Nick Fury is one of those characters that everyone knows a little about, but he isn’t mainstream like Spiderman and Wolverine. This story isn’t as long as it looks, there are a crap load of pictures in there, plus a casting at the end. Let me know what you think, enjoy.
Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D.
An automated voice spoke in a dark room as a screen lit up “Accessing Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division database: Subject SHIELD 01 personal data file.”
The screen lit up revealing an equally dark room, the same room at another time. A man stood in the shadows onscreen and began speaking.
“I never knew my father, but I knew he was a hero. My father was a government agent for the precursor to the CIA, the OSS at least that was what I was told at the time. My mother, God rest her soul, was an Army Nurse at a hospital where my father was receiving treatment from a landmine injury he got in France, a few years after World War II. They began seeing each other and fell in love, they planned to get married after the old man finished one last mission, but he never came back. The ship he was on was destroyed by a mine. And needless to say a few months later I was born. My life growing up was anything but easy, for you see my father was white and my mother was black. Life wasn’t easy growing up in the fifties for many people, especially if you were the bastard son of a white man and a black woman, that’s two strikes against you right there, even if you’re living in Brooklyn. My mother she tried to protect me, keep me sheltered and she did a damn good job of it too. I spent my time reading stories about America’s greatest hero Captain America, I was always fascinated by him, a man that stood as a symbol for the greatest country in the world, and he was New Yorker, like me! Every year on the anniversary of the day he vanished the city would have this big festival, honoring him, and every year my mother would take me. She was a down to Earth religious woman; I never saw her get really excited or moved until one day in 63’ the radio played the voice of a southern preacher, a man with a dream. Until then I didn’t think I could have dreams, for me it was an awakening, for my mother it was a sign from God. A sign that the equality she and my father had wanted was finally going to come at last. At that moment I went from idolizing a dead hero to a man that represented what this country needed, change. We saved up every penny we had for five years until we had enough extra for two train tickets. We went to see him speak in Tennessee in 1968, I was so excited, I was nineteen years old and I would get to see my hero in person, on that day I found out that the greatest thing about heroes is, they can endure after their own deaths. I didn’t learn this for many years though, nope. Disillusioned with the world a week later I enlisted in the army as was shipped off to Nam’. That is where my story really began. Oh I’m sorry, I forgot to introduce myself, I’m Nick Fury Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., and this is my story.”
The Vietnam jungle, a beautiful place when viewed from above as it is now, in the distance the blades of helicopters can be heard approaching.
One of the helicopters contained an eclectic collection of seven young men dressed in combat fatigues and carrying an eclectic assortment of weapons. The camera finally focused on a young African America man who looked to be in his early twenties, his helmet had the name ‘FURY’ emblazoned on it, the young Fury looked from the jungle below to the other soldiers in the helicopter. As he looked from one soldier to the next the older Fury’s voice narrated the events
[“I barely finish basic and they threw me in with an elite unit, one with a high death rate as well, but the seven of us survived it all, after my first year there wasn’t much I didn’t expect. They were an odd bunch these guys I got stuck with. The blonde kid over there is Rebel Ralston, he figures himself an old fashioned guts and glory fighter, speaks with a heavy southern accent, he kinda kept his distance from me Gabe and Izzy. Gabriel Jones the units other black guy, he is probably the only black man I’ve met that is a certified doctor back in the States, he’s a great guy everyone loves him. Next to him there is Isadore Cohen, a Jewish kid from Brooklyn, he lived down the street from me when I was a kid, and his dad would let us help out in his garage in the evening. Then you got Dino Manelli, looks like a young Sinatra, the kid wants to be a singer or an actor, he helps with moral by knowing every song we can name, everything from country to blues, the boy has talent. The nervous kid to my left was Jonathan Juniper Jr. he left an Ivy League school and a trust fund to slug it out here in the jungle with us poor kids. And then you finally get to our CO Lieutenant Thaddeus Dugan, this guy is the real deal, I hear tell he was the inspiration for Col. Kilgore in Apocalypse Now. This had to of been the most dynamic leader I have ever seen, he is like a bull, but he would give his left arm for any one of his men, even Gabe and me. He is probably the best shot I’ve seen in all the time I’ve been in Nam, he can use any gun, and he was a sniper before joining the Air Calvary. He proved himself early in the war, and now the brass pretty much lets him have his way. He is a hard ass, but there is no one that I’d rather serve.”]
Dugan stood up as the chopper began its descent and put on a bowler hat
“Alright ladies when we touchdown it is our job to secure a gun emplacement on the western shore, we will be dropping first a few hundred yards off shore, so get ready to get your little pansy asses wet. LETS MOVE LADIES!!!” Fury snapped to his feet and along with the rest of his unit, jumped out the chopper. They fell about ten feet into the cold, shallow knee deep water. Fury felt the chill to his bones as he and the others sloshed through the water on their way to the beach, keeping low to avoid enemy fire.
They reached the beach and rushed towards the gun emplacement, Fury raised his hand to shield his eyes from sand as an artillery shell exploded near him, and he heard a scream near him and looked over to see Dino on the ground grasping a chunk of scalding hot shrapnel embedded in his leg. Fury saw Gabe grab Dino and throw him over his shoulders and drop him behind an old log. Fury heard a scream and turned to see several Vietcong rush towards him, guns blazing and bayonets at the ready. Fury raised his gun to fire, but it wouldn’t work, it was jammed! “Shit!” Fury cried as he pounded the action on the rifle and ran along the beach, trying to avoid the enemy fire. They closed in on him when suddenly he heard rifle fire behind him and five of the approaching VC were cut down. Fury turned to see Dugan rush past him rifle in hand, as he passed Dugan threw Fury his service pistol. Fury jumped up to catch the pistol and landed hard on his chest facing away from the VC, Fury quickly rolled to his left and opened fire on the VC, nailing one between the eyes and hitting two more in the chest. Fury rolled to his feet and continued up the beach towards the gun emplacement, he looked over to see Junior running alongside him and he saw someone just behind Junior with a rifle at the ready “JUNIOR DOWN!” Fury cried as he swung the pistol around to shoot the VC behind Junior, the bullet caught the man in the head, spraying blood on Fury and Junior. Fury pulled Junior to his feet and they tried to catch up to Dugan and the rest, they found them behind one of the many barricades the VC had set up along the beach. Gabe was patching up Dino’s leg, Izzy was speaking to the other choppers on the radio and Rebel and Gabe were arguing over how best to attack the gun instillation “Now hold on just a damn minute Lt. they got some heavy ordinance up there, I say we hole up in here and wait for reinforcements.” Before Dugan could respond Izzy spoke up “Sorry Reb, that was the Captain, it’s too hot for anyone to get closer with that gun up.” Dugan pulled a cigar out of his vest pocket and lit it “Well, looks like one of us going to have to go up there. Don’t you all volunteer at once, Gabe and Izzy are too important, but I couldn’t give a rat’s ass about the rest of ya. Reb you might want to open up that flamethrower on the other side of the barricade.” Dugan said as he leaned back against barricade and Rebel jumped to his feet to see a half dozen VC trying to sneak up behind them, he angled the flamethrower down on the approaching VC “Burn ya Goddamn gooks!” Dugan laughed a bit as Rebel burned down the VC “Enthusiastic that one.” Rebel dropped back down behind the barricade as the VC opened fire on him. They sat behind the barricade looking at each other as a hailstorm of bullets rained around them, after a few moments Fury sighed “I’ll do it.” Dugan nodded “Alright. Take Dino’s rifle, my pistol, and these.” Dugan said as he gave Fury the weapons and a bandolier of grenades “Alright Nick, just pull the pin on one of em and they’ll all go off. We lay down some cover fire for you. And Fury, good luck.” Fury wrapped the grenades over a shoulder and readied the rifle; he took a deep breath, placed his hand on the top of the barricade and leapt over it. He hit the ground running as his fellows laid down a suppressive fire, giving Fury the chance he needed. He reached the gun emplacement, which was a large stone and metal open aired bunked with several machineguns and anti aircraft guns inside of it. Fury saw a hatch open up revealing a gun port and the barrel of a gun. Fury stuck the barrel of his own rifle into the port and opened fire; the enemy gun fell back as several men cried out in pain. Fury pulled the pin on the first grenade and dropped them in the hole, he dropped to the sand as he heard a scream and an explosion, and out of the corner of his eye he saw a torrent of flame shoot out of the port and the opening above. Fury heard a shout of triumph as his comrades rushed towards the remaining Vietnamese as they ran up the beach towards the jungle, Nick looked up to see several helicopters land on the beach. He heard a shout “NICK NO!!!” Nick turned to see a VC rush at him with a bayonet and it seemed as if time slowed. He saw the VC rush at him with the bayonet, he saw Junior running towards him, then he saw himself raise Dugan’s pistol, then all he saw was Junior’s backside with the bayonet sticking through it.
