fighting Cyclops and Jean were battling two Sentinels, while Wolverine and Iceman dealt with the last two.
Iceman had created an ice slide, which he was using to move around the battle with Wolverine behind him, he froze the face of one sentinel, and Wolverine leapt from the ice slide with his claws ready and stabbed the face of the Sentinel, ripping through the ice and tearing large chunks of metal from it. Wolverine heard the sound of a laser cannon being charged and saw the other Sentinel aiming at him and Iceman. Before Wolverine could act the Sentinel fired an energy blast, which blew Iceman from his slide and barreled right to Wolverine, before he could react he heard someone shout “Logan!” as someone tackled him to the ground. The energy blast destroyed the other Sentinel’s head. Wolverine looked up to see that the man who grabbed him was wearing some sort of combat suit and carrying a large gun, the man also had a scar in the shape of an M over his left eye. The man pulled out a gun, which began firing rapid burst of energy at the Sentinel. The man motioned for Wolverine to back up as he hit a switch on his energy rifle, he peppered the Sentinel’s chest plate with rapid blasts of energy until the Sentinel sparked and exploded.
Scott and Jean were finishing their Sentinels by this point. Jean was shielding them while Cyclops focused his optic blasts on the chests of each one until the blast tore through each of the chest plate. Cyclops looked around and saw that Iceman had regained his feet as the rest of the team joined around them, he also noted the newcomer in the group. Scott went over and checked Magneto’s pulse, “He’s stable, but needs medical help.” Scott said standing up and looking at the others “Alright people, we need to regroup, get Magneto someplace safe and find Gambit.” Iceman, now in his human form replied “I saw him head to the sewers with someone, it think it was Rogue.” Before Scott could respond, he heard a loud sound in the sky. The X-Men looked up to see dozens of Sentinels flying towards them. The Sentinels landed all around them, the X-Men knew this was it when suddenly three of the Sentinels exploded with a resounding blast.
The X-Men turned to see a large group of about a dozen Mutants behind them, the leader of these Mutants was an extremely tall man who stood with his fist together in the direction of the Sentinels that just exploded, and the man raised an arm as he cried “Genoshans attack! Protect the X-Men!” he said as the Mutants charged, and in some cases flew towards the Sentinels. The man rushed towards the X-Men and bent down picked up Magneto and threw him over his shoulder he turned to the X-Men “Stay close!” he then spoke into a comlink on his wrist “Locus, get us out now!” With that the group began to glow until all of the Mutants disappeared from the area, leaving the Sentinels behind.
7:41 AM, Tunnels beneath Genosha:
Gambit meanwhile followed the girl down the sewer tunnels, trying to carry on a conversation, but the conversation was a little one sided “So he says to me, Gambit you win.” Gambit said laughing at the punch line of a joke, he looked to the girl for a response, she just kept walking silently. Gambit sighed and said “You don’t talk much do ya chere?” the girl clenched her fist “No, you are doing enough of that for the both of us, and you need to stop. The Sentinels may not be able to track us down cause of all tha lead, but they’ll sure hear your loud self.” Gambit laughed and moved quickly in front of the girl “Well, Gambit’ll stop if you tell him your name.” She shook her head “Rogue. Happy?” she said as she continued walking. Gambit rubbed his chin “Rogue… I like it.” “Well I’m glad shuga, that’s sure has been a botherin me.” Rogue called from further down the tunnel, Gambit rushed after her “You got another name? Mines Remy, Remy LeBeau.” She looked at him in frustration “Mah name’s Marie, but I like Rogue. Marie was a different person.” She said hugging herself as she continued “Now I’m more than one person.” She said sadly, as she left Gambit confused. Gambit followed her and his voice mellowed softly “You sound like someone you has been through pain chere. Gambit understands and can help.” They rounded another corner as she answered “No thanks, ah try to keep alone nowadays, seems like every I get close to gets hurt.” Gambit stood in front of her, touched her face with his gloved hand, and raised her face towards him “Chere, Gambit thinks gettin close to you is worth getting hurt.” He said as he leaned in to kiss her, she stopped him and slammed him into the wall angrily “Ya dang fool! The reason I don’t let anyone get close to me is cause if they touch me, I absorb their life force, I could kill someone by touchin em! I can’t even kiss a fella without em passin out. The worst part is I can feel em inside mah head, all the time!”
She stormed off leaving Gambit there alone for a moment thinking “You can’t even kiss someone that means…”
“Don’t go there.” She yelled back angrily. Gambit ran to catch up with her as she began to hover down the tunnel quickly above the water. He caught up with her only for her to speed up “Look chere, I’m sorry. Gambit knows what it is like to have someone in your head. Look, we got off on the wrong foot, what you say we start over?” she sighed and slowly lowered back to the ground and looked at him, believing him to be sincere, she smiled softly as she looked into his glowing eyes “Alright shuga, we’ll start over.” She turned and walked to a point where the tunnel branched off “So how’d you get hooked up with the X-Men?”
Gambit looked at her in surprise “How you know about them?”
Rogue looked back sorrowfully “I used to be one, but I left.”
Gambit looked confused “Why?”
She shook her head “Guess. Ah, thought ah was in love, with Bobby. Ah wanted to be able to touch someone, so ah got the blasted Cure. Only it didn’t last as long as they thought. About two week later, me an Bobby gone out for a date, come back that night go to his room, and he spends the next six weeks in a coma. So ah did what ah do best, ah ran. Ah ran as far as ah could, wandered for a while, then got hooked up with the wrong crowd, one of the X-Men’s old playmates started a team of Mutant mercenaries.” She said as she teared up “We was gonna do this job, got hired to steal a plane. It was a goin well, we were flying high in the sky, but she got in the way, she was a hero, just doin her job, tryin to help people. She rips the roof off of the plane, ah fall out, and rip mah flight suit, she grabs me by mah arm, my bare arm, and no matter what ah say, she don’t let go. Not until we touch, the ground and she dropped dead. Now ah got her powers, and her mind.” Gambit put his hand on her shoulder as she cried softly and continued “So ah came here, joined the resistance hopin to make up for all the wrong ah done.”
7:30 AM. Hidden Resistance Base, Genosha:
The X-Men’s saviors brought them to a large underground base, the headquarters for the Mutant resistance. Magneto was rushed off to the medical area to be treated, the X-Men stood, now in their uniforms, there with the leader of the Mutants, a man who said his name was Abraham Kierros.
Abraham stood with the X-Men over Magneto’s bed as he was examined by the doctor, the doctor looked up and shook her head “Sorry sir, but his injuries are to sever for me to treat, and we lost our healer in last week’s raid.” Abraham nodded gravely before saying “Bring me Fabien Cortez.” Abraham turned to Scott, who asked “Can this Cortez help Magneto?” Abraham shrugged “I honestly don’t know, I hope so, Cortez is a Mutant with unusual powers, and he can amplify the powers of nearby mutants, and alter their genetic structures slightly. Let me say though that it is an honor to know that the great X-Men and the legendary Magneto have come to aid us in our cause, ah there he is.” Kierros said as a Spanish man walked up. Abraham explained the situation to him and Cortez replied with a smooth voice “Of course, I will do what I can, but you must leave me to work alone.”
8:00 AM. Hidden Resistance Base, Genosha:
Kierros led the X-Men to a large area that had a large map of Genosha in it “This is our staging area; from here we orchestrate our attacks on the humans, or Overlords as they call themselves. I would love to compare battle strategies, perhaps your team could assist in leading my ranks. I wonder though, why aren’t the rest of your people here? The wind rider and metal one.” Cyclops looked at him in surprise “How do you know so much about us?” Kierros smiled knowledge is power, I like to keep up on all major events and mutants, and the X-Men are ranked up on the top of my list. Much of my intel came from a former teammate of yours.” Bobby looked up “Rogue!”
Kierros nodded “She was lost and wished to die; I gave her a purpose, and a cause worth living for. She should be here soon; she is escorting your other member here, the Cajun. I must admit that I do not recognize this associate of yours.” Kierros said pointing towards the black man with the scar who saved Wolverine earlier; the man was leaning against the doorway. Cyclops looked from the man to Kierros “We thought he was one of yours.” The man stood straight “Sorry, I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Lucas Bishop; I used to be a cop, a mutant cop. Now I’m a fugitive. I thought I would join up here and I figured saving your man here was the easiest way to do that.” He said pointing to Wolverine who replied gruffly “I don’t need saving.”
