Filming on 'The Hobbit' delayed as Peter Jackson recovers from surgery.

The director is reportedly recovering in hospital after surgery, delaying filming for 'The Hobbit".

The Hollywood Reporter is claiming that on Wednesday night, director Peter Jackson was admitted into a New Zealand hospital after experiencing acute stomach pains.

A statement was released saying that once he was admitted to the hospital, he underwent surgery for a perforated ulcer. He is said to be currently resting and is expected to make a full recovery.

This comes as one of many recent problems with production on this movie, first with the previous director leaving, and various financial issues to do with the studios backing the film.

Filming for 'The Hobbit' was suppose to start filming sometime this much but Jackson's stay in the hospital isn't expected to delay for very long.

Tolkien died of pneumonia. Don't rely on Wikipedia for information. ;-)

hopefully he's not rushed into going back to the project and they allow him enough time to fully recover and get his head back on straight. he's an amazing director and maybe he just needs a few weeks to chill out!

akthunder@ you obviously aren't a fan of the LOTR trilogy and have no reason to be posting on this article in the first place.

Funny how there's a lack of concern about Jackson's health. Who cares who's directing what, (looking at you @akthunder) the man is recovering from a surgery. Let's hope for speedy and great recovery.

This movie will only be awesome if Gandalf lights the wolves backs on fire and Beorn does epic bear battles.

I hope he recovers quickly and fully. That being said, this would be a better film without him directing it. He's a hack. He's proven that repeatedly.

@VicSage and Ranger14:

tolkien died of old age. he did suffer from stomach ulcers in his old age, but they didn't cause his death.

Yeah, I'd have an ulcer at this point to, considering what production has gone through.

I'll miss Del Toro's presence, but Jacksons not a hack, even if I did disagree with some of his LOTR changes. I mean, a hack? Nah, just watch Dead Alive!

thwip@ He was 81 years old when he passed. If he died of old age, that is a very "young" age to die of old age. Every biography I have read on Tolkien says he died of pneumonia. His wife passed in 1971 and he had a hard time coping with her loss. Perhaps a broken heart led to the decline of his health? ;-)

It is a month to 6 weeks for recovery time for a perforated ulcer, so that will push them back a week to three weeks from the anticipated start time. Not the end of the world. Let's hope he has a healthy and speedy recovery.

SKGannbit@ actually I am, and I have every right to post whatever the hell I like. Peter Jackson had his time, del Toro would have done a much better movie. Peter Jackson sued New Line over so called losses of money, he is a greedy bastard and I can have any opinion on him I like. Sorry I dont suck his dick like most people.

I think the larger issue here is that a talented director has some serious health problems. Here's hoping he makes a full recovery and is back behind the camera soon.