[“That was the first time anyone died for me, I remember standing there looking at that damn blade sticking out of Juniors back as he slumped off the blade and into my arms, what I don’t remember is when I leapt onto the man and beat him to death with Dugan’s pistol. The next thing I remember is sitting on the beach, now red with Gook blood, the air cav had taken the beach and a nearby village that was loaded with weapons meant for the Vietcong. That night a Captain in the Air Calvary arranged for us to have some beer and steaks flown in, so we had a cookout light there on the beach, they almost made it feel like home, but the more they made it seem like home, the more new it wasn’t. I remember sitting on the beach just like it was yesterday. We were eating steak and dogs while sitting back and listening a song that had come out the year before ‘All Along the Watchtower’.”]
The music roared on the beach as the victors of the day sat around fires built on the beach talking and taking a brief rest for the horrors of war. Fury sat up against a piece of driftwood surrounded by other members of the air cavalry, one of the men near Fury, a gunner pulled out a small pouch of some sort of plant and began rolling it in paper, when he was finished he lit it on fire and began smoking it. He looked at Fury “Hey Nicky try this brother.” He said passing the joint to Fury, who eyed it and the man suspiciously Nick heard someone walking up behind him “Nicholas! I’m surprised at you! I thought you were smarter than that.” Nick looked up to see Gabe looking down at him “Ah Gabe! My foster mother, don’t worry mom I wasn’t going to.”
“Good.” A voice behind Fury said he turned to see Dugan standing over him “Besides real men smoke these.” Dugan pulled out a pair of cigars and gave one of them to Fury “Come on Nick, Gabe I need to talk to you.” Fury and Gabe walked with Dugan away from the others “I need to talk to you two about what happened today.”
Fury looked down “I know, I’m sorry about Junior, it was my fault.” Dugan put his hand on Nick’s shoulder “No, it wasn’t, Junior gave his life to save you. What I’m talking about is some good news. Some high ranking Brass is here from the Pentagon, and they wanted to meet with me about what happened today. I told them that you were the one responsible for our victor and well… You’re getting the Distinguished Service Cross. Congratulations!” Gabe patted Nick on the back as he stood there open mouthed. Dugan smiled “And wait there’s more. One of the Brass is with a covert group of the government called the CIA. He wants the three of us to become agents for him in a ‘special branch’ with ‘special privileges’. If we accept the two of you will be promoted to Lieutenant, way you’re goin Nick, I could see you commanding me before too long. So, what do you say, ready to leave the exciting army life for a dull career of booze women and espionage?” Nick Fury put the cigar to his lips, lit it and smiled.
Paris 1976:
Nick Fury pulled the cigar out of his mouth and threw it on the ground. He stood in the dark on top of a building overlooking the City of Lights.
“I spent several years with the CIA before Paris, and in that time I saw some pretty weird things. I learned that a lot of the things in the history books were wrong, especially the truth about the Nazi’s. In reality the Third Reich survived the death of Hitler and continued to grow in secret, until it became the terrorist group known as HYDRA. Not much was known about HYDRA except for the fact that it was started at the request of one of Hitler’s top aides the Red Skull. The Skull foresaw Hitler’s demise and had safeguards put in place to ensure that his ideals lived on. HYDRA now controlled dozens of countries and had spies stationed in countless governments, including our own. Lately their agents have been abducting scientists from around the world, no one knows why, that’s why they sent me to guard one of the world’s greatest bio-chemists Dr. Berthold Sternberg.”
Nick watched a car below as it drove threw a dark alleyway to the back entrance to the hotel Sternberg was staying in, Fury pulled out a camera smaller than the cigar he had been smoking. Despite its small size the camera was able to zoom in on the figures exiting the car below, it was three men and one woman in a bodysuit that was tight in all the right places, the suspicious thing about her was the fact that the majority of her lovely face was hidden behind a veil, Fury was able to snap pictures of her and the men as they entered the back room of the hotel.
Fury put the camera in his pocket and pulled out his radio “We got four possibles heading through the rear.” Someone replied to Fury over the radio “Head down there Fury your back up will meet you inside.” Nick sighed “Great another rookie.” Fury put the radio in the pocket of his black trench coat and looked across the yawning chasm separating the buildings; he saw a ladder across from him that ran from the street to the top of the hotel. Fury backed up a few feet from the edge of the building, took a deep breath and began to run to the edge of the building, he reached the edge, planted his foot on the ledge and jumped. He flew through the air for a moment, his coat fluttering in the breeze as he slammed into the ladder. He grabbed it looked below him and slid down the ladder to the alley below. Fury pulled a gun out of a modified shoulder holster he wore, it was a custom .45 Automatic M1911, and he also had a modified MAC-10 .45 machine pistol in another holster. Fury snuck around the car to the door of the hotel, he hugged up against the wall as he threw open the door, when no weapons fired greeted him Fury quickly entered the room. It was a small storage room filled with boxes and equipment Fury saw an open door at the other end and quietly walked through it. He saw a small service elevator with its doors closing the woman saw Fury and blew him a kiss; Fury swore and ran for the nearest stairwell. He raced up the stairs to the tenth floor where Sternberg’s room was at he opened the door and rushed onto the tenth floor. Fury cautiously walked down the hall, gun at the ready, he heard someone struggling in Sternberg’s room. Fury kicked down the door to see several CIA agents sprawled on the floor and the woman and her men standing over them “Freeze lady! Drop the guns and put your hands on your heads.” The woman dropped her gun and the men went to lower theirs, as they did the woman flicked her wrists and a blade shot from her sleeve towards Fury. Fury dodged as the blade hit the door sill where his head had been moments before. One of the men reached down and picked up an older man that Fury recognized as Sternberg, another man threw a chair through a window and the woman and man carrying Sternberg jumped out the window. AS they jumped the other two opened fire on Fury with submachine guns, Fury dove into the bedroom as the room was riddled with bullets. Fury readied his gun and rolled into the open doorway and opened fire on the men, he fired two shots, each catching a man in the head. Fury walked into the room and grabbed a gun off of one of the men, he was about to follow the woman out the window when he heard gunshots and saw a car speed away. Fury swore and jumped out the window and onto a fire escape; he made his way down to the street to see a woman leaning over the doctor, Fury holstered his gun and strode over to the woman “Who the hell are you?” The woman stood up and moved a lock of hair out of her lovely face “I’m Countess Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.”