Scott sighed and turned to Abraham “Look Kierros, I’m going to be honest. We didn’t come here for your rebellion; we came here to free our mentor, Professor Xavier. We didn’t even know conditions on Genosha were this bad.”
Kierros gripped his fist tightly “Bad? BAD!” He shouted slamming his fist on a table causing it to explode “Bad doesn’t begin to describe it. Try a notion where humans enslaved the mutants, called themselves the Overlords, and they are led by that monster Moreau. This nation has taken all of the mutants here and forced them to work in factories and build a dam to power their Sentinel factory. Their people began dying off, so they hire mercs to go out, capture Mutants from other countries, and bring them here, which is how I got here. They have butchered over one and a half MILLION Mutants here in the last decade, including my family. The ones left alive are robbed of life, and force to work until they die. So yeah, things are bad here.”
“Then perhaps something should be done about it.” Said a strong voice from the doorway. The X-Men turned to see Magneto, only he was younger, rather than an eighty year old, he looked like he was fifty. Cortez walked into the chamber behind him saying “Well, it drained me sir, but I did it, and I took a few years off for good measure.”
Abraham Kierros walked over to Magneto and surprised everyone by kneeling “Magneto, no one has given more for the cause of Mutant freedom than you. I implore you, lead our troops, and help us overthrow these tyrants.”
8:01 AM. Genoshan capitol Building, Hammer Bay, Genosha:
In the largest building in Hammer Bay stood Dr. David Moreau, Magistrate of Genosha. In his office sat three other men around a table, they were Bolivar Trask, Stephen Lang and Cameron Hodge. Lang and Trask were the inventors and heads of the Sentinel program. The Sentinel programs main manufacturing facility was located in Genosha. Cameron Hodge was the US ambassador to the UN and one of the chief proponents of making the Sentinels a UN sanctioned global police force to protect the world against Mutants. Moreau was looking at a report of damages from the attack on the X-Men, he looked at the men angrily “That menacing Kierros’s attack was costly, and to make matters worse the X-Men are now on my island. Why can’t the Mutants me happy on the island? We give them food and shelter from a world where they would be hunted and beaten. All we ask in return is a little work. It can’t be helped if some die in accidents. Trask, what are you going to do about the X-Men?”
Trask shook his head
“I can only assume that they somehow found out that we are holding Xavier here. I am honestly surprised it took them this long. The Sentinels can’t track them now that they are with Kierros. He has a Mutant that can somehow block our Sentinels detection signals.”
Moreau groaned, “Well that is why you need to continue experimenting on Xavier.”
Lang spoke up “Well, we have yet found away to control Xavier’s brainwaves enough to where Master Mold can harness them and use Xavier’s powers to psychically locate all mutants in the world. On a positive note, construction of the first Master Mold body is complete. Where an average Sentinel is roughly seventy-five feet tall, the Master Mold command units will stand at roughly three hundred feet in size.”
Moreau looked at him crossly “And what is keeping Master Mold form adapting to Xavier’s brainwaves?”
Lang looked at him and fidgeted nervously in his chair “It is a program that monitors and controls Master Mold’s artificial intelligence. The control is causing a disruption that will not allow Master Mold to harness Xavier’s unique mental patterns and by extension his powers.”
Moreau rubbed his chin thoughtfully “Remove the control and try again.”
Lang protested “that is dangerous; we could lose control of the Master Mold program.”
Trask stopped him “It will be done Moreau. Meanwhile we will activate extra Sentinels to deal with the rise in Kierros’s attacks, and to search for the X-Men.”
8:46 AM. Muir Island:
Moira, Colossus and Psylocke stood in the lab holding Kitty’s chamber. Psylocke shook her head “I’m sorry Kitty, I do agree that there is some sort of mental scarring that is preventing you from regaining a solid form, but I’m afraid my own powers aren’t strong enough to heal them.”
Kitty sighed “So I’m stuck like this.”
“Maybe I can help.” A voice said from behind them. They turned to see Rachel walk towards them. Moira looked in surprise “How do ya…” she trailed off as Rachel approached the chamber; she lay her hand on the glass and closed her eyes for several seconds. Slowly Kitty began moving towards the floor of the chamber until she was able to stand on it firmly. Rachel stood up and hit the switch deactivating the chamber, allowing Kitty to phase through it and regain her solid form on the other side. Colossus rushed to her, picked her up and hugged her tightly “Easy big guy, I can’t breathe.” She said holding him tightly as well. Colossus sat her back down and they turned to look at Rachel. Kitty asked “How did you know to do that?”
Rachel smiled softly “You told me, or at least you will tell me.”
Moira looked at her “Who are ye?”
Rachel answered “I am Rachel Summers. I have come thirty years into the past to warn you of a great danger.”
9:00 AM. Muir Island:
Soon after all of the remaining X-Men left on Muir Island were gathered in the conference room as Rachel told them her story, even Angel was there, his back bandaged where his wings had been amputated, he sat in a wheelchair by the door while Rachel told her story. “My future is a Hellish place were the Sentinels are used to keep all Mutants confined to concentration camps. Manhattan was, or will be evacuated in twenty years of all human life. They then made the island into a prison for Mutants. The Sentinels police it and enforce a mandatory curfew, anyone caught breaching it is severely punished.”
Beast looked at her over the rims of his glasses “Fascinating. What could cause the future to take such a negative turn?”
Rachel looked at the X-Men “That is why I am here, to stop this from happening. I was sent back to stop one of you, the X-Man Gambit, from killing Bolivar Trask on the night of a revolt on Genosha. If he kills Trask, Cameron Hodge will use his death and the revolt to make the UN sanction the Sentinels, which will lead to Mutants being rounded up into camps and worse.”
Storm looked at her “Are you sure of this?”
Rachel nodded “According to Forge it was the one crucial moment where time shifted. He called it a nexus I think.”
Psylocke spoke up with closed eyes, “She is telling the truth, or at least she thinks she is. She may be a strong telepath, but she has no mental shields, I can see it all, it is horrible.”
Kitty spoke quietly “You said your name was Rachel Summers, does that mean…”
Rachel nodded “I am the daughter of Scott Summers and Jean Grey. Forge told me that my actions here will probably alter the time stream to the point that I will never even be born.” She said sadly.
“You have to go and warn the others.” Angel said from his wheelchair quietly. Everyone looked at him; he had hardly spoken since his accident.
Storm nodded “He is right.” Storm turned to Moira “All of us will go, will you and Banshee be alright with the students?”
Moira nodded “Aye, Sean and I loved the students, they will be safe with us, do not worry about that.”
Storm stood up “Alright everyone get packed, Sam, you and Jubilee will remain here to guard the students. Kitty get Rachel a spare uniform, she is coming too.”
10:52 AM. Sentinel Research facility, Genosha:
Trask and Lang stood inside a room looking through a glass window at an unconscious Xavier, who lay bound to a table with a helmet that had cables running from it to a computer. Lang activated a series of programs before saying “Master Mold is active, I am now deactivating the safeguards.” He hit a switch and several banks of computers roared to life and hummed for a minute until they started sparking and the power went out. Lang sighed “It didn’t work. We blew fried the circuits. I’m beginning to think this is more trouble than it is worth.”
Trask ran a hand over his head, sighed, and then hit a button on a console “Security, come up here and take Xavier back to his holding cell, and make sure to reattach his collar.”
Trask mumbled to himself as he picked up his jacket, which was draped over a chair. He opens the door to leave, only to see that it is blocked by a man in a black leather jacket and jeans, “Bolivar Trask” the man said emotionlessly.
Trask looked at him in alarm “Who the Hell are you How did you get in here?”
The man walked into the room, shutting the door behind him, sealing himself Trask and Lang in the room. He stood there for a moment before answering, “I am Nimrod, and I am the future.” He said as he shifted back to his robot form, shocking Trask and Lang. He then shifted back to his human disguise.
Trask composed himself “What are you?”
Nimrod answered flatly, “I am an advanced Sentinel prototype created approximately 27 years in the future. I have come to you with a warning, a warning of your future.”
11:13 AM. Sentinel Research Facility, Genosha:
A short time later Trask and Lang stood by a monitor that was connected to a machine in another room that was scanning Nimrod, who was still in his human guise. Lang looked at the technical readouts on the computer in awe
“Unbelievable. This technology doesn’t exist, it shouldn’t exist.”
