Ever since the announcement of this new film in the Yu-Gi-Oh franchise fans have been clamoring for info on the film. Today at San Diego Comic Con a panel to promote the new film was helmed by the creator of the franchise Kazuki Takahashi. The very first thing revealed at this panel was the biggest things fan wanted to know. The title of the film. Previously rumored to be titled Yu-Gi-Oh King the film will officially be titled Yu-Gi-Oh! The Darkside Of Dimensions.
After revealing the title of the film a trailer was also shown to those in attendance, there was no photography or video recording allowed so we will not see a leaked version of said trailer. However a trailer description has been given.
The Yugioh The Darkside of Dimensions trailer featured some text that declared the return to the Yugioh franchise and that there will be a new threat. The Millennium Puzzle was shown as cuts of the new villain, and a quick shot of Kaiba and Yugi facing each other before some quick cuts of Joey with Tea and Bakura and then a door opening revealing Kaiba waiting for Yugi to get to him. Then a rear shot of Yugi -- or Atem? -- walking to the light.
Sounds exciting. However not only was a trailer shown Mr Takahashi also revealed many key details on the film, including certain characters set to appear, the style of animation being used, its place in the Yu-Gi-Oh Franchise and a general release date.
It takes place six months after the end of the original manga. Because of this, Yugi is drawn a tad older than fans are used to.
Kaiba in the poster is the center of the world and the plot will be a lot about him. He’s the center of the film.
The movie will be a bit darker than fans are used to in Yugioh and the villain will cause a disturbance that will have Kaiba and Yugi in their crosshairs.
Character sketches of Yugi, Kaiba, Joey and Tea were shown with slight redesigns. Yugi is a bit older looking, Joey also looks a little older but Takahashi assures his personality hasn’t changed much.
Kaiba has created a new duel disc -- which you can see in the poster -- and that it’s too complicated to explain how it works, but it’s a new way to duel. There are duel gazer like machines that attach to the duelists’ eyes now.
Tea is older and “sexier.” She has “leveled up.”
Takahashi redesigned some of the classic monsters like the Blue Eyes and Dark Magician and that Blue Eyes will evolve in this film. It’s a brand new Blue Eyes White Dragon.
He also created powerful new monsters for the villain. All of these cards from the film will be turned into cards -- for those wondering if they will be legal.
The release date for Yugioh The Darkside of Dimensions is Spring 2016 in Japan and a late 2016 for everyone else but that will vary by country.