Fury raised an eyebrow “Oh. My name’s Nick, Nick Fury.” The woman smiled and laughed “Val, I’m your new partner.” Fury rolled his eyes “Great, I’m being pursued by well armed hostile terrorists, and they send me a girl.” Val slinked up to Nick “do you have something against girls.” She said smoothly into his ear with a voice as fine as silk. Fury laughed “Quite the contrary, I like girls, just not girl partners. They can’t keep up with men, or fight like em.” Val grabbed Fury’s arm gently “That so?” Nick nodded, then she quickly tightened her grip and judo threw him into the side of the building “Now if that’s over Mr. Fury, help me get the good doctor here back to a safe house, oh and you can carry him since I’m just a weak little girl.” Nick scowled at her as he walked over to the unconscious doctor while Val got the car. As she turned her back on him Nick’s scowl turned into a sly grin.
Val drove Fury and the doctor to a CIA safe house hidden on the outskirts of the city. Along the way Val told Nick that she was a liaison between the Italian government and the CIA. The safe house appeared to be a pre-WWII block house, but when Val and Fury led the now conscious doctor inside they found it t be full of state of the art weapons and surveillance equipment. Val silently led Fury and Sternberg to a hidden elevator, once the elevator had begun its descent Val spoke up “I don’t like this, where are the soldiers that are supposed to be here?” Fury shrugged and lit a cigar “Hey doc, do you know why these guys want you so bad?” Sternberg nodded “For my greatest achievement, the ‘Infinity Formula’.”Sternberg said with great gravity. Fury looked at him “The what?” Sternberg looked at Fury with barely concealed contempt “It is supposed to prolong the lifespan and healing abilities of a user, but I have never tested it.” The elevator stopped several hundred feet underground and the doors opened revealing a scene of sheer carnage. The two dozen soldiers that were supposed to guard the building lay piled in the center of the room in a bloody heap “Awe SHIT!” Fury said as he hit the switch to raise the elevator and unholstered both of his guns. Val looked at him as she unholstered her own weapon “So what now?” Fury lit another cigar “The place is compromised, so we need to get him outta here. You stay close to him and I’ll go first.” Fury rushed out into the empty armory the moment the doors opened, he went and inspected the weapons, and they had not been tampered with! Fury grabbed a quad missile launcher off of a rack and sat it by the door, he then went over and picked up a fearsome looking mini-gun , about that time he heard it the sound of helicopter blades and… “What the… Wagner?” Sure enough ‘The Ride of the Valkyries” was being broadcast from the lead of the six helicopters “Germans.” Fury muttered under his breath as he hoisted the rocket launcher up to his shoulder, as he aimed it at the lead chopper, while Fury took aim Val asked a question “Why are they playing music?” Fury shrugged “Well the Nazi’s played ‘Ride of the Valkyries’ before they launched an assault on the French.” Fury said as he prepared to fire, Fury chuckled as he fired the missile at the first helicopter; the missile caught it just in front of the rotor sending it spiraling towards the ground. Fury hit the switch to switch over to another missile and fired at the second chopper, the missile struck it dead center, causing the chopper to be engulfed in a fireball. Fury fired a third rocket, but missed, he fired his last one striking the helicopter that was broadcasting the music, sending it spiraling out of control. Fury looked up to see troops dressed in green body armor parachute out of the remaining helicopters “HAIL HYDRA!” they all cried as the descended through the air. Fury sighed and picked up the heavy minigun
“THIS is mini?” He muttered as he opened up on the descending troops, killing many, and shredding the parachutes of many more, causing them to drop to their deaths. Fury’s teeth rattled as the gun fired off a steady stream of bullets at his foes, he eventually ran out of ammo as the remaining HYDRA soldiers landed on the ground and charged him. Fury pulled out his pistols and opened fire as he backed into the not-so-safe-house, by the time he reached the inside of the house there was less than a dozen HYDRA soldiers left, Fury ducked inside the doorway as Val laid down some suppressive fire on the HYDRA. Nick jammed a clip into his .45 and prepared to jump out and return fire when he saw a grenade sailing through the air “VAL!!!” Fury cried as he dove through the air, tackling her to the ground, at the same instant he fired frantically at the grenade in the air, one of his bullets hit it, and Fury saw a bright flash a shard of shrapnel and then, nothing.
[“I was lucky, no doubt about it. I hit the grenade in time to spare Val and the doc, but I was not so fortunate. I was hit by several pieces of shrapnel, one of which took my eye. The only thing that saved me was the quick thinking of the doctor; he had a vial of his Infinity Formula with him and injected me with it. The stuff jumpstarted my body like a car battery, allowing me to live. I knew it wasn’t out of kindness, the doc just wanted to see if his little formula worked, and boy did it. It locked me in the age I was at and kept me young and strong. Val was able to hold off HYDRA until the cavalry arrived, and we were air lifted to safety. After I was recovered I received a promotion to Colonel and was placed at the head of a special CIA taskforce. I went on many important missions with that team and eventually I recruited some of my former squad mates from Nam, Gabe and Dugan. My next major mission is the one that inadvertently led to the creation of the world’s largest espionage unit. It all started in Munich…”]
Munich 1982:
Nick Fury stood in a large hotel suite dressed in body armor with a gun and a shoulder holster, Fury was also wearing an eye patch. Fury looked out a large window with a set of binoculars, while talking on a headset “Alright Dugan he’s walking towards your location, you know what to do?” Fury smiled as he heard Dugan’s harsh voice on the receiver “Of course I do Nick, what do you think I am, Dumb.” Fury chuckled as he watched an elderly German man walk down a street “Zola is fixing to turn the corner… NOW!” Fury watched as Zola pivoted where he stood and crumpled to the ground, Dugan spoke over the radio “Mission’s a success Arnim Zola is no more. God, I love these new silent rifles.”Fury smiled “Good job Dum Dum. Pack it up and head for base, we have more business later in the week.” Fury smiled and felt someone’s arms wrap around him “Now Nick, since you’ve finished working on the Zola case, it’s time for you to go to work on someone else.” Nick held her softly “Oh yeah, and who would that be?” “Me.” Val said as they kissed passionately.
Later in the evening Fury’s gun belt was draped over a chair with the oversized pistol jammed into the holster.
Early the next morning Fury stood shirtless in front of the open window looking at the freshly fallen snow, his body showing countless scars, behind him wrapped in nothing but the covers lay Val as she stretched lazily in the morning sun. Fury reached over and grabbed his shirt off of a chair “Hey Val, better get dressed. We have to meet that German agent in a few hours.” Val sat up with the covers wrapped around her and pulled Fury onto the bed laughing.
A few short hours later Fury, Val, Dugan, and Gabe stood waiting in a warehouse. Dugan was their team’s marksman and demolitions expert. While Gabe had undergone extensive medical, scientific, engineering, and technological training at government agencies around the world, leaving him with knowledge of most known and unknown security and technical systems. They stood around in silence until the door on the far side of the warehouse opened to the snowy streets of Munich. A woman wearing a hooded cloak strode into the room, team looked at her in anticipation as the woman walked towards Fury, and she threw back her hood revealing a stunningly beautiful woman with long black hair. She stood in front of Fury, eyeing him for a moment, then she surprised everyone in the room by reaching up and kissing Fury passionately, much to the obviously ire of Val. When the woman stopped she smiled at the group “That is how we say hello in Austria.” Dugan smiled “Colonel, I’d like my next assignment to be in Austria.” Gabe chuckled softly until Val shot him a disapproving look; the woman kissed Dugan and moved over to Val who put her hand out “In Italy we settle for a kiss on the cheek or a hand shake.” The woman looked at Val and shrugged, she then kissed her on both cheeks, much to Val’s surprise “Better Fraulein?” She said as she offered her hand to Gabe who politely kissed it. Val looked at Fury, who was barely able to suppress a smile, and then back to the woman “Well, now that you’re finished making out with everyone, perhaps you will tell us your name.” The woman looked at Val in amusement “I am special agent Merriam Drew of the German Secret Service; I have been temporarily assigned to your team to help clean up the rest of Arnim Zola’s mess. You have already killed him, now we need to locate his lab, we believe it to contain a deadly biological weapon created for the Fuhrer during the war, it was so terrible that Hitler dared not use it, it was known as the ‘Deaths Head’ virus. The Fuhrer had it locked in a secret lab somewhere in Germany, only he, Zola, and The Red Skull knew of the labs location. Even though Zola is dead, we can’t chance on someone discovering the lab. Both of our governments have been looking for the lab for many decades.” Fury pulled out a map of Germany “Our Intel shows that Zola’s lab was somewhere on the eastern side of the wall, and he accessed it through a series of tunnels marked in these locations, one of which is here in Munich. Hopefully we will find a clue about the Death Head there” Dugan whistled “That is a pretty far distance for an old man to travel, about three hundred miles by my figuring.” Fury nodded “Approximately 370 miles. Well we had best get going then, hadn’t we? All right everyone grab your gear, we move in ten.” Fury ordered as he reached down to grab his own small pack, he turned to Merriam “Do you have everything?” The woman nodded with a smile “Why don’t you be the judge of that...” She said opening her coat to reveal a skintight leather jumpsuit that was snug in just the right places, with a harness, covered with weapons and various items.