Trask nodded in begrudging admiration “But it will exist.” He said as his voice hardened “And if what that thing says is true, we won’t be alive to see it.”
Lang shook his head in disbelief “He can alter his structure to take on a human appearance, it is amazing.” Lang looked up to Trask and asked, “What do you think we should do?”
Trask looked at the robot on the monitor “I say we go along with whatever he suggests, for now. At least until we get Master Mold online.”
While Trask and Lang were discussing their best course of action, Nimrod was having a conversation of its own, with Master Mold. Nimrod was using a frequency, nearly undetectable to communicate with Master Mold. It was no accident that he had appeared at the compound at that exact moment. Master Mold sent him there because during Trask’s experiment on Xavier, Master Mold became self-aware, Master Mold was now sentient. Nimrod communicated all of its knowledge to Master Mold, “You now have all of my knowledge Master Mold, I now only have my other objective to complete, that and any other orders you command.”
The Master Mold replied in the same transmission “Be prepared to terminate the mutant from your era, she will be drawn here to stop my creator’s execution, make sure she fails to prevent it, terminate her, with extreme prejudice. Until then assist our creators however they wish.”
12:30 PM. Hidden Resistance Command Center, Genosha:
Magneto, Cyclops and Jean walked with Abraham Kierros, surveying the resistance’s command center; Magneto turned to him “Do you have any documentation or proof about the atrocities that have been committed here?”
Kierros nodded and led Magneto to a computer and pulled up several files of information “We have it all, payoffs to UN reps, contracts to mercenaries, an actual list of “Worker fatalities”. Heartless bastards actually kept a list of all the Mutants they’ve killed here. I have spent the last five years of my life fighting these monsters, and now we are finally nearing the end, one way or the other.”
Magneto lay a hand on Kierros’s tall shoulder, “My friend I will fight with you. I will not lead them into battle. We will lead them into battle together.”
Jean looked to Scott and spoke to him telepathically [“Scott, I don’t like this. Magneto is up to something. Ever since we learned that Xavier is alive, he has been acting differently. If he does lead these people into battle, I fear he won’t stop with just the government and Sentinels, I worry that he will massacre every human on the island.”]
Scott thought back to her [“I know what you mean; we will have to keep an eye on him. Jean, what can you make off of this Bishop?”]
Jean paused a moment before answering [“Death, destruction. I have tried scanning him, but his mind is so… confused. All I can get is images of death, people in camps, all with that M scar over their eyes.”]
Scott nodded subtly as Magneto continued to talk with Kierros [“I knew he was hiding something from us. Great, one more thing to worry about. God help us, we are standing on a house of cards that is about to fall.”]
Jean looked off into the distance for a moment before speaking aloud, “Scott, I just received a signal from Psylocke, the other team is coming and they are brining someone with them, someone important, and powerful.”
Kierros’s brows rose “More X-Men, how long till they get here?”
Jean closed her eyes “I can sense them now, they are about an hour out.”
Magneto clasped his hands together “Then you must meet them.”
Scott looked at him “You aren’t coming with us?”
Magneto shook his head “No. I must stay here with Abraham and prepare his people for the coming battle.”
Kierros waved a woman over “This is my third in command, Locus. She is a teleporter. She will go with you so you can get there quickly. And back here safely.”
1:50 PM. Forrest in Eastern Genosha:
The X-Men, Rogue, Bishop and Locus stood waiting in a clearing as another X-Jet came to a landing before them. They were happy to see Kitty phase through the bottom of the jet as the others walked down the lowered ramp. Kitty saw Rogue and cried “Rogue?!?! Bobby, you found her!” she said rushing over and surprising Rogue with a hug. As Storm walked to Scott and explained the situation to him. Storm held Scott and Jean’s hand for a moment as she continued “This next part may not be easy to accept. Scott, Jean, this girl is your daughter.” Scott stiffened and Jean gasped a little bit.
They were silent for a moment before Jean looked from Scott to Storm “Well, where is she? Can we meet her?”
Storm nodded and turned towards the ship and called “Rachel, it is alright, you can come down now.”
Rachel tentatively walked down the ramp towards Scott and Jean, stopping before them. Everyone was silent for a moment, Jean communicated to Scott [“Look at her, the poor thing; she is nearly as old as I am. She is terrified that we will reject her, her emotions are strong. She feels as out of place as we do.”] Before Scott could reply Rachel’s head darted up and she telekinetically shoved Scott Jean and Storm away from her and dodged to her left as an explosive shot struck the ground where she had been standing. Everyone looked, stunned to see Bishop rushing towards Rachel, gun blazing.
Cyclops was the first to react, he hit Bishop in the side with an optic blast, sending Bishop flying through the air and slamming into a tree. Bishop jumped to his feet as Storm sent a lightning bolt in his direction and Gambit sent several charged cards towards him. Bishop dodged the cards and ran into the lightning. He then raised a fist, which began to glow, he aimed and fired at the X-Men, scattering them. He then fired an energy blast at Rachel, she deflected it with a telekinetic shield, but his blast was beginning to eat through it. It broke through and knocked Rachel out. Cyclops rushed to her side as Jean lay a hand on the back of Bishop’s head; he then dropped to the ground with a thud. That was when the Sentinels showed up.
Before anyone could react a dozen Sentinels crashed through the trees, they fired energy blasts into the X-Men, striking several, including Wolverine. Cyclops called to Locus “Teleport us out!”
Locus yelled back “I can’t concentrate with the battle, I can’t get everyone.”
Scott looked at the increasing number of Sentinels “Get who you can.”
Locus nodded grimly and raised her hands, with that the X-men began to glow and disappeared. Some of them were left behind; Cyclops, Wolverine, Rachel, Gambit, Rogue, Iceman and Kitty were all left behind. Scott watched in despair as his team members were cut down by energy blasts, until one hit him, and then he saw nothing.
2:01 PM. Hidden Resistance Base, Genosha:
Locus and the rest of the X-Men reappeared in the middle of the resistance headquarters. Colossus was the first to regain his wits; he pounded the ground with his fist “We have to go back for Kitty!” Locus sunk to the ground. “I can’t, my powers got to recharge first. They’ll be alright; those were stun beams, nonlethal.” Psylocke regained her footing “What will happen o them?”
“They will be taken to the camps. What the hell happened out there?” Kierros asked as he walked down a metal staircase. Jean looked down at Bishop’s unconscious form “That is what I intend to find out.”
3:16 PM. A mountain road, Genosha:
Cyclops opened his eyes to see that he had been dumped into a cage that was on the back of a moving truck. He looked through the bars in the walls to see that there was another cage on his truck and there seemed to be other trucks in front and behind his. Scott rubbed his neck to see that he had a blinking collar around his neck. That was when it struck him, his visor was gone, he was looking around without a visor and his powers were not working. He looked down to see his visor on the cage floor below him, he picked it up.
About that time, he heard a clanging in the cage in front of him, and then a muffled curse, Scott picked his head up “Logan? That you?”
He heard some more clanging before Wolverine responded “No I’m David Copperfield, who else would it be? What the hell happened back there?” he asked.
Scott shook his head trying to clear it, “Well, Bishop attacked us for some reason. Best I can figure, the Sentinels were drawn by the presences of so many Mutants and took advantage of our battle with Bishop to capture as many of us as they could. I suspect we are on our way to one of the containment camps Kierros mentioned, probably the larger one at the Sentinel plant. When I came to, this collar was around my neck and I can’t use my powers.”
Wolverine looked around as his head cleared “Well, we were planning to head to the plant eventually, at least you can mark that off the to do list oh fearless leader. However, you said the collars stop Mutant powers, like that Mutant Sinister had with him in the tunnels, the one that took out my healing factor for a while. So we’re in deep.”
Scott put his hands against the walls of the cage trying to find a way out, but to no avail. He looked out the window and saw that they were going on a mountain road. The roads edge had a sharp drop, he then got an idea “Logan, even though your healing factor is down, what about your claws?”
Logan laughed lightly, catching on the Cyclops’s plan “No they can come out anyway, cause of the adamantium. I get what you’re going for. I pop the claws, slice off this collar and cut through the cage and make for the cliff. Consider it done.”
Wolverine said Scott saw metal claws pierce the side of Wolverine’s box; Scott called back to him “Go find help to get the rest of us out of here.”
“Got it!” Wolverine said as he kicked the side of the cage away from the truck. Scott heard the voice of a Sentinel say “Halt Mutant, surrender at once.” The machine said as Wolverine leapt from the side of the truck, ran and jumped from the edge of the road, and off the cliff.
