How Vin Diesel Could Be Thanos In Guardians Of The Galaxy

I offer my explaination of why I think the Riddick actor will be playing the Mad Titan in Marvel's cinematic universe.

CBM has been going ablaze with speculation of who Vin Diesel could be cast as in the upcoming slate of Marvel films. Some people say he could be Rocket Raccoon or Groot. The most popular choice is Vision due to his interest in the character. My personal choice is Thanos and here's why...

1. THE VOICE: He has the deep menacing voice that would suit Thanos' personality very well. He is no stranger to voice work, having voiced the towering Iron Giant.

2. THE LOOK: Vin looks the part. With a few prosthetics I don't see the difficulty of turning this man into Thanos. Also, he is quite obviously in extremely good shape and pretty ideal to play someone with tremendous power.

3. ACTING STYLE: People tend to comment on how bad his acting is but I believe that Vin tends to shine in roles that show him to be a cold, stoic badass.

4. TIMING: The most vivid reason for Vin Diesel playing Thanos is that pre-production for Guardians of the Galaxy had begun not too long ago. And that he was approached by Marvel in the midst of it. I'm aware that Thanos is NOT a confirmed villain for Phase II and will be held off as a main villain until Phase III, but that doesn't mean a short cameo is out of the question. He could just be the man behind the scenes until the third Avengers film.

The reveal of Thanos in the end credits of The Avengers was Marvel's way of revealing their end game; that Thanos was and will be the main villain of the forseeable future of the MCU. Would it be so bad for him to be played by someone with name recognition?

No chance. He's not Thanos. Marvel has gotten great actors
To play all their villians. Jeff bridges, Mickey Rourke, Guy Pearce,
Tom Hiddleston, Hugo Weaving and you think for Marvels biggest
baddest villian, their gonna use Vin Deisel? If anything, he is gonna
Be a voice over character. Maybe Groot or Rocket racoon.

Fun fact:

In the silver surfer tv show (I think), Thanos instead of having the cliche menacing deep voice, had a raspy British-esque accent.

Think Ian mckellon accent..but a tad bir deeper.

@Demegg

Which is why I'm still holding out for Benicio DelTorro to be Thanos.

Vin is one of Hollywoods biggest lmao

^ i heard that DelTorro was going to be the Collector, but then again
Maybe thats Marvel screwing with our heads. I still think Jeffrey Wright
Has a Great voice for Thanos. Hell, with a few prosthetics he could
Look like him too. CGI can enlarge him to Thanos- like proportions.

Though I believe he could be playing Thanos, I dont think they'd have him wearing actual prosthetics for the role. Im sure they will still use Diesel for the motion capture and take advantage if his deep voice for the role.

Why not just use the original actor for thanos? If he doesn't have the voice for it just pull a Darth Vader and have someone else be the voice of thanos.

I could see him being Rocket Raccoon or Groot with someone like The Rock or Statham voicing the other character - this could create a fun double act within the GotG.

I could see him being Thanos though - he would be mostly hidden but he has the physical size and voice to pull it off.

I think Thanos will be in GotG to introduce him properly and show his threat. He will then be a background threat through Avengers2 and Phase3, before the big showdown in Avengers3.

I'd like to see Keith David or Leonard Nimoy voice the Mad Titan.

Vin def has the physique for Thanos tho.....I don't think he's being cast as the character tho

I think he would have made a great Drax, but Batista ( UndertakerFTW BTW) has taken that option.

The poster he was standing in front of in the picture he released was an enlarged version of the cover to The Avengers #2. On it, there was Giant Man. There was an arrow pointing to Giant Man with text saying "Meet the new Giant Man!". I think that (unfortunately) he will be playing Giant-Man/Ant-Man.

It makes sense for him to play, Vision but then you have to introduce Ant-Man and Ultron in the same movie with Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver and then add on Wakanda and Black Panther cause where else would Ultron get the vibranium and things would just get messy. So, maybe not Vision. I don't see him as Thanos or Ant-Man/Giant Man.

@ABARy I think standing in front of Avengers #2 just implies that he might show up in the Avengers 2 movie.

Notice the bad guy on the cover. Its a space phantom.
Space phantoms work for a very powerful bad guy.
Immortus a.k.a Kang the Conqueror.
He might be Kang and he will appear in Avengers 2.

Here is your avengers 2 plot.
Kang shows up on Earth present day
To kick some avenger ass and scarlet witch
Saves the day by changing reality.

i agree completely dude, i think hes a way better actor then people give him credit. the last couple fast and furious movies he seems to have broken character a little bit in a couple scenes, but not soo much where its this huge thing. buts the characters he plays he's 1 percent honest with them. more honest than most actors that are in a higher pay grade and class of acting. he's great at riddick, he's great as dom, he was great in the iron giant, he was great as xxx, he was really good in the movie he did based on that mob dude that represented himself in court, the movies themselves may not be that great, but he plays his part just fine to fit the story.

he could totally be thanos. he just has to be a badass viallain that is 1 percent honest in his actions, just believe that whatever youre doing is for the right reason, and thats the type of actor he is...

He could be a good Thanos and I have always wanted to see him in a blockbuster that IS NOT Fast and Furious.

I wouldn't want to see Vin Play Thanos unless they CGC his body. Thanos is at least 2 0r 3 times as bulky as a regular human and is about 7 ft tall. Kind of like Odin in Thor. Odin is actually a much bigger man than Thor and Thor is 6'-6" 600lbs. Hopkins just didn't do it for me as Odin. Vin wouldn't work as Thanos. Thonos is a Titan and is also a genius! Could Vin pull that off? Too bad we couldn't use James Earl Jones voice for Thanos.!!!! another good one would have been the late Micheal Clark Duncan

Thanos needs an actor who can pretty much play the psycho you feel sorry for. He's obsessed with Death in such a way that his every action is to please her. His life revolves around wanting to be dead, pursuing ways of dying, killing millions in the hope death will come to him and grant him freedom from the curse of immortallity. You think Vin Diesel can pull off that level of depth in a character? I sure as hell think its unlikely.