In a dark tunnel voices could be heard, specifically that of Val’s “You know Nick when you said underground; you never said anything about the sewers!” Drew laughed “A problem Fraulein?” “As a matter of a fact yes, I don’t like rats of other people’s excrement! But I guess if you come from a country like that then you’re okay with it.” Merriam Drew laughed lightly “As I have already said, I’m not from Germany; Austria is much nicer, and cleaner.” Fury and his team rounded a corner with a light Gabe looked at his surroundings with obvious disgust as he manned a small scanning unit “You know Dugan, when you talked me and Nicholas into this you promised us booze, women, and fun. So far Nick’s gotten the girls, you have gotten the booze, and that leaves me the fun…and this isn’t much fun.” Dugan shined his light on Gabe “So what are gettin at?” Gabe shrugged “Oh no reason, wanna trade?” Dugan laughed and pulled something out of his pack “No. But I’ll share.” He said tossing Gabe a small brown bag “Careful with that, I’ve seen it drop a many a sailor.” Gabe opened it to find a small bottle of whiskey, he laughed, opening it and taking a swig, he offered some to Nick, who shook his head as did Val. Merriam however grabbed the bottle and took a long drink of it while Dugan raised his hat and his brow. She finished her drink and smacked her lips and sighed “Not bad, a little weak, but not bad.” She said handing the bottle back to Dugan who kept looking from her to it, that is until Val took the bottle and tried to repeat Merriam’s action, she ended up coughing and gasping for air “What is that, paint thinner!?!?” The Austrian woman laughed “I take it you are a wine drinker.” Fury sighed and grabbed the bottle and put it in his pack “Now that Happy Hour is over, can we actually concentrate on the mission now?” They continued on in silence until Gabe spoke up “Nick! I’m getting a reading of a large amount of energy near here; it should be near that wall.” Gabe said pointing to a stone wall ahead of them; Fury nodded at Dugan who proceeded to set an explosive charge on the wall and motioned for the other to back up. The wall exploded in a flash of light revealing a long dark tunnel with some sort of large enclosed car on a rail system. Fury shined his light down the tunnel, it never seemed to stop “Gabe, see if you can find out how to run this thing, and be sure to check for any unwanted surprises.” After a few minutes the car began humming and lights snapped on above the tracks, illuminating it as far as the eye could see. The team piled into the car, weapons at the ready, Gabe pulled a lever that looked like a brake and the car doors closed and it began to move, slowly at first but constantly picking up speed! Everyone desperately gripped a handrail as the car rocketed onward, deeper and deeper underground, a screen near the controls showed a computerized map, they were nearing their destination, the car began to slow as its brakes screeched to a stop before a large metal door. Dugan exited first, his rifle at the ready, followed by Fury and Val then Gabe, Gabe found a control console to the right of the door, he pulled out a device with a cord and plugged it into the console, after a moment the door groaned and began to open.
The first thing the team saw was two Nazi flags on a wall and between them was the symbol for HYDRA,
the first thing they heard though, was the sharp voice of a of a German guard “Eindringlinge offenen Feuer!” The man shouted as several guards rushed towards them and opened fire,
Fury lobbed a grenade, which scattered a group, as he and his team ducked behind the opening of the door as weapons fire shot through the opening “Well this is a bloody mess.” Dugan shouted as he fixed a mirror onto the sight of his rifle, he then slid the rifle out into the doorway and was able to see what he was aiming at; he took careful aim and killed the guard who was busy shouting orders. Gabe snuck around behind Dugan and rolled out into the doorway with a grenade launcher, he fire as many explosives as he could before he had to rush back behind the doorway. Fury meanwhile had lit another cigar “How many have you gotten?”Gabe looked at Dugan “AT least six, maybe ten.” Fury nodded “That leaves how many?” Fury said as he quickly poked his head into the doorway, only to have his cigar shout out of his mouth “At least fifteen.” He said as Val pulled an orb about the size of volleyball from her pack. The German agent eyed it curiously “What is that?”Val smiled cockily “A little something the Italian and American governments came up with, just watch.” She said as she threw it out into the room, it rolled a good distance towards their enemy as they shot at it, Val motioned for the others to get back as far as they could. The HYDRA agents continued to shoot the orb, until one of them hit it causing it to explode, engulfing everyone in the room in flame! Merriam looked into the room, slack jawed “Mein Gott!” The team waited a moment for the fires to die before entering the room.
They strode past the burning bodies of the HYDRA operatives and up a metal staircase to a sealed control room, they opened it and Gabe and Merriam rushed to the controls. They accessed the computers database and pulled up the data files about the Death’s Head virus, after a few moments of searching they found the bunkers location Merriam turned to Fury “According to this it is hidden beneath the Harz Mountains in Northern Germany!”
[“I didn’t know it at the time, but this one mission would truly change the world. And it would thrust me into a world of the strange, the unusual, the supernatural, and the superhuman. According to the computer the facility was located several thousand meters below a mountain peak known as the Brocken, the Brocken was a site known for evil and supernatural occurrences. It was also the location of a Nazi radio station turned radar station, the Sender Brocken. The Sender Broken had only recently opened its doors as hotel open to visitors; even though it was friendly to outsiders we had to be cautious, especially since it was in Soviet East Germany. For safety reasons, we decided it would be best for us to arrive at different times, me and Merriam Drew were to arrive there two days before the others, boy what a mistake that turned out to be.”]