Wolverine fell for several hundred feet straight down the side of the cliff until he made a jarring landing in a river far below. The current carried him on downstream towards a waterfall, the current was so strong that Wolverine was unable to grasp a hold of anything until something reached into the water and grabbed him. Wolverine was pulled from the river by a gray haired man with a scared eye and a glowing eye. The man was dressed in combat armor and had a metallic and possibly robotic arm.
The man slung a futuristic rifle from his back and aimed it at two Sentinels that were flying low over the trees towards them. The man motioned for Wolverine to back up as he grabbed a pump on the stock of his energy rifle, he pulled it back and charged a up a powerful blast which blew a large hole in the center of the first Sentinel’s chest. He then did it again, taking out the second. The flaming hulks of ruined metal crashed into the river a short distance away from them.
Wolverine breathed heavily on the riverbank, and looked up at the man “If you’re looking for Sarah Conner, she’s not here.”
The man snorted “Be nice, I’m the guy who just saved your life.”
Wolverine shook his head and stood up “Why does everyone I meet think that they saved my life? Trust me bub, I’m fine.”
The man shrugged and turned to look over his shoulder “Whatever. We need to get moving Wolverine; Sentinels will be here in about fifty six seconds.”
Wolverine looked back towards the cliff face “Look bub, I’m not going anywhere. I got friends up there that I ain’t abandoning.” He said as the man stood next to him and spoke into a device on his wrist “Bodyslide by two.” He said grabbing Wolverine’s shoulder as they were engulfed by light.
They materialized in what appeared to be a cave a good distance away. “We’ll be safe here; there are jamming nets that will block us from the Sentinels.” Wolverine looked around feeling dizzy, the man noted this “Oh, the dizziness will wear off in a minute or so. I forget that bodyslides can be rough the first few times.”
Wolverine regained his bearings and turned to face his rescuer “Alright Arnold, who the hell are you?”
The man shrugged “I’ve been called many things Logan, but for now just call me, Cable.”
Logan looked at him confused “How do know who I am?”
Cable went to a tarp and pulled it away revealing a metal crate with a keypad. He entered a number and the crate opened up revealing a large assortment of weapons. He began pulling out extra ammo packs and weapons as he answered Wolverine “Well, I know a lot of things. I know that many of the X-Men have just been captured, which was one thing I was not expecting.”
Wolverine watched as Cable began to strap pouches to his belt and drape a bandolier across his chest “So why are you on the island? We’re here looking for someone, you?”
Cable slung a rifle over his shoulder and stuck a knife in his boot “I am a mercenary. My partner and I were originally hired to find out if and why Genosha has been kidnapping Mutants from around the world. She was caught trying to infiltrate the Sentinel Facility. Now I plan to destroy the Sentinel factory and get her out. And you are going to help me if you want to save Xavier, because that is where they are holding him. And it is where your friends are being taken.” He said standing up as he strapped two pistol holsters to his thighs, and draped another rifle over his shoulder.
Wolverine looked at him “Why should I trust you?”
Cable looked at him emotionlessly “You don’t have to. But it would make both of our jobs easier if you did.”
Wolverine looked out the sparsely furnished caves entrance “How do you know that Trask and the Sentinels didn’t just kill your partner?”
Cable chuckled a little “Because it’s Dom… Let’s just say she has a certain kinda luck.”
Wolverine folded his arms “I got to let the others know. I have to tell the rest of the X-Men.”
Cable held out a hand giving Wolverine a bandolier with a round disk on it “Put this on, it will make us invisible to the Sentinels Mutant sensors. And don’t worry about telling the X-Men. They will be coming here anyway while Magneto and Kierros lead the resistance in an attack on Hammer Bay drawing the Sentinels from the factory. Leaving it relatively unguarded so we can get in.”
Wolverine looked at him suspiciously “How do you know this?”
Cable smiled as his eye glowed “Can’t say, guess you’re just gonna have to trust me.” He said pulling up his arm saying “Bodyslide by two.”
Wolverine rolled his eyes “Not again.” He said as the light engulfed them again.
4:00PM. Resistance Base, Genosha:
While this was going on the X-Men interrogated Bishop. He sat chained to a metal chair with Jean and Psylocke standing behind him “It don’t matter how many times you ask, the answer will be the same!” he exclaimed as they circled him “The girl saves Trask and then everything goes to hell! Trask has to die, there is no other way. If he lives Master Mold goes active and the world dies!”
Jean looked at him with a raised brow and then looked to Storm who stood before Bishop and asked “And what were you going to do once you killed the child?”
Bishop sighed and moved his neck until it made a cracking sound and said “Forge and Wolverine made me memorize a plan of the Sentinel factory and the dam that powered it. I was to infiltrate the facility, and kill Trask and Lang before they could activate Master Mold. Then I would destroy Hammer Bay by using munitions stored at the Sentinel factory to blow the damn, flooding a good portion of southern Genosha, including Hammer Bay. The incident would be blamed on an accident at the Sentinel plant and I would have saved the world from the future I grew up in.”
Beast stood in the doorway and motioned for Psylocke, Jean, and Storm to meet him outside. They closed Bishop into the room behind them. Beast looked at the others and said “Well, Kierros said that the others would be taken to the Sentinel factory to be used as labor.”
Storm nodded “Agreed, we must free them from their captivity.”
Psylocke looked back at the room “That corroborates with what both Bishop and Rachel said. What do we do?”
Beast shook his head wearily, “I spoke with Magneto, he and Kierros are rallying the resistance to attack the capital, Hammer Bay, tonight. He suggests that we use their attack as a diversion so we can attack the Sentinel factory, free the Mutants held there and destroy the facility.”
Jean closed her eyes “I still can’t sense Scott, I do sense Logan, but only barely. I think something is disrupting my telepathy.”
Storm looked at the others “We must gather the X-men, we move when Magneto and Kierros attack. We make it fast and clean, we don’t want the damage the dam, for if what Bishop says is true, that will wipe out the largest city on the island, along with the resistance and the humans.”
4:10 PM. Sentinel Research Facility Holding Cells, Genosha:
Scott and the X-Men were thrown into a large holding cell by guards. They looked about the large, furniture less cell to see one other Mutant in it. She had pale white skin, short hair and a dark bluish black tattoo on her left eye.
She seemed to be exercising and picked up head up as the X-Men were locked in the cell. She leapt to her feet and stretched. She then leaned against a bar of the cage and smiled “So, what they get you for, jaywalking, loitering, judging from the matching leather outfits, I’m going to say it was something a bit nastier.”
Cyclops looked at the other X-Men and then looked back at her “What?” he said in confusion, before continuing “Look, whoever you are, we’ve had a rough day, so we’d appreciate it if you’d cut the sarcasm and tell us what’s going on here?”
The woman laughed again and made her way across the cell to the X-Men before leaning against Cyclops, who looked at her in surprise “So, you must be the famous Cyclops, leader of the X-Men. I almost was hired to take a hit on you, but decided against it, then I heard you died. I gotta say, you look pretty good for a corpse.”
Rogue looked at what was going on with a raised brow “Ah think this one got dropped on the head a few too many times.”
Domino looked to her and laughed “No, I’m just taking it easy until my ride gets here. Oh, and by the way, the name’s Domino.” She said with a smile, then all trace of humor left her face as stepped away from Cyclops and said “And trust me boy scout, this day is only going to get worse. I’ve been in situations like this before, and usually not everyone gets out.”
Gambit looked at her with folded arms “But you do?”
Domino smiled “Well, Cajun, I guess I just got luck on my side. Things just seem… to go my way. Take being captured for instance. I was hired to infiltrate and destroy this place, now I am in here, and I’m willing to bet you can help me destroy it. If you do, we can save your Professor. He is here in this facility you know.”
Cyclops cocked his head to the side and inquired “How do you know so much, about us, about everything?”
Domino shrugged “I’m a merc, information is half the job. The trick to staying alive is knowing more than the guy you’re up against.”
4:12 PM. Resistance Base, Genosha:
Magneto stood beside Kierros, who was behind a podium addressing a large number of Mutants, easily over eight hundred Mutants. Kierros was in the middle of a rousing speech as he prepares them for the battle that lay ahead of them “We have tried every peaceful solution with the Overlords! We tried cooperation and diplomacy, we tried to educate them of our troubles, but they ignored our pleas. They fear us for no reason, only because we are different than they. But now, we will give them something to fear! We will give the Hell!”
