After all the recent casting news, a new source of excitement has appeared! Rumor has it that David Tennant (former Doctor Who) has joined "The Hobbit" as Sindarin Elf King Thranduil (non-official concept art above).

From MovieWeb: "Thranduil also happens to be Legolas' father, which sheds some light on how Orlando Bloom's character will be reintroduced to the franchise. Tennant also recently confirmed himself for a new take on Much Ado About Nothing, so it is not clear how he plans to fit both films into his upcoming schedule."

"The Hobbit: Part 1" is currently slated to hit theaters 19th December 2012!

It would be nice... but...

It's news from Movieweb, who got it the Examiner, who got it from... you guessed it, IMDB!

Seriously, you CAN'T count on Movieweb as a credible news source.

I mean, for crying out loud, those dumbasses still say that the release date is November 2012, and that Ron Perlman is in the movie...

... when all press releases have said that the date in December 2012, and Ron Perlman has specifically declared that he's not in the movie.

Their article also said that Sylvester McCoy was rumoured but not confirmed. He was confirmed over a [frick]ing month ago. Those guys don't do their research, and just post whatever crap they get sent.

Awesome, so happy to hear that, David Tennant is one of my favourite actors!

The Hobbit is fast becoming a movie starring multiple Doctors: David Tennant AND Sylvester McCoy, whos next? Peter Davison? Christopher Eccleston? Matt Smith even? lol Maybe not Matt, would rather see him do a few more series of Doctor Who before he goes off to Hollywood

You've got some wrong information here. 'Much Ado About Nothing' is not a movie but a play which David will be doing in London's West End (Wyndham Theatre) with Catherine Tate from May 16th to Sept, 3rd. Rehearsals begin in April. (I've got my ticket!) Sooooo, does that give him the necessary time to be in 'The Hobbit'?