Fury stood with Merriam at the check in counter, she was disguised as a rich Austrian socialite, he was to be her manservant, when he had asked why the situation could not be reversed she pointed out that an African-American man who knew little German ordering a beautiful German/Austrian woman around would only raise suspicion. She was able to get them two rooms on the same floor; the manager did not ask questions for they had not been getting much business since the snow had fallen. Fury carried their bags up to their rooms, after he made sure Merriam was safe, she insisted they share a drink of champagne, afterwards Fury went to his own room and took a shower. He emerged a short time later to see Merriam stretched out on his bed, wearing nothing but silk undergarments
Fury looked at her as he held a towel around himself “Aren’t you a little cold in here?” She smiled sexily and rubbed her hand up her bare thigh “A little bit, why don’t you come over here and warm me up Colonel Fury?” Fury looked at her with a raised brow “I’m old enough to be your father Agent Drew.” “Merriam, and maybe I have daddy issues Colonel.” Fury walked to the bed and grabbed his pants off of the bed “Nick, and I’m with someone.”He said not sounding to convinced, he felt almost dizzy for some reason. She sat up on the bed and pulled Nick towards her and kissed him lustily, at first he resisted, but after a moment he gave in. Someone knocked on the door and opened it “Nick? NICK!” Fury looked up to see Val and Dugan in the doorway, he quickly wrapped his towel around him “What are you two doing here? I told you not to all come at once.” Dugan put his hand on Val’s shoulder “WE had to hurry to beat the storm.” Val teared up and left the room, Dugan followed her leaving Gabe standing there. Merriam wrapped her robe around herself and left the room, Gabe walked in while Fury got dressed “Nicholas, what were you thinking?” Fury sighed as he grabbed his shirt; he wadded it up and threw it across the room “Dammit! I don’t know! I wasn’t thinking, I was just doing. Dammit!” Fury said sitting back on the bed and closing his eye, Gabe sat down by him and put his arm on Fury’s shoulder “Nicholas, we all make mistakes, you just have to learn to not repeat those mistakes, sometimes we do things we don’t understand, but you should know better Nick. Nick, Nick look at me.” Gabe turned nick towards him and looked into his eye, he pulled a small flashlight out of his jacket and shined it in Nick’s eye “Dilated, I think you’ve been drugged! You would probably be laid out on the floor if it wasn’t for the Infinity Formula. But where could you have been drugged?” Fury shook his head “Let’s keep this between you and me.” “But what about Val?” Gabe asked. Nick grabbed his shirt and pulled it on “We’ll worry about that after the mission.” He said as he hooked on his shoulder holster and jammed the oversized pistol into it.
The group struggled through the snow, each of them wearing heavy snowsuits, as they made their way along the mountain side Gabe held a map in the snow “According to this the cave system starts just on the other side of this range, we may have trouble seeing it in the snow though.” Dugan took the point in their trek as the snow fell harder around them. Eventually the group made it to the other side of the mountain, and began searching for the cave; Gabe yelled over the falling snow “I don’t get it! The maps show that we should be right on top of it!” Nick walked ahead of the group and took his hood and goggles off and squinted off into the snow, he took another step and heard a crunching sound, and he stood still and motioned for the others to stay still as well. He heard the crunching sound again and felt a trembling beneath his feet “Ah mother fu-“He started to say as the ground dropped out from beneath him ant the others. They screamed as they fell, they hit a steep slope and slid down several hundred feet before crashing in a heap on the cave floor. Fury stood up and extricated himself from the pile and shined a light at the cave walls, he cave was more like a tunnel dug by an ancient river, and it went on as far as he could see with his light. After he took a moment to check on his team they went down into the tunnel. They walked for what seemed like hours until they noticed that the further they went the hotter it became, so they shed their snowsuits and stood garbed in their combat armor, Fury and his teams armor wear highly advanced lightweight 9-ply Kevlar composite, while Merriam wore a greenish armor that resemble leather but was much more durable. All of the team were armed to the teeth with various weapons. Fury carried his two pistols as well as an assault rifle with a built in grenade launcher, Dugan carried dual modified assault rifles that were light enough to be used at the same time, Gabe Carried his technical gear as well as a rifle and several explosives like grenades, Val carried a pistol in a shoulder holster and an assault rifle. Merriam Drew carried a pistol and a small rifle, but at her waist she wore a sword. They finally reached the end on the tunnel to find a large heavily rusted steel door covered in rivets the size of hubcaps, and around the door lay the bodies of men from all eras since WWII, Fury looked about nervously as he hoisted his weapon to his shoulder “Gabe, find some way to open this.” Gabe searched around the door until he found an antiquated control panel; he touched a button on it and was answered by the buzzing of a warning claxon. The team looked about wearily as several grinding noises could be heard, they were surprised to see the rivets slide open from the door revealing dark recesses in the door, from which several machineguns slid and began to open fire into the tunnel. Gabe hugged the wall by the door, out of the line of fire as the rest of the team dodged about trying to avoid the weapon fire. Fury shot a grenade at one of the guns, but the gun tracked the grenade and shot it in the air before it could do much damage, Val and Dugan were taking a different approach they would cover the other while one of them lined up a shot and destroyed the machineguns. The process worked, but was slow, the team would not be able to last too much longer, and they pulled back further into the tunnel as a green blur shot by them. Merriam rushed towards the gate and pulled out her sword which split into two swords, she reached the gate and jammed a sword into the nearest machinegun, taking it out, she stabbed the other sword into the one directly above it, and continued to do so until she had taken out six guns, at that point the door began to raise, she dropped down to the ground as the defense systems shut down, Gabe had been able to open the door! They entered cautiously into the room to see a large cavernous chamber full of various machines and weapons, including a large robot that was over thirty feet tall with a large swastika painted on its chest; the head of the robot resembled a red skull!
Merriam entered the room breathlessly “This! This is the Red Skull’s private collection! After all these years, I never thought I’d live to see it, it’s so, so wonderful!” She heard the sound of a rifle cocking and turned to see Fury with his rifle trained on her “Alright lady, the jigs up who are you and what is this place?” Merriam laughed contemptuously “I am Viper, Madame HYDRA of the ruling council and loyal servant of the great Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker. And this was once the prized collection of the legendary Red Skull. More importantly this is the resting place Wilhelm Lohmer, the master man, the mighty destroyer, the Ubermensch.”
“HYDRA has sought to enter this place for years and thanks to your team, we now have the ultimate human, the Ubermensch. Now all we are missing is one final piece which you hold Colonel. It is sad the one thing that can bring life to the Ubermensch is in the possession of an inferior creature such as yourself.” Dugan ran towards her with his rifle “Why you little!” he cried until she spun about and kicked him in the jaw, sending him flying and dropping his guns, she then did a back flip, landing on a control panel near the Skull-Bot, she hit a switch and the robot groaned as its eyes lit up and it began to move. Fury and his team staggered back as Viper laughed sinisterly as the robot stomped out into the room, its head moved about the room targeting the running agents, Fury pumped grenades at the large robot, they simply exploded against its armor, leaving small dents, but doing no other damage. The robot raised an arm and fired an antiquated, yet deadly, rocket at the team, they scattered as the rocket exploded in bright light, it scanned about the room until it saw Fury whispering to Gabe, it then proceeded to follow them as they ran out into the tunnel, it stopped in the doorway and scanned about, searching for the two. “Now Gabe!” Fury shouted at his friend who hit the release switch on the gate, causing it to drop on the large robot, smashing it to the ground. Fury breathed a sigh of relief as he looked at the broken robot, he suddenly felt a stab in the back of his neck, he reached back to find a dart as he blacked out.
Fury awoke to the sound of a cultured German voice, he felt that he was strapped to a table, he raised his head to see an evil man before him smiling
“Good evening Colonel, I am glad to see you among the living Colonel, you may be wondering who I am. I am Baron Wolfgang Von Strucker, head of HYDRA; I believe you know my associate Dr. Arnim Zola.” Fury looked about, and saw several men dressed in the dark green HYDRA uniforms and he even saw the Viper standing behind Strucker wearing the same green body armor but now with a green cloak, but he saw no sign of Zola until he looked up at the computer screen which dominated most of the room, there he saw the face of Arnim Zola
“hello Colonel Fury, you no doubt are wondering how I managed to survive my death? I was able to digitize my personality, giving me virtual immortality.” Fury looked at the far end of the room, where he saw a blonde man in some sort of cylinder, Strucker looked at Fury “Awe you must be wondering who that is? Well, thanks to you Colonel we now have the Red Skulls greatest secret, the Ubermensch.” Zola spoke up from his screen explaining “You see Colonel; the Ubermensch was created to oppose your Captain America. Our super soldier formula was much more potent, creating a specimen of superior strength and endurance, but there was one drawback, the formula was unstable, it killed all of our test subjects but one, Wilhelm Lohmer. The Red Skull ordered me to place the Ubermesch in suspended animation, and the Skull had him stored here, where only he could have access to the Ubermesch, the ultimate soldier, obedient, and unstoppable. A few years ago a Dr. Sternberg created the Infinity Formula, before he disappeared he injected one man with the formula, you. You see your blood holds the key to our success.” Fury strained against the straps holding him in place as a HYDRA agent plunged a needle into his arm, and began drawing blood until two pints had been filled. “That should do for now, guards take him to his friends.” Strucker said as he walked over to a bank of machinery, Fury was unhooked from the table and drug from the room to a dungeon like room. There he saw a large cell with his team in it; the guards opened the cell door and threw him in, locking it behind them. Val rushed over to Fury and helped him up “Does anyone know where we are?” Fury asked. Gabe nodded “I was conscious when we arrived. We’re in an old castle about three hundred miles from the Red Skulls bunker.”