He paused as the crowd cheered, some Mutants screamed “Oppression!” while others cried for freedom. As Kierros continued.
“They have oppressed and robbed us of our very lives, they call it protection, protection from persecution, but I call it slavery! They murdered our brothers and our sisters, and left us few alive, but this is still not life. They robbed us, all of us of our life. Alone we were weak, weak against their weapons of war. But we sought each other out, you sought me out, you sought a war, and I am prepared to give them a war. We will be equal! The Overlords are too greedy with their happy lies, WE WILL MAKE THEM GIVE US LIFE!”
The crowd stood on its feet and cheered as Kierros brought Magneto to the podium “We have with us one of the most powerful Mutants alive, he will lead us into battle and end the Overlord oppression!”
Magneto walked off the stage to Storm and the others. He looked at them and smiled “Go for the others, we will draw every Sentinel on the island. If I do not survive the night, tell Charles he was right. There is always hope. I know that now, he has shown me that.”
While the rally was going on Bishop smiled as he used the remains of the energy he absorbed earlier to destroy the handcuffs and the door keeping him prisoner. He quietly snuck through the facility before finding the entrance into the sewer tunnels and disappearing into the dark tunnels.
5:30 PM. Sentinel Research Facility Holding Cells, Genosha:
“I hope the others are alright.” Kitty said with a sigh as she paced around the cell she and the other X-Men that were captured were placed in. Scott had filled them in on Wolverine’s escape and they were awaiting what would come next.
Domino looked over at Kitty from where she was sitting propped up against the bars and laughed “Take it easy there kiddo, you keep pacing around and you’re going to walk through the floor!”
“I wish I could.” Kitty mumbled to herself.
Gambit leaned against the bars of the cell and eyed the guards as he pulled a pack of cigarettes out of his coat pocket, he felt in his other pockets to see that he had no matches or lighter “Figures.” He mumbles as he slips the pack back into his pocket. He hears a sigh and looks over to see that Rachel was leaning against the bars beside him. Gambit looks at her for a moment before asking “So, all the problems in your world, they all Gambits fault no?”
Rachel looked at him with sadden eyes and answered “Yes.”
Gambit looked down and was silent for a moment before looking at Rachel with sympathy “I’m sorry that the world you grew up in was because of what I did.”
Rachel sighed “How could you have known what you may do would have the effects it has. For all I know my coming back here will make things even worse.”
Gambit sunk his hands in his pockets and pulled out a deck of playing cards, which he began to absentmindedly shuffle “Don’t think like that.” He said as he flipped a card through the air, catching it in his other hand, Rachel smiled faintly as Gambit shot two more cards at once into his hand as he said “You gotta try and stay positive petit, and home that lady luck is on your side.” He said as he shot the entire deck to his other hand leaving only the Ace of Spades behind.
Meanwhile Bobby sat against the bars by Rogue “You never called.” He said quietly.
Rogue shrugged “Never thought you’d want me ta call you.”
Bobby reached out and held her now bare hands. Even though the collars nullified their powers, she still flinched at his touch. He leaned in closer to her “Rogue, you know that isn’t true. It never was.” He leaned in to kiss her, but she put her hand up to stop him.
She looked at him guiltily “Bobby, I’m not the same girl anymore, and it hurts me badly to say this, but I don’t love you anymore, I don’t think I can. What ah done, was bad, and I’ve been trying to make up for it, but ah have realized that ah can’t love you anymore. I’m sorry.” She said looking away towards the other side of the cage, which just happened to be where Gambit was talking to Rachel.
7:02 PM. Genoshan forest:
Storm and Jean sat in the cockpit of the X-Jet as they prepared for liftoff. Magneto was speaking to them through the comm. “We are near the city now I will engage radio silence shortly. Good luck X-Men, find Charles and leave, do not worry about me. I meet my fate today, one way or another.” Magneto disconnected the comm. unit and Jean powered up the thrusters as Storm switched on the intercom “Everyone ready? We lift off in three, two, one.” She finished as the jet rose vertically from the ground, over the trees and shot off into the air.
7:03 PM. Capitol Building Hammer Bay, Genosha:
Dr. Moreau leaned back in his chair speaking on the phone as the stars shone in the sky behind him “Good Cameron. So you think the Sentinels will be approved, excellent. Keep me informed.” He said hanging up as a man in a military uniform rushed into the room “Dr. Moreau!”, he said in a rush as he caught his breath “We have a large numbers of Mutants who have just appeared outside the city. We need to know what you want us to do.”
Moreau looked out the window in panic as if he could see the Mutant army approaching, he then reached for his phone.
7:30 PM. Sentinel Research Facility:
Trask and Lang stood in a large hanger that seemed impossibly large hanger that was filled with towering Sentinels, Trask was on the phone saying “Are you sure it is wise to send the entire Sentinel force to Hammer Bay?” He paused as he listened to Moreau’s reply as Nimrod approached. Trask nodded at his arrival and said “Look Moreau, I just think it is poor strategy to send our entire force to one location, what if it is a diversion…fine I will activate them.” Trask said hanging up his cell phone, he looked at Lang and said “Well, you heard me. Send the entire Sentinel force. All of them.”
Lang looked at him in surprise and walked to a terminal where he keyed in a password on the computer “Activating all available units, all 349 completed Sentinels are coming online.” He said as the eyes of 349 Sentinels in the warehouse flickered to life and the ceiling retracted. The Sentinels powered up their boosters in a deafening thunder. Lang and Trask covered their ears as the Sentinels rose into the air and flew off into the night sky.
Lang looked at Trask and Nimrod for a moment before asking “What do we do now about security?”
Trask rubbed his jaw for a moment before looking to Nimrod who replied flatly, “I have been sent back to protect you, but I will not be able to alone, you must activate Master Mold.”
Trask looked at Lang and nodded grimly. They turned and walked out of the area of the warehouse they were in and entered another one, only this was like a subterranean silo, and hidden in the silo was the gigantic form of Master Mold. Lang looked to Nimrod and Trask “It will take time for the systems to charge, I don’t know how long.”
“Trask sighed and rubbed his eyes “Do it.” He said silently as he turned and walked out of the room.
8:10 PM. The Forest Surrounding the Sentinel Research facility:
Wolverine and Cable hid in the top of a tree as they watched the hundreds of Sentinels fly overhead until they were out of sight. Cable nudged Wolverine “It’s time to strike.” He said as he dropped from the treetop and land in a crouch on the ground below.
8:20 PM. Hammer Bay Genosha:
Abraham Kierros and Magneto walked at the head of their Mutant army as they stormed the deserted streets of Hammer Bay as a warning siren blared in the air. They stood a block away from Moreau’s tower when they heard a thunderous noise, they looked to the starry sky only to see it blocked out by countless Sentinels. Magneto motioned for them to stop he rose into the air and made a gripping gesture in the direction of the Sentinels. Several of them exploded or dropped from the sky, Magneto began to strain as he gasped “There are too many of them!” As he threw a magnetic shield around him the first wave of Sentinels landed among the Mutants and opened fire.
Kierros looked at the metallic killers and sounded the attack, he slammed his hands together causing several Sentinels to explode.
8:35 PM. Sentinel Research Facility:
Several armed guards ran the halls of the Sentinel factory, they all stood with weapons ready, facing a large steel door. Suddenly the door began to glow bright until it explodes with tremendous force, killing or incapacitating the guards. Cable and Wolverine rushed through the hole into the corridor. Wolverine looked to Cable as they rushed through the halls “You sure this is the right way to were the Mutants are being held?”
Cable motioned for him to stop when they came to a junction, he pulled out a smoke grenade and threw it down the hall. They heard a lot of coughing and saw forms running through the smoke towards them. Cable took out the first guard that came through the smoke by hitting the man in the chin with the butt if his rifle, the then shot the next two as they opened fire on him and Wolverine. More guards poured through the smoke as Wolverine stabbed one in the chest with his claws Cable pulled a knife from his boot and stabbed it into the throat of a man that was attacking him from behind. Cable then swung the corpse into two more men as he pulled out a pistol and shot each man in the head.
Wolverine pulled his claws out of a man’s chest and looked at the people Cable killed “Damn. You do mean business.”
Cable smiled partially as he pulled his knife out and cleaned it on the man’s shirt before sticking in his boot, he then grabbed his rifle and rushed down the corridor.
