Speaking with MTV Splashpage, Tom Hiddleston who played Loki in Thor and will play him again in next years The Avengers has weighed in to share his thoughts on Thor 2 director Patty Jenkins.

"She's amazing," Hiddleston told MTV News recently. "I actually had dinner with her earlier this week and she's sensational, a really amazing woman and quite clearly an amazing director."

"'Monster' is one of my favorite films. Weirdly enough, you won't believe me, but this is God's honest truth, before I started shooting 'Thor,' Ken Branagh gave me two films to watch. He said, 'Listen, this is sort of not related, but I want a quality of vulnerability from your performance, which is similar to these two things.' One of them was Peter O'Toole's performance in 'The Lion In Winter' and the second was Charlize Theron's performance in 'Monster.'"

Hiddleson explained that Branagh wanted Loki to have a rawness similar to Theron's portrayal of Aileen Wuornos.

"I told Patty that and she said, 'That's amazing.' It's almost like things come full circle," Hiddleston said. "She clearly has an incredible grasp of story and character and a very powerful emotional engine behind her, which I think is what we need."

"What happens in 'Thor 2' has to evolve after what's happened in 'The Avengers,' so I'd say he takes a pretty good hiding from Odin when he gets back home, but I honestly don't know at this point," he said. "The thing about Patty is she has an innate courage and complete understanding of the muscularity of a character like Thor, but also a sensitivity and a nobility and things like 'Monster' and 'The Killing' which she directed, don't shy away from darkness, they don't shy away from murkier aspects of human nature and I think her fearlessness about all that will make 'Thor 2' quite interesting."

Is it just me, or is Tom Hiddleston/Loki becoming more popular and more focused-upon than Chris Hemsworth/Thor? I'm not complaining, Tom's done a fantastic job so far. It's just that sometimes I forget Thor 2 has to actually be about Thor, and not Loki.

@Raptor - Yea I was starting to think that too - but I think it might be because Tom is more open to the press than Chris.

@Raptor took the words out of my mouth, I haven't heard a WORD from Hemsworth dealing with the Avengers or Thor II. I really wish to hear from him soon. Beacause um....when I see Thor II i want to see um....Thor lol

Tom was excellent dont get me wrong. But I dont think it overshadowed Chris Hemsowrth perfomance Either. He OWNED Thor.

I think I know whay would make LordBaphomet
excited to see other marvel films. it's the
one thing the marvel films lack i must admit.
AN INCREDIBLE LONG AND DRAWN OUT CAR CHASE

now you throw THAT in Avengers and it would
make all the difference.

@Intruder - yeah, he usually ends up a hero in his own mind. Sometimes others kind of agree.

I like this idea so much though that I'm making it an official prediction, though. If Thanos is involved, Loki is instrumental in helping the heroes defeat him in the end.

@SirPrize - I loved Punisher war zone. Except the fact that microchip dies.

About Patty, maybe Branagh indicated Marvel that she could be a good choice, if what Hiddlestom said about the "Monster" reference is true.

same vilian AGAIN? wtf?
Dumegg
Dumegg - 10/20/2011, 11:38 AM
how could marvel NOT put Loki in other
Marvel films. the actor and the character
were awesome and Loki one of Marvels most
powerful villians. why would they kill him
off?
Dumegg
Dumegg - 10/20/2011, 11:43 AM
...and Loki is an antagonist. he could trick
Thor into freeing Fafnir or unleash the
absorbing man on Thor. he doesn't have to be
the main villian, just the guy inciting the
chaos that Thor must now deal with.
Loki pulls that shit all the time, just read
the books.

I hope she actually makes Thor look like a warrior and not wearing the plastic dashboard of a Jeep Patriot as his "armor" in Thor 2...

@SirPrize - Are you serious about women not being able to grasp action, violence and sex in movies? If you are serious I guess you forgot about Kathryn Bigelow winning an Oscar for the Hurt Locker?

For all the people who say that they don't want Thor 2 to be about Loki, I agree, but there's no law that says that Marvel can't give Loki his own movie. Hiddleston supposedly signed the same multi picture contract that everyone else did and he certainly seems to be popular enough to carry his own movie judging by the Q & A at NY Comic Con.

And to the small minded ignoramuses who think that a woman can't direct a CBM, I would remind you that "Catwoman", "Elektra" and "Green Lantern" were all directed by men.

Yet another great interview from an absolutely sensational actor. Hiddleston tore it up in "Thor", and I can't wait to see what he has in store for us in "The Avengers". However, it will be particularly interesting for me to see how the film can bring Thor and Loki back to basically working by themselves after the (hopefully) epic team-ups that will be in "The Avengers".
Supes17
Supes17 - 10/20/2011, 12:51 PM
new villain please. Loki should have his glory in The Avengers and then get his ass kicked at the end and have Thor move on. This isn't a tv show, most CBM villains don't make it past the first film they're in.

If Loki is present again, they should have him as a secondary villain only
Dumegg
Dumegg - 10/20/2011, 1:00 PM
@supes17- I'm sure Loki WILL be a secondary
villian. he'll probably play the role of
antagonist. He'll probably release Mangog
on Asgard or trick thor into releasing
Fafnir or any of the other Thor villians.
then he'll sit back with with a little
vino and enjoy the chaos.

Let's see.... The other big guns are off in other universes (doom, magneto, even the red skull sort to speak) so in a sense, They have to use Loki more than some might like.

And it is true.. It is far more rare to have a villain last more than one film and ever get the full development a hero does... in most movies, a villain like loki would've had his arc start and end, all condensed in one movie.... This is refreshing for once...

Personally, he's already become one of my fav villains and Hiddleston is a major reason why..

Fortunately they still have other big guys to bring too... Bring on thanos and ultron!!!

Isn't it crazy how the villains in cbm are always more open to interviews then the heroes, or is it just me.