Fury shook his head to clear it of the sedatives “Why are we still here, why are we still breathing?” Val walked over to him and put her hand on his shoulder “Your girlfriend said that they need you because your body manufactures the Infinity Formula, so they need you until they can reverse engineer it. We are here as test subjects for their experiments, and they plan on extracting information from us later.” Fury shook his head and stood up looking about the room, their cell was primitive but effective, and it was controlled by a switch on a control console across the room. Fury turned towards his team “Alright I assume you have done recon, what do we got?” Dugan stood up and walked to the bars “The bars are steel, they are solid, and if you apply enough pressure to them they pick up an electric current, knocked me and Gabe across the room. Val sat down on one of the cells stone benches “We have three stone benches that are attached to the ground, we can’t move them. We also have the occasional rat.” She finished with a shudder as Gabe pointed threw the door and said “They bring meals in twice a day through there, it’s not good food, but it’s not poisoned, but it may be after they interrogate us.” Fury nodded as he heard a door open and Strucker and Viper walked in, Viper pointed to Val and said “Lets start with that one.” Two guards walked up to the cell and opened it, Dugan rushed them, but was hit by a taser, and collapsed to the floor the other guard grabbed the struggling Val and drug her out the door, the other guard locked the cell door. Viper blew Fury a kiss as she followed the guards out of the room. Strucker hit a button and a monitor came online on the wall across from the cell, it showed a chair with metal straps and various crude and sinister looking appliances by the chair.
The screen showed Viper ordering the guards to place Val in the chair and strap her in. She motioned for the guards to leave as Strucker appeared from off screen “Fraulein, you can save us much trouble now by telling us what we wish to know.” Val answered by spitting at the elderly German man “I am the Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine! I do not answer to swine like you!” Strucker shrugged and nodded at Viper, who placed a pair of metal discs on Val’s temples, she then hit a switch, which caused the Italian agents eyes to flutter and he body to spasm violently. “VAL!!!” Fury cried at the screen as he saw Val being tortured. Strucker switched off the machine and stood over Val “Are there any others following you, who knows you are here?” Val did not answer so Strucker pulled out another object that was smoking and attached it to her fingers, Val screamed in pain as her fingers smoked from the device. She swore at him in Italian Strucker looked at Viper and shook his head as he removed the device from her fingers “Now Fraulein, is that any way to repay our gracious hospitality? And I had always heard that Italians were known for their grateful gestures.” Val gritted her teeth “I have a gesture, but I can’t move my fingers.” Strucker chuckled as he pulled out a pair of tong like devices with a power cable running from it, the tips of it sparked as he brought it to her, he jammed the device into her stomach, causing her whole body to lurch in agony straining the strong straps holding her les and wrists “EEYEEEYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” She screamed as hard as she could, as if it could alleviate the pain she felt coursing through her body. Strucker removed the device from her stomach as she collapsed back into the chair gasping for air. Viper leaned in closer to her “How many people are in your organization?” Val just glared at her through swollen eyes “Viper, go to HeEEELLLL!” she screamed as Viper hit a switch causing the whole chair to shine with electricity, Val spasmed violently on the table as the lights in the room began to dim, Strucker looked at Viper with a raised eyebrow and deactivated the chair. Val lay there gasping for air as smoke and steam rose from her and the chair.
Fury looked on with remorse as he saw Val endure yet another form of torture at the sadistic hands of the Viper and Baron Strucker, he had to think fast, before he could say anything he heard a voice over the screen, it was the voice of Zola “Baron, I have successfully reversed the formula from Fury’s blood, but we need a test subject, and if it works I will need more blood from Fury.” Strucker looked at something off-screen and nodded “Use the older one; he appears healthy enough to test it on.” After a moment the door outside the cell opened and three guards with guns drawn escorted Dugan out of the room, leaving Gabe and Fury alone, they looked up to see that the screen showing the torture had gone blank. The door opened and the first two guards drug an unconscious Val into the room and threw her in the cell. Fury and Gabe rushed over to her, Gabe gave her a quick examination, which was easy since her uniform had been torn in several places “No broken bones, a few minor burns on her back and stomach, and her hands of course.” After a few minutes Gabe was able to revive the unconscious woman who reached out to Nick when she came to, he held her tightly in his arms “Val, I swear to God, I will get us out of this.”
A few hours later an unconscious Dugan was dropped into their cell, the experiment needed two more test subjects, so both Val and Gabe were drug away so the serum could be tested, both were returned unconscious. They were left alone for a few days so Dugan, Val and Gabe could be monitored to see if the serum had any unwanted side effects, after five days Fury finally saw their way out. One of the many rats that came into their area was on the control panel near the switch which controlled their cell door. Fury knew what it was that he had to do, which was fortunate as an hour later the guards came to collect Fury for another extraction. They led him silently into the lab he remembered from before and strapped him to the same table. Strucker smiled as he himself stuck the needle into Fury’s arm “This is an important day Colonel, thanks to you today marks the birth of a new world, an Aryan world led by an army of master men. This will be the missing ingredient that will make him unstoppable; we are looking into the dawn of the golden age. We are in the twilight of mere mortal men such as ourselves Colonel, more and more I hear reports of these supermen, these heroes. The age of man is coming to a close Colonel; the age of gods is dawning. Colonel, in this moment of greatness, I feel the need to expunge myself of past deeds. I’m sure you heard of the Death’s Head virus, it was the bait I used to draw you here, well it was used once late in 1947. I had acquired the virus and was planning on destroying Paris with it, but I was stopped by a team of American OSS agents led by one man, a Colonel, such as yourself. Colonel Nicholas Jackson Fury, father of Colonel Nicholas Joseph Fury, you.”
Fury glared at the Nazi as blood was drawn from his arm “That’s a lie, my father died when his ship hit an old mine!” Strucker smiled an sickening smile “No Colonel, your father infiltrated this very castle and he and I fought in this very room over a tank of toxic chemicals, he and I fell into the vat, as he did he activated and explosive destroying the virus and killing all in the castle, save for myself. I was fortunate for I had Zola inject me with an experimental cure for the virus, that saved my life, your father however died a slow and painful death. But you won’t share his fate, you are far too valuable a test subject to waste, we can harness the Infinity Formula from you, but we can’t manufacture it. Soon all of HYDRA will be empowered with the Infinity Formula, Viper and myself have already been injected with the serum, but since ours, and your friends were created from your samples, our bodies won’t manufacture the compound, as yours does.” Strucker removed the blood pack and inserted it into a machine “Dr. Zola begin work on the compound, I want it ready for use on the Ubermesch by nightfall.” Strucker had fury taken to his cell, as he prepared to create the master man.