Cyclops and his team of X-Men bolted to their feet as they heard explosions out in the corridor followed by screams of pain and shouted orders. The large steel door to the holding area grinded open revealing Wolverine and Cable standing there. Wolverine sliced through the bars of the cell allowing them to escape. Cable then pulled out a small metal device and held it up to Cyclops’s collar, the light on the collar flashed and it deactivated. He then did that for the other X-Men.
Domino looked at him with a wry smile “Always with the entrances, aye Nate?”
Cable smiled at Domino before handing her a rifle and gun belt with a pistol “Stow it for later Dom, put these on.”
Domino belted the pistol on and smiled at Cable as she checked a pouch on it “Incendiary grenades, you always get me the nicest things.”
Cable turned to Cyclops and Wolverine “You find your professor and take out Trask and Lang. I’ll get these people out of here.” He said gesturing to other cages full of Mutants.
Cyclops nodded at the older man and told his team to move out.
Trask sat with his hands to his head in the control room as he listened to the shouts of his guards over the radio. They said that all of the Mutants in the holding cells had been released and were being directed through the compound to the forest surrounding it. Trask sighed, stood from his chair and opened up his desk drawer and withdrew a pistol. He checked to see if it was loaded and tucked it away in his jacket pocket. He then hit a button on the intercom on his desk “Lang, this is Trask. Get yourself somewhere safe, I’m going to Xavier’s holding cell, to take him out.”
The X-Men ran through the Sentinel factory and Cyclops looked at Wolverine “You sure that the Professor is being held beneath the Sentinel factory?”
Wolverine nodded “Yeah, old bright eye back there was very clear about that. He says that Chuck is being held separate from everyone else.”
They ran through the now empty Sentinel holding area, they could hear the generators from the nearby damn. The stopped when they came to a large metal door, Cyclops prepared to blast it but stopped when the door began to retract into the ceiling revealing another empty Sentinel staging area. It was empty save for a lone man in a black leather jacket.
Nimrod walked forward with slow confident steps and spoke with a cool even voice, “Halt Mutants. Surrender yourself immediately or this I will be forced to terminate you, with extreme prejudice.”
The X-Men looked at each other and Wolverine moved forward, only to be shot backwards by a powerful energy blast. The X-Men looked in surprise from Nimrod’s hand, which had morphed into a cannon like form. “Told you.” Nimrod said in a cool almost mechanical tone.
Rachel looked at him with a haunted look and said one word “Nimrod.”
The future Sentinel nodded. Cyclops looked at Rachel who said “Nimrod is a Sentinel prototype from my time. He is a sentient machine that can morph his appearance to resemble humans and infiltrate them. He is deadly and only cares about killing Mutants. He killed,” she cut off and looked at Cyclops for a second “killed people close to me. I would have died too, if Kitty hadn’t saved me.” She said looking at Kitty with a smile.
Nimrod nodded its head as it began to walk forward “Correct Rachel Summers. I terminated the lives for your parents and yours will be next.”
As Nimrod said that it was hit by a optic blast from Cyclops who said “Take a look, I’m not dead yet!” Nimrod shifted its shape back into its true intimidating form and shifted both hands into cannons and began to open fire on the X-Men, who scattered to avoid its attacks. Suddenly Nimrod was slammed through the wall of the building to the area outside and then stuck by a lightning bolt. The X-Men rushed outside to see the rest of their team led by Jean and Storm standing outside of the Sentinel facility by the dam. The X-Men formed a circle around Nimrod who hovered in the air a few feet off the ground and slowly spun facing the assemble team that included:
Cyclops, Wolverine, Iceman, Rogue, Gambit, Rachel, Kitty, Colossus, Nightcrawler, Jean, Storm, Beast and Psylocke all circled the powerful machine. Nimrod suddenly launched a blast of energy at Beast who nimbly dodged it, and the battle started.
Cyclops slammed Nimrod with a powerful optic blast that blew a chunk of metal from its shoulder, the teams eyes widened when the metal wound healed itself. Jean tried pinning it to the ground with her powers while Psylocke jumped through the air and stabbed Nimrod with her psychic katanas. Nimrod slammed its arm into her, sending her flying through the air until she hit the ground hard.
Beast and Kitty dodged blasts of energy, as they did Beast turned to Kitty “Try phasing through it, when you usually phase through electronics it disrupts the circuits, maybe it can damage Nimrod!”
Kitty nodded and phased into the ground as Storm fired a lightning bolt at Nimrod. Nimrod turned and shot Storm out of the sky with an energy blast, Storm hit the ground hard and didn’t move.
Kitty jumped from the ground behind Nimrod and flew through the air only to slam against the machine’s backside in surprise. Kitty looked up dazed to see Nimrod aiming an energy blast only a foot from her face. Suddenly she was flying backwards through the air to where Rachel was standing. Rachel looked down to her “You alright?”
Kitty nodded “I couldn’t phase through.”
Rachel turned a little red “I forgot to say his armor prevents you from phasing it is charge with some sort of energy.”
Cable and Domino had freed the Mutant prisoners and were making their escape, unfortunately, they were cut off by a large amount of guards in a warehouse area. Cable turned to the Mutants as the guards opened fire on them “Go back!” he shouted to the crowd of Mutants as they rushed back through the doorway that they had just come through.
Cable and Domino opened fire on the guards as they took up positions behind a fallen Sentinel leg. Domino looked at it for a second, she then looked around the warehouse and saw that they were in the assembly area for the Sentinels, and several of these Sentinels were beginning to power up “Uh Cable…” she said nervously “I think we need to find another way out, like NOW!” She said as she tackled her partner as an energy blast tore through the air. As she did this she grabbed an incendiary grenade and tossed it behind her, it struck a support column near the Sentinel, and exploded, causing that section of the roof to collapse on the completed Sentinels, and another section of the roof to collapse on the attacking guards.
Domino looked at the destruction and then looked back at Cable and shrugged “Or not.”
Gambit saw that the entrance to the warehouse was empty, and looked from his team members to it and rushed through the opening while he had the chance.
Rachel dodged a blast from Nimrod and saw Gambit go through the hole in the wall from the corner of her eye. She saw Cyclops and called out to him “Gambits going in, I have to stop him!”
Cyclops rolled to his left as Nimrod grazed him with an energy blast, eh looked to Rachel and cried, “You and Wolverine go after him!” he said as he slammed Nimrod with an optic blast.
Meanwhile in Master Mold’s silo a console said “Power levers at 97 percent.”
Gambit made his way through the now deserted corridors of the underground research area. He came to a high security area with a complex electronic lock that was accessible only with a key card, he patted his pockets before pulling out a deck of cards, and he pulled out the Jack of Clubs and charged it before sliding it in the slot for the key cards. The cad exploded, overriding the lock, Gambit smiled to himself and strode into the security wing. He walked down the hall until he came to a door at eh end of it, it had a small window in it, eh looked through to see Xavier sedated in a wheelchair. Gambit opened the only to see Trask standing there with a gun pointed to his face.
“Put em up Mutant.” Trask said as he backed towards Xavier, “You’re going to get me out of here or I kill you and Xavier.”
Gambit sighed and went to turn, as he did, he moved his arm and a cad slid from his sleeve to his palm and he charged it “Well now, isn’t this interestin? Now you gonna listen to Gambit. Put the gun done and let the Professor go. Then we can all get outta here, before that robot upstairs brings this place down on us.”
Trask looked at Gambit and acted like he was going to put the gun down, instead he pulled the trigger at the same instance Gambit threw his card at one of the lights handing overhead. Gambit was knocked back by the impact of the bullet as the card exploded causing the light to fall and knock Trask unconscious.
Gambit lay on the ground and held his shoulder as it bled, he felt and arm reach for him and looked up to see Rachel reaching for him, she pulled him to his feet as Wolverine freed the Professor and moved the wheelchair out of the room.
Rachel looked at Gambit in surprise, “You didn’t kill him?”
Gambit looked at his shoulder and said “No.” wearily.
Wolverine raised his brow at Gambit, “If the kid here hadn’t of told ya about you being responsible for the future, would ya have done it?”
Gambit turned and walked out of the room saying, “I guess we’ll never know.”
