Warner Bros. today confirmed the title and release window for the next Batman videogame developed by Rocksteady Studios. It's called Batman: Arkham City and it's coming next fall to PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC.



Gotham City has now become the new maximum security "home" for all of the city's criminals. Not much else was revealed. Warner Bros. says the game will feature a brand-new story, include a new cast of classic characters and villains, and new enhanced gameplay features.

"Developed by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham City builds upon the intense, atmospheric foundation of Batman: Arkham Asylum, sending players soaring into Arkham City, the new maximum security 'home' for all of Gotham City’s thugs, gangsters and insane criminal masterminds," read a press release.

"Set inside the heavily fortified walls of a sprawling district in the heart of Gotham City, this highly anticipated sequel introduces a brand-new story that draws together a new all-star cast of classic characters and murderous villains from the Batman universe, as well as a vast range of new and enhanced gameplay features to deliver the ultimate experience as the Dark Knight."


Catwoman has been confirmed, and it looks like she might be getting a big role in the story. Check out these new GameInformer covers.






Two other confirmed villains so far are Mr. Freeze, and Talia al Ghul, daughter of Ra's al Ghul.


Mark Hamill confirmed it us in an interview last May he'll be reprising his role as the voice of Joker for the game for the last time ever. "This will be my last, there's no question about that," he said. "But it's the last hurrah."




Batman: Arkham City is dated for a late 2011 release.