Fury told his companions what had happened in hushed tones “We have to move tonight, we can’t let Strucker get that monster out of here, he can create an army of these Captain America knock-offs.” The others agreed, Fury reached out and grabbed some of the yellow processed mush that HYDRA had been feeding them, he saw the rat on the console again, he threw a wad of the food onto the console, and it landed near the rat. The rat sniffed it cautiously and began to eat it; Fury threw another handful, which landed on the button that controlled the locks. It took a few minutes, but eventually the rat stepped down on the button, unlocking the cell door. Fury cautiously opened the door and stepped out into the room, he motioned for the others to follow him. He quietly opened the door to the outer hall to see the backs of their guards; he motioned for Val to take out the guards. She quickly jammed the sides of her hands into the back of each man’s neck, causing them to fall to the floor, they drug the unconscious men into the room and stripped them of their weapons, each ma had a modified German Luger, Fury and Dugan took one, while Val grabbed a taser from one of the men, Gabe grabbed a nightstick from the other. Fury led his team out into the hall, they cautiously made their way down the hall, Fury stopped them by a room, he opened it, to see that it was an armory, and in a corner on the far side of the room, was their gear, Dugan walked up beside him “Talk about your design flaws.” He said with a smile as he grabbed his own guns and pulled ammo from a rack and began loading up as the others followed suit.
Fury stood tall as he jammed his last pistol into its shoulder holster, and grabbed a rifle to a rack; all of his team grabbed weapons and followed him to the door, when he opened it he saw nearly two dozen armed guards holding their guns in his direction. Fury slammed the door as HYDRA opened fired, reducing the door to splinters, Fury motioned for his team to stay down for a moment, he and them stood and then rushed to the door. They burst into the hall guns blazing as they faced a maelstrom of bullets, Fury emptied his rifle into the enemy crowd, he dropped it and fell back as he pulled out his pistols and opened fire “It’s winner take all, NO HOLDING BACK TEAM!” He said as he dropped enemy agents with his pistols as he worked his way down the hall towards the lab, followed by Val, Gabe and Dugan meanwhile were going the other way to look for a way out of the castle. They maneuvered around the enemy agents and caught their foes in a deadly crossfire. When the smoke cleared it revealed a hall of dead HYDRA agents and Fury’s team relatively unscathed, Fury nodded at Gabe and Dugan who went the opposite way, while Fury and Val made their way to the lab.
Fury and Val broke through the doors into the lab guns at the ready, expecting a room full of enemies, all they got was Strucker and Viper. Strucker nodded towards Viper who smiled as she pulled out a pair of swords from her back and walked off to the side eyeing Val. Val looked at Fury who nodded “Be careful.” Val held her gun at the ready and went to face Viper, leaving Fury eyeing the older man “It’s over Strucker; you’ve got to pay for the evils you’ve committed.” Strucker laughed an unsettling laugh “No Colonel, I believe there is someone else that may have a different opinion. May I present to you Wilhelm Lohmer the Ubermesch?” Strucker said as a large intimidating man stepped out from behind a bank of equipment. The man has tall, had blonde hair, and appeared to be extremely strong. He wore green body armor with the swastika on the chest
he had a large sword a pistol and assault rifle “Mother [frick]er.” Fury muttered as he opened fire at the man and ducked behind a back of machinery.
Val followed Viper onto a catwalk overlooking the main lab; Val held her rifle at the ready as she slowly moved among machinery a trying to find her foe. As she approached a tall piece of machinery a blade slashed out from nowhere, slicing her rifle in half! Val jumped back as Viper dropped down from top of the machinery and began slashing out at Val with her swords. Val could hear gunshots and crashing below her but was unable to look as Viper pressed the offensive. Val ducked as a blade slashed through a pipe near her head; she jumped back as Viper slashed towards her stomach laughing “I have been looking forward to this since we met Fraulein!” She laughed as she slashed out at Val, her sword tearing a gash in her body armor just above her breasts, Val dropped to her hands and kicked out at one of Viper’s arms, she knocked a blade from her grasp and leapt up to catch it as it fell. The two women crossed blades as each tried to overpower the other.
Fury ducked behind a control panel as bullets riddled the spot that he had been standing, he crawled over behind a computer terminal and tried to catch his breath, when the computer terminal behind him lit up and he heard Zola’s voice “Over here! He’s over here!” Fury turned and shot the screen as he ran. He ran out into the open room and dove for more cover firing at the large German as he did. The German’s reflexes were far faster than the average man and he was able to roll out of Fury’s fire, but one of Fury’s shots hit the action of Lohmer’s rifle, disabling it. Lohmer threw the rifle in anger, it hit a console causing it to shower in sparks, he pulled out his large sword and approached the bank of machinery that Fury hid behind, he raised the blade and slashed down, slicing the thick machine in half Fury looked at the large German in wide eyed disbelief. Fury raised his pistols and shot into the large man’s chest as he ran, many of the rounds went wide, but the ones that struck the large man’s chest did little to slow him down, as he swung the heavy blade in Fury’s direction. Fury jumped up and grabbed a power cable. He pulled himself up and jerked on the cable, he held onto the cable and used it to swing down striking the large man in the chest with both feet, sending him sliding across the room. Fury rolled to the side as the power cable sparked beside him.
Val slashed out at Viper as the HYDRA agent leapt on top of a computer console; each combatant’s cloths were in tatters from sword gashes. Val’s outfit was torn open from her neck to the top of her left breast, and her lefts sleeve had been torn completely off. Viper’s outfit was in just as bad of shape, her cloak was on shreds, and the navel of her body armor had been torn away revealing her bare midriff, most of the top half of her armor had been torn asunder, revealing her skintight body sleeve underneath it.
Both of them had countless scratches, gashes, tears, and wounds on their bodies, but each was as fiercely determined as the other to win the fight. Viper stood on top of the equipment bank next to a large stained glass window, chest heaving as she tried to catch her breath, Val held the back of her arm where she had a large gash, until she swung out at Viper with her blade, Viper jumped into the air as the lade embedded itself into the machinery, she came down and landed nimbly on the blade. She smiled as she raised her blade over Val’s head, ready to deliver the killing blow, Val looked up and fell back as the blade stabbed down towards her, as Viper stabbed down she threw herself off balance. Val seeing this as her opportunity reached up with both feet and caught Viper in the chest and slung her through the air and the large window, even as Viper’s blade stabbed into her own shoulder. Viper screamed as she crashed through the window, Val pulled the blade from her shoulder and limped to the window and looked out. All she saw below her was a cliff and blackness, she heard a crash from the lab below her and she knew she had to help Nick; she grabbed the swords and drug herself towards the battle below her.
Nick Fury was backed into a corner by the large German super soldier, he had run out of ammo and now had no defense, and he searched frantically for a weapon. He saw the large man prepare to deal the killing blow when he heard his name “NICK!” he saw Val on the catwalk above him and saw her drop something. Everything seemed to go into slow motion as Fury saw the sword fall through the air towards him, he saw the Ubermesch swing the large sword down towards his head, he saw the sword fall through the air, and he saw himself reaching for the blade. He saw Lohmer, he caught the blade and the next thing he knew he saw the blade, sticking out the back of the large German, buried in his chest to the hilt, The German’s blade lay embedded in Fury’s thigh. Lohmer staggered back a few feet and fell onto the electric cable; the blade picked up the electric current and electrocuted the German, his body thrashed about as the lights dimmed in the room.