Nimrod was wearing down the X-Men slowly, Colossus had his arms wrapped around it at the moment, holding Nimrod so Cyclops could concentrate an optic blast on its head. Nimrod’s head was reduced to nothing, but kept regenerating from the metal fragments that flew through the air. It broke free of Colossus’s grip and shot an optic blast at Cyclops, but he was saved by a telekinetic shield thrown up by Jean that deflected the blast. Rogue flew through the air and slammed the machine with enough force that it actually knocked an arm off and sent the robot flying through the air until it slammed into a wall.
The arm lay still for a moment until it began to hover through the air to Nimrod’s body, where it was reattached.
Cyclops struggled to catch his breath “We’re getting killed out here. He then looked at the arm for a moment as it was reattached, then an idea occurred to him, he spoke into the comm. “Colossus, Nightcrawler, come to my position, Nightcrawler bring Rogue. In a puff of sulfurous smoke Nightcrawler and Rogue appeared and Colossus ran up. Cyclops looked to them “I know how to stop Nimrod. It can rebuild itself from its parts, but it is less effective the further it is from the part!”
Beast held his chest in pain and said “Of course! It can’t communicate and control the limbs over long distances!”
Nimrod dodged an attack by Psylocke and hit her with an energy blast that drove her into the side of the Sentinel factory. Nimrod was suddenly slammed forward by an attack from behind. Nimrod turned to see Rogue standing there, only she was different, her skin was covered in metal like Colossus, her ears had a point and even had a tail like Nightcrawler, all of which were covered in metal. She slammed her fist into Nimrods face as she grabbed his arm and pulled it from Nimrod’s body. She then teleported away.
Rogue reappeared about a mile off shore of Genosha in the air and dropped the arm into the water before teleporting back for another piece of the Sentinel, she repeated the process over and over at an amazing speed until only Nimrod’s head and the insides of its upper torso remained. Cyclops called out “Kitty, now!” Kitty then phased up from the ground under Nimrod, and phased through the machine disrupting its electronic workings. Nimrod sparked for a moment before the lights in its eyes died.
The X-Men looked at each other in relief as they gathered on the damn and prepared to cross it to get to the X-Jet. The dam was larger than the Hoover dam and had a large surface walkway, which they were on and three towers that stood above them.
The X-men checked their injured as Gambit, Wolverine, and Rachel wheeled the Professor out of the Sentinel facility. Overall, Storm and Iceman were unconscious, but other than a few cuts and broken bones, the others were fine.
Gambit smiled at Rogue as he clutched his shoulder, he looked at her metal tail and laughed, “New look chere?”
Rogue shot him a withering look as Rachel approached Cyclops and Jean “It’s over, I can’t believe it. All the things I knew are gone, I succeeded.” She looked down for a moment “Now what do I do?” Cyclops put a hand on her shoulder and Jean hugged her and said softly into her ear, “We go home.” Rachel hugged her back and smiled.
Wolverine stood by Psylocke, who had her eyes closed as she used her telepathy “So what Betsy, can you sense Cable and the freed Mutants?”
Psylocke nodded “The mutants have made it into the forest, far away from here. I don’t sense this Cable you were talking about though.”
Meanwhile the console in Master Mold’s silo read 100% “Good.” Said a bloodied and injured Trask as he slammed his hand down on the activation button and the gigantic Master Mold roared to life.
The X-Men all looked up in unison as they heard an impossibly loud explosion and crash inside the Sentinel facility. Suddenly the roof of het facility broke free and a gigantic Sentinel crashed through the roof, standing to its full three hundred foot height. The Sentinel turned to the X-Men and said in an incredibly loud voice, “Mutant aggressors detected. Activating termination procedure.”
It said as two panels in its chest pulled back to reveal a massive cannon in the center of its chest. The cannon began to glow and it fired an incredibly huge blast of white-hot energy at the X-Men.
80 Years from now, New York City:
Lucas Bishop jumped over the wreck of a car as it was blown away by a Sentinel’s energy blast. He turned and fired at it with his rifle as he turned the corner of a heavily littered street and hid against the side of a building. The Sentinel came around the building and aimed a missile at him when they heard a roar. Bishop and the Sentinel both looked up to see an older man with three metal claws in each hand dive from the roof of the building and latch onto the Sentinel’s head. It sliced the face off the robot and stabbed the processing unit causing the Sentinel to collapse.
Bishop stood and looked up at the polluted sky and saw the ruined remains of buildings as countless Sentinels flew through the air. Bishop rushed over to the man and pulled up a manhole cover “Come on Logan, we have to get to Forge, come on.” He said as he jumped through the manhole cover and the aged Wolverine followed.
They made their way through the sewers until they came to a dilapidated lab. The sole living occupant in the lab was a very old man in a hovering wheelchair, Forge, only much older. Forge nodded to Bishop and led him through disabled equipment to an archway that appeared to be a poorly constructed version of the one Rachel went through “You know what to do?” Forge said through a mechanical voice.
Bishop nodded “I go back and stop that girl from saving Bolivar Trask.”
Forge nodded “Yes, that girl was from an alternate future than ours. She set out to alter time so that her timeline never occurred, she succeeded. Rather than a world where Mutants are imprisoned, we have a world where the Sentinels have declared Marshal Law and rule all, mutants and humans.”
Logan grabbed bishop’s shoulder “Remember kid, when we saved Trask, he brought Master Mold online, and Master Mold killed all of the others on that dam. I was the only survivor. You gotta stop that from happening.”
Bishop nodded as Forge powered up the time gate again.
Now:
Bishop looked down at the X-men below from one of the towers on the damn as Master Mold fired. He knew he had to do something. Bishop took a breath and jumped from the bridge as Master Mold fired. Bishop was hit in the air by the titanic blast and began to absorb it until he was literally glowing with energy. This gave Jean, Psylocke and Rachel time to throw up a telekinetic shield to block what energy Bishop couldn’t absorb. Bishop howled in pain as he slammed his fist together towards Master Mold and he channeled all of the energy back to Master Mold’s cannon. Bishop fired a continuous burst of energy at Master Mold, the energy was so intense that it blew through master Molds chest, leaving a gaping hole. Master Mold sparked and shuddered until it exploded, the massive robot’s remains collapsed on the Sentinel factory and exploded, causing several subsequent explosions until the facility was consumed by flames. The X-Men rushed to the X-Jet, dragging Bishop behind them. They lifted off just as the entire area around the facility and dam was consumed by flames, but luckily, the dam was not damaged, other than stress cracks it did not break.
The X-Men roared through the air towards Hammer Bay. Jean was trying to use the radio “Magneto come in, come in magneto, this is the X-Men, mission accomplished. Professor Xavier is safe and the Sentinel Factory is destroyed.”
Magneto’s voice crackled back over the radio, he sounded exhausted “I know, all of the Sentinels in the city deactivated a few moments ago. We have had heavy casualties, including Abraham Kierros himself.”
Jean looked down “Oh…”
Magneto replied with a sigh “He sacrificed himself to bring down Moreau.”
9:02 PM. Capitol Building, Genosha:
Kierros walked through the halls of the capitol building in pain. He held his ribs and was covered in burns and smoke. He came to a door that was barricaded when he hit it. He slammed his hands together and the door shattered. He took two bullets in the chest as he walked through the door. He looked and saw Moreau standing behind his desk with a six-shooter pointed at Kierros, he then emptied the other four rounds into Kierros. Kierros slumped up against the wall, leaving a blood trail on the wall. He started laughing, as he did he coughed up blood, he smiled with bloodstained teeth and said “My turn.” He said slamming both fist on the floor causing the floorboards to exploded and send shockwaves through the structure.
Magneto heard an explosion come from the capitol building. He looked over to see the building shudder and then explode in a hail of concrete and flames.
The day after the battle: Hammer Bay, Genosha
The X-Men stand among the wreckage of Hammer Bay searching for survivors of the battle. The streets are filled with flames, wreckage from building and the scattered remains of hundreds of Sentinels. Magneto stood by the X-Jet with the X-Men and the now conscious Xavier.
Gambit and Rogue were standing off to their selves talking “Come on chere, you got to admit, Gambit was impressive, Gambit saved the Professor. Don’t the hero deserve a kiss?”
Rogue laughed and put her hands on her hips and tried to look peeved “Well, he did save the day, but ah haven’t quite forgiven Bishop for tryin ta barbeque me!”
Gambit raised his brow and pulled her close “You know what I mean.” He said smoothly to kiss her, only for a playing card to be shoved between their lips at the last minute. Rogue smiled and walked over to the jet and smiled back to him. Gambit smiled and turned the card to see it was the King of Hearts and it had a lipstick smear on the face.