Fury pulled the large blade out of his leg and staggered to his feet as he saw Val limp to him “Val, after this we are taking a vacation.” He gasped as he embraced the Italian woman “Where?” She groaned as he held her in his arms and they made their way through the remains of the lab “Anywhere warm, where there are no German’s, guns, super soldiers, computers or creepy old Nazi’s.”Val laughed “Or swords, or swords.” She winced as she held her arm to one of her many sword gashes. Fury approached one of the computer terminals “Alright Zola, I know you’re here. Where has the Baron gone?” Zola’s partial image appeared on a racked computer screen, his voice crackled disparately over the speakers “I’m afr—the Baronmnm iszzz gone. He as activatedavated the castles self destru---. I would offer my condonldlniaces but I myself will survive and you won’t. Goodbye Colonel.”Zola said as the screen went blank. Fury looked at Val and they made their way towards the exit, suddenly a large metal panel slid over all of the doors and lower windows, all but the one that Viper was thrown from. Fury and Val made their way towards the stairs, as they did Fury pulled a long chain from one of the broken pieces of machinery. They both hobbled to the window, Fury wrapped the chain around a support beam and grabbed Val in one arm and the chain in the other, and he held his breath and leaped from the window.
Just as Fury and Val cleared the window, the entire lab was engulfed in flames, fire shot out of the window as Val and Fury fell through the air. The chain jerked as they fell, halting their fall, Fury lost his grip on it and they fell twenty feet through the air and landed on a steep snow covered bank. They slid down the bank towards the cliff, Val still held one of the swords from earlier and jammed it down into the snow, they slid until it snagged on something, halting their fall. Val smiled down at Fury as he held onto her “Remember you said women couldn’t keep up with men?” she laughed breathlessly. Fury smiled at her, until he heard the sounds of helicopter blades. Fury grimaced and looked over the edge of the cliff as a helicopter rose above the cliff, a helicopter with the HYDRA emblem emblazoned on it. The chopper opened its door to reveal Gabe standing there.
One year later: Grooms Lake Air Force Base(Area 51):
Nick Fury stood in the sun outside of an immeasurably large aircraft hanger, the door to the hanger opened and three men in uniform stepped out. One man was the Secretary of Defense, another was the Secretary of the Navy, and the last was a man in a suit with a name tag that read Henry Peter Gyrich. The Secretary of Defense reached out and shook Fury’s hand “It is good to see you Nick; again I can’t express how happy we are with the results of your mission in Germany.” Fury smiled nodded “Yes, now we know that HYDRA is real, and they have access to numerous Nazi weapons.” The Secretary nodded “But that isn’t all Colonel. We have had our eyes on you for a long time Nick, a long time. Your battle with HYDRA’s master man was your first step into a larger world. Perhaps mister Gyrich can explain it better.” Gyrich shook Fury’s hand “Hello Colonel, I am Henry Gyrich, I am affiliated with an organization, whose name I am not at liberty to disclose. I have spent a considerable amount of time lobbying our government, and various foreign governments, to create an international organization to monitor terrorist’s activities. Both human and superhuman. What you faced in that lab in Germany was only a small sample of what there is out there. There are some being in this world that can manipulate the weather, in China there is a man that’s body generates nuclear energy. Our government has decided to create one of the largest global espionage organizations to deal with this threat. It will be above the government, and have access to vast amount of funding and technology you can’t even begin to imagine.” Fury nodded thoughtfully and lit a cigar “What does this have to do with me, and why is the Secretary of the Navy here at a secret air base in the middle of the desert?” Gyrich smiled “Because we need someone to lead this organization. And we feel you are uniquely qualified to lead, if you are interested.” Fury smiled “Of course I am, but that still doesn’t answer my question, why is he here and for that matter why we met here.” The Secretary of Defense smiled as the ground began to tremble, the roof of the mammoth hanger opened up and an object began to rise from it. Nick Fury’s jaw dropped and his cigar fell out as he watched a massive object that resembled an aircraft carrier rise into the air.
Fury looked at the men “What did you say this organization was called?” The Secretary of Defense smiled and said “It is the Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division.” Fury raised his brow “Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.E.I.L.D.? I like the sound of that.”
Now: Somewhere Over the Atlantic:
[“I spent several years combating superhumans, inlisting the aid of heroes, destroying terrorists cells, all as the Director of SHIELD. While S.H.I.E.L.D. was supposedly a branch of the US government, we were actually involved with all member nations of the UN, we accepted agents from nations around the world. I had free reign over S.H.I.E.L.D. and I needed people I could trust, so I appointed Gabe, Dum Dum and Val as my lieutenants. Val had just uncovered information of a HYDRA cell on an island in Greece, apparently an old friend of ours was seen down there, she seemed just as venomous as ever. Viper had murdered two of our agents before they even saw her, so now I have brought the Helicarrier to Greece.”]
“Transmission ended.” The computerized voice in the dark voice said as it darkened the screen, a figure stood at the panel watching, his face is revealed to be Tony Stark in his Ironman costume with the helmet up, he turned and walked out of the room.
Post Credits.
Fury stood on the bridge of the Helicarrier overlooking the clouds below him, one of the techs at the gunnery station told him they were in position, he gave them the order to take aim, another tech told him that they had an incoming transmission she played it on the main screen and the Viper was shown, she had not aged a day “Hello General, the Baron sends his regards. I see you have discovered my summer home, I just wanted to let you know that your efforts to destroy me will be in vain.” Fury’s face was stone cold as he answered her “Still I would feel better if I just double checked. Fire.” Heordered, the Helicarrier shook as three Stark Industries Jericho missiles shot past the viewport, towards the ground below. Fury watched the missiles disappear beneath the cloud cover, and watched a monitor that showed the missiles hit the HYDRA base, obliterating it, Fury looked up to see a cold faced Viper “SO you destroyed one base. We are HYDRA! Cut one head off and three more will replace it. HAIL HYDRA!” she cried as she cut the transmission.
Fury smiled to himself and turned to see Dugan and a sharp faced General behind him
“Dugan did our contact come through?” Dugan nodded “Yeah, old goldilocks cooperated, we can reach the Arctic in a few hours.” Fury nodded and turned towards the helmsman “Helm set a course for the Arctic at the coordinates Dugan gives you.” Dugan walked over to the helmsman, while Fury turned to face the General “General Ross, nice to see you. How goes your search for the Jolly Green Giant?” Ross nodded and pointed to a map screen showing a small cabin that appeared behind Fury “We have a positive ID on Banner, we have a team in position, all we need is your special operative.” Fury turned and hit an intercom switch “Tony you’re on.”
Outside the Helicarrier a hatch opens up and an object shoots off like a rocket, it is revealed to be none other than Ironman!
To be continued in the Avengers…
Well there you have it, my Nick Fury story. As you can tell I am writing an Avengers story and will post it soon. I hope you like it, let me know what you think.
Here is my casting, hope you like the choices.
Nick Fury- Samuel L. Jackson
Baron Wolfgang von Strucker-Malcolm McDowell
When I think of dark, sinister evil people, the first thing that comes to my mind is Malcolm McDowell’s Alex from Clockwork Orange. He has been in a wide range of movies and would be great for the role.
Viper-Carla Guigo
She is talented, can fight and is hot as Hell! She is the only person that comes to mind for this role!
Dum Dum Dugan-Sam Elliot
No he is not too old for the part he is only a few years older than Sam Jackson. And with all due respect to Sam Jackson, I’m pretty sure Sam Elliot could whup his ass, hell he could probably whup my ass and I’m a pretty big guy.
Val-Monica Bellucci
She is an amazingly talented actress, whom I’ve wanted to see in a comic book movie, and I feel she would be great for the role.
Gabriel Jones-Laurence Fishburne
He is one of my all time favorite actors, I have liked everything he has done from Apocalypse Now, to Othello and Matrix. He would be a perfect Gabe.
Arnim Zola- Christopher Walken
I’ve wanted to cast him in something for a long time, but I could never find the right character, but I think he is great for Zola, because I could actually see Walken doing this in real life.
Master Man(Ubermensch)- Channing Tatum
No dialogue, nuff said.
HAWK out.