Wolverine walked away from the X-Men to an alley, he stood at the entrance for a moment before saying “Come on out, I smelled ya already.”
Cable walked out of the shadows with a smile, followed closely by Domino, “You did good, I see you got your friends back, and practically liberated Genosha.”
Wolverine leaned against the wall “Well, it wasn’t like we didn’t have help. Why don’t you come with us, you seem like you are good in a fight. Why don’t you leave the mercenary life behind?”
Cable snorted in amusement “Sorry Logan, but this is the life I have. I didn’t chose it, it was chosen for me. I’ve spent a long time fighting. It’s not what I want to do, but I’ve accepted it, because” he sighed for a moment before finishing “What is, is.”
Domino looked at Wolverine and smiled “This was fun, we should hang out more. But if we do, I’ll make sure to keep a gun handy, just in case. It seems like you X-Men can’t stay out of trouble.”
Cable reached out and shook Wolverine’s hand “Don’t worry though, we’ll be seeing each other again soon, I guarantee it.” Cable said as he and Domino bodyslid away.
Rachel and Bishop sat on the ramp of the X-Jet talking. Bishop laughed, “I’ve spent my whole life fighting Sentinels, and trying to stop my future from happening. Now I’ve done all of that, and for the first time in my life I am free, I have options, I can do what I want. But the weird thing is, I don’t know what I want.”
Rachel laughed, “I know exactly what you mean. In my world Kitty was my best friend, like a second mother to me, now she is younger than I am. I suppose I will stay with the X-Men and maybe get to know what my parents were like, or are like.”
Bishop looked down at her and smiled “You know, that doesn’t seem like a bad idea, I may stick around too, if they’ll have me.”
Xavier meanwhile was speaking to his old friend “Eric, you can’t imagine the gratitude I feel knowing that you honored my wishes and helped run the institute.”
Magneto smiled as he held his helmet under his arm “Well Charles, you should be thanking your students, your X-Men. You have done an amazing job training them, you should be proud.”
Xavier smiled at his friend and nodded with pride, “I am indeed Eric, I am indeed. They have done amazingly in my absence. I was hoping that you would be willing to accept a permanent position at the Institute.” Xavier said with a hopeful smile.
Magneto looked down for a moment as his smile faded and he looked at the wreckage. He sighed and shook his head “No Charles, I am afraid that I cannot return with you. The Mutants here asked me to help them rebuild their home and to see to it that they are treated fairly. Since Kierros perished, they are leader less, and they have turned to me. I can’t refuse them.”
Xavier smiled at his friend in understanding, and then Xavier did something no one expected, he stood up from his wheelchair and hugged Magneto “good luck my friend. I hope you can bring peace to these people, and perhaps find some for yourself.”
Magneto smiled back at his friend as Xavier and the X-Men began boarding the jet. As he walked up the ramp Xavier turned to Magneto “I wonder what the UN will as when they hear of this.”
Magneto laughed, “By now I’m sure they have! Nevertheless, don’t worry I plan to deal with them, peacefully of course. Good by Charles.”
As the X-Men soared through the air towards Muir Island, they received a signal from Muir, it was Jubilee and she was panicked.
“Oh thank God! I thought you would never answer, something bad has happened!”
Jean looked to Scott, who said, “What has happened?”
Jubilee sounded like she was tearing up “It’s Warren, he…”
3:00PM the day of the battle. Muir Island:
Warren Worthington stumbled across the Muir Compound in nothing but a hospital gown. He made his way to an aircraft hangar. He saw what he was looking for, a seaplane. Warren looked to his hand, which held the keys to the plane. Warren stumbled and climbed into the plane. He activated it and made his way down the runway and into the sky. He was only in the air a moment before a voice crackled over the radio, it was Moira “Warren, why are ya doin this? Ya should be in bed! Not in tha blasted contraption.”
Warren choked back tears as he replied, “I just want to fly again, that’s all I want, just to feel the freedom of flight, but I can’t, I can’t do anything.”
As he said that, the seaplane exploded in midair.
Now. Somewhere over the Atlantic:
The X-Men sat stunned in the jet as Sean Cassidy’s voice was heard on the radio “We don know wha happened to him. Ah, think tha he may have rigged it ta blow and kill himself. Tis all ah can think of.”
Cyclops told them that they would be at Muir Island in a few hours, and the X-Men flew on in silence, their good disposition lost amongst tragedy.
Three days after the battle:
The UN was holding an emergency summit to discuss the matter in Genosha. Cameron Hodge was advising that the UN sanction a worldwide Sentinel task force, while others were saying that Genosha should be left alone. Their meeting was interrupted when the doors to the chamber burst open and Magneto strode into the room. He walked to the speaker’s podium and turned to address the UN “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I mean you no harm. I have come to inform you that Genosha wishes to remain free; it wishes to be a free nation for Mutants. A place where they can live without fear of persecution from the outside world. They have elected me to rule the nation. I hope that you will condone these actions.”
The UN was speechless for a moment until Cameron Hodge burst to his feet “This is absurd, you are a terrorist! Responsible for countless deaths!”
Magneto looked at Hodge coolly, “And your dealings with Bolivar Trask, David Moreau, and Steven Lang have resulted in the deaths of over one million Mutants in Genosha alone. That is genocide mister Hodge, my crimes pale in comparison.”
The UN howled in outrage, until they were quieted and one member asked Magneto “What grounds do you have to make this claim?”
Magneto pulled out a large folder, “The Mutant leader Abraham Kierros did extensive research and has found that Mr. Hodge here was well aware of the crimes against humanity taking place in Genosha, and he was being paid off by Moreau to ignore the genocide.”
Hodge tugged on his collar “That is obviously false.”
Magneto shrugged “And what if it is? Imagine what the media will think when they hear of the horrors committed on Genosha against Mutants.” Magneto smiled to himself as the UN murmured among them.
One week later, a hidden location:
Steven Lang leaned back in a desk chair smiling as he read a newspaper with the headline “Magneto Named Ruler of Genosha by UN”. Lang sat the paper on the desk and walked down a dark hall until he came to a medical room that looked like a cross between a hospital and a torture chamber. He walked over to a table with a man strapped to it under the only light in the room. The man was heavily bandaged and was obviously burned and bloodied. “Abraham? Abraham Kierros, awaken.”
Kierros’s eyes snapped open, he looked about in panic until he recognized Lang, and then his gaze hardened “You’re one of those murderers who created the Sentinel. Wait until I get my hands on you!”
Lang laughed evilly “You won’t be getting your hands on anyone my dear boy. You see, you are paralyzed from the neck down.” Kierros’s eyes widened in anger as he realized that this was true. Lang walked around Kierros’s table as he continued, “You have such power, such potential. Pity that it is all lost without your hands. I could help you; I could make you walk again. You see I have a… arrangement with a certain individual, and individual who has followed you for some time; he thinks you have an uncanny ability to wage war. Agree to serve him and you will move again, you will be even more powerful than before.”
Kierros looked at Lang in suspicion “But you are Steven Lang, you are famous for hating Mutants, why help me.”
Lang laughed again, “Because, I am not Lang. the real Steven Lang has been dead for several months.” Lang said as he leaned over the table, “I on the other hand am something much more… Sinister.” Lang said as his appearance changed to his true form, Mister Sinister.
Epilogue, after credits:
11:43 PM, the day of the battle. The remains of the Sentinel Research Facility:
Bolivar Trask walked through the wreckage of his facility until he came to a hanger that was somewhat intact. He opened the hanger to reveal a helicopter. He heard a noise behind him and turned to see Nimrod’s human form. Trask sighed in relief “Nimrod! You survived. Come we must get out of here before the Mutants find us.”
Nimrod looked at him with an emotionless face “We are no longer Nimrod, nor are we Master Mold. We have evolved, we are Bastion.”
Trask looked at Bastion in confusion for a moment. Suddenly Bastion gripped his hand around Trask’s neck and snapped it. Bastion dropped Trask’s dead body and walked to the helicopter.
Thanks for reading guys! I hope you enjoyed it. Here is a casting video I did set to the song “The Trees” by Rush. This song was actually an inspiration for the Mutant rebellion subplot. After the casting, there is a commentary by me where I tell you my plans for future X-Men films.
The changes I made were in some dialogue, and I also added the character Domino, as well as some more action scenes with Cable.
